Causability recognizes that creatives are often asked to donate their art or time to nonprofits without payment. This mindset can contribute to an undeserved or ‘starving artist’ stereotype.

We are changing this.

By empowering creatives, nonprofits and communities can benefit much more from collaborating together on a project rather than just creatives one-time ‘gifting’ their art away.

Therefore, we’re offering three $5K grants to empower and encourage cause collaboration:

Each grant is $5000.00 providing creatives the ability to collaboratively develop an creative related event, program or fundraiser with a local nonprofit.

We invite you to submit your work to the 22nd DongGang International Photo Festival, to be held this year from July 12th to September 29th, 2024 in Yeongwol, Gangwon State, Korea.

Silently Loud

From nature's perspective, humanity itself is a form of hell. That is because of the tendency of humans to objectify and judge everything according to their own standards, thereby ignoring the natural world's intrinsic order. This one-sided disregard for the non-human elements around us is another form of disconnection and isolation, which can be seen as a definition of hell. Despite this, nature maintains a remarkable selflessness. It is driven solely by the instinct for survival, unmoved by human perspectives. To humans, nature’s struggle for survival seems unforgiving akin to the concept of hell. What if we shifted our perspective to see nature from its own vantage point and cultivated an attitude in harmony with it? Then, we would realize that nature has never been hellish, not for an instant.

Humans at times fail to acknowledge the presence of nature. We are inherently part of nature, yet often, we elevate ourselves to the status of the main characters, forgetting our intrinsic connection to the natural world. From birth, nature serves as a backdrop, an external influence shaping our lives. Yet, this omnipresent environment leads us to prioritize ourselves, neglecting nature in the process.

This competition aims to take a closer look at the existential boundaries and lives of humans from an ecosystem perspective, focusing on highlighting our interconnectedness. It is our hope that the beautiful relationship between humans and nature, expressed through photography, will come to fruition and be manifested on a greater scale.

Individuals and collectives are welcome to apply;
individuals should submit between 8 - 12 photographs from a particular series or body of work.

Selected 15 - 20 artists including ‘Artist of the year’ (individual artist or 1 team of winner) will benefit from:
A-year-long exhibition that exposures at the DIPF Festival - inclusion in art magazine, any related press (long term festival representation and promotion on official website, publications, catalog that being seen by a substantial number of visual arts professionals and the media) where the works viewed by an international panel of influential experts in the field of photography

* 'Artist of the year' - solo exhibition at DIPF (production - printing, framing or related presentation material will be provided) and eligible for travel and accommodation to attend the opening.

An art residency provides the technical conditions, time, and space to develop ideas and try new approaches. It is a moment that promotes connection between artists from different backgrounds and consequently the exchange of knowledge and experiences.

Aviário Studio Multidisciplinary Residency aims to promote exploration and production in the Visual Arts. Artists can develop projects using a medium or a combination of technologies. Aviário Studio is an artist-run space with workshops equipped to develop works on Printmaking, Ceramics, Wood, Metal, Sculpture, Installation, Drawing, Painting, Photography and Bookbinding.

We offer the conditions to test possibilities and materialize ideas. On one hand, it can be a moment of transition, more connected to experimentation and research; on the other hand, it can be the point of consolidation of a project translated into the production of a new body of work.

The City of Joliet announces a request for proposals (RFP) for a signature sculpture installation at City Square, which is a new 1.3-acre urban park located within the 100 block of N. Chicago Street, directly across from the Rialto Square Theatre. City Square will be a catalytic transformation of underutilized, publicly owned space into a vibrant gathering place to the heart of downtown Joliet. We are seeking a unique sculpture that will act as a centerpiece to the City’s much anticipated public square. The sculpture should be reflective of Joliet’s culture and diversity

The Eliza Moore Fellowship for Artistic Excellence is awarded annually to one outstanding, early-career artist who is developing new works that address plants, gardens, or landscapes in the broad sense. This award is open to visual artists, literary artists, dancers, and musicians. The award includes a $10,000 individual grant and requires a 2 - 5 week stay at Oak Spring. While at OSGF, the Fellow will be able to meet with staff, explore our 700-acre landscape and our efforts in sustainable land management, and visit our rare book library that holds over 19,000 objects, including many examples of botanical art.

OSGF intends to award the Fellowship to an exceptional artist whose works show remarkable promise to contribute to a deeper understanding of the natural world, and humankind’s place in it. The Fellow will be scheduled to visit when there are other Interdisciplinary Residents or Fellows on-site. This scheduling will allow the Fellow to join in communal meals, and optional activities and field trips with other artists, ecologists, researchers, or scholars working on projects related to OSGF’s mission. Beyond time devoted to their projects, a Fellow’s typical day at Oak Spring might include a walk to enjoy the landscape or birds; an appointment to visit the Oak Spring Library; and/or a morning spent volunteering at the BCCF or in the formal garden. These optional activities provide Fellows time to learn from, and interact with our staff. None of these activities are required, and we understand that some Fellows might want to spend most of their time in their writing or working independently. We support and enable Fellows to use their time as they best see fit.

Considered a master painter in all leading mediums, award winning artist Johannes has been teaching live online workshops for Artist Network since 2011. The McColl Center's internationally acclaimed Artist-in-Residence program serves as a catalyst for growth for emerging and mid-career artists. McColl Center hosts three residency terms per year—fall, winter/spring, and summer, for four artists per term. An artist residency at McColl Center is a moment to think big, take risks in the creative process, and explore ideas within the context of Charlotte.

Artists-in-residence receive private housing adjacent to McColl Center, a large-scale private studio in our historic building in Uptown Charlotte, curatorial guidance, marketing and PR support, and a generous stipend. While in residency, our artists have the freedom to fully focus on artistic research, exploration, and creation while also engaging with McColl Center’s Igniters community and the local creative sector.

CREEKSIDE ARTS is an Artist-in-Residence Program that is a unique opportunity to reflect, create, and explore in an inspiring setting among the Redwoods of Northern California. We provide an inspiring natural setting among the coastal redwoods of Northern California for individuals as well as collaborative artistic work and expression. We welcome artists from a broad range of creative disciplines. We provide a unique opportunity to reflect, create and explore away from the hectic demands and constraints of daily life.

Our location in the heart of the redwoods and home of the Wiyot people provides a natural setting that guides our commitment to a healthy and sustainable environment. Our program facilitates an exchange of creative thought and expression between participants, the neighborhood, and the larger Northern California community with a focus on new work with a social and political consciousness.

Our one week Fall Writers residency provides each artist with fully equipped private living quarters and individual separate work/studio spaces. In addition to providing a space for solitary work, our program supports and encourages a collaborative atmosphere. Evening gatherings provide an opportunity to get to know the other resident artists as well as the permanent members of the Creekside Arts community.

Films, discussions, and exchanges with local Northern California writers are a part of these gatherings. Our residencies conclude with a creative interaction with the larger Humboldt County community.

This is a juried exhibition for artists working in all styles of artwork, i.e. realism, expressionism, abstract 2D and 3D media, including sculpture. All artwork must be original in concept, design and execution. No size limitations.

Photography, digital art, computer art, reproductions (such as giclee, prints) are not acceptable unless part of a mixed media artwork or collage. Film, video, AI generated art, installation art or performance art are not accepted. No crafts (such as jewelry, beads) or kit work. No artwork previously exhibited in a judged show at the NAL will be accepted.

Course Description
In this week-long workshop students will aim to complete two drawings using the materials of
red, black and white pencils, graphite and charcoal. Dividing time between block in and
modeling stages students will hone their skills of accurate observation and conceptual
knowledge to convey both a physical presence and character of the model. A skull and ecorche
casts will be used to bolster the discussion of the architecture of the portrait and the
fundamentals of representation – character of the model, anatomy & structural conventions, and
form rendering.

With the aid of master drawings we will investigate the historical use of dry media, from the Renaissance to the 19th Beaux Arts, and discuss the use of material to evoke the hue variety and textures of life.

Chelsea will illustrate each stage of the drawing process with a demonstration, one to be completed in three colors and one in charcoal and graphite. Alongside demos students will receive one on one critiques helping them towards their independent goals.

About the Franklin Sculpture Park | Described by Boston Magazine's Nathan Tavare's in 2020 article, "The town of Franklin manages this petite park, spreading out over just about an acre at the past site of the now filled-in old town pool, where you can now float around the 13 sculptures. Opened in 2014, the park’s gentle walkway curves around a pond, showcasing view of local wildlife and artwork, like the painted PVC pipes of “The Trees of Life” that rise from the water, and Buddy Olson’s giant welded steel bear named “Ursus.”

We now invite the next generation of artists to exhibit their work in our public park.

The Museum of Northern California Art is seeking original artworks from artists with a playful spirit using any media, except AI. The exhibit will be held at the Museum of Northern California Art (monca), 900 Esplanade in Chico.

Artists must reside in Northern California, defined as San Jose and all points north, east, and west to the state border.

Application Requirements
$15 for 1 entry, $10 for each additional entry. Maximum of 10 entries. All fees are non-refundable.

Accepted work must be delivered ready to hang or display. Work to hang on the wall must be fitted with framing wire. All work must be dry and clean. No sawtooth hangers. 3D work must fit on a pedestal (which monca can provide) or artist may provide other means of display. Artist’s name, phone, and title of work MUST be on the back of each artwork.

In an inspirational setting removed from the distractions of daily life, CIAR’s Fall Residency Program offers visual artists focused time and a uniquely supportive environment to develop their work. On a small island off the coast of Massachusetts, CIAR hosts a group of twelve artists, who are invited to use the island itself as their studio. Living together in the historic Avalon Inn, the residents have uninterrupted time to become immersed in their creative process. Many use the time to reflect, learn from one another, and find inspiration from their costal surroundings. Residents build insight and camaraderie as they sit down to meals together, cooked by CIAR's wonderful chef.

In 2024, Duke Riley will deliver the Visiting Artist talk and Dr. Katie Castagno will join as our first Visiting Scientist, to create interdisciplinary dialogue and to explore Cuttyhunk through an ecological and climate-based lens.

Course Description
This workshop will focus on Portrait Painting Fundamentals. The instructor will demonstrate on day one how to Block-in directly on the canvas with the brush. No previous drawing or transfer is necessary. The painting will be developed in 4 Layer: Block-in, Underpainting, Form Pass and Over Passes. Diana will explain each step with demos and lectures, including the structure of the head, comparative measurements, color properties, Light and form. Students begin working on day one in the afternoon session after Diana’s morning demo. A long pose will serve the student to slow down and learn how to work from observation and achieve likeness and naturalism.

A fundamental part of the workshop will focus on understanding our palette and characteristics of color: Hue, Value and Chroma. Diana will lecture and demo at the beginning of the class, followed by individual critiques.

Day 1: Direct Block in with Raw Umber on the canvas. Lecture on the Structure of the Head and Comparative Measurements in the morning. Students work in the afternoon, individual critiques.

Day 2: Diluted and abbreviated Underpainting using Raw umber and White. Demo in the morning. Students continue working on their block-in of necessary or begin the underpainting. Individual critiques.

Day 3: Form Pass with Color. Demo and Lecture on Color and Form in the morning. Students begin working in the afternoon. Individual critiques.

Day 4: Form rendering continues. Diana demoes alongside the students while they work in their paintings. Students work all day. Individual Critiques all day.

Day 5: Final day. Diana will explain how to come back to a painting to do the revision passes, including the Oil out technique, Palette knife scrapping, and sand paper technique. During the revision passes, the Over Passes are made as well, such as Glazings, Stumbling and Impasto. Diana will explain the differences of each one and their applications. Lecture and demo in part of the morning, students begin to work after the demo. Individual critiques.

Diana recommends using the Apelles or Limited palette and work on linen. Please see the the supply list.

This workshop is open to all levels of painting, however, a previous knowledge of drawing is strongly recommended.

Fusion Art invites submissions for the 9th Annual Animal Kingdom art competition for an online exhibition during the month of June 2024.

Course Description
If you’ve ever wondered how you can make fully finished paintings of fleeting subjects (flowers which wilt, food which rots, etc.) then this is the class for you!
In this workshop we will focus on creating a fully resolved still life painting in a direct manner which will allow for improvisation in terms of our composition and also allow us to make fully finished paintings of subjects which may not give us a lot of time to work with them.

We will skip the initial drawing and underpainting which many of us are used to doing, in favor of diving right in and finishing each element as we go. During the course of the week we will discuss how to paint light and form, color mixing, paint handling and many other aspects of painting as well as discussing how to build a composition “on the fly” as we go.

Students will be able to pick their own subject matter for their paintings, and can choose to paint objects which will remain stable for the entire week, or can choose subjects which will change more quickly.

This course is open to all levels and there will be instruction geared towards beginners and advanced students alike.

In this two-day plein-air sculpture workshop, students will learn how to sculpt directly from nature in bas-relief.

In this course, artists will work outdoors to select their subject materials, which may range from individual botanicals such as florals, branches, and leaves, to multi-plant arrangements and landscape composition.

Working beside their selection, students will learn how to sculpt in low-relief by sketching their subject directly onto clay and building outward three-dimensionally in an alla-prima, intuitive style.

Instruction will include how to compose your subject matter within a defined space, organize depths according to an internal establishment of volumes and perspective, and utilize different textures and patterns to convey nature’s diverse forms. Students will learn how to edit nature’s infinite details into its most essential and striking components and capture the transitory nature of live botanicals. Consideration for artistic composition, surface texture and depth will be discussed. Demos on how to block-in a bas-relief, draw directly into clay and develop form will take place. Discussion will include the function of bas-relief as botanical study and as artistic three-dimensional records of the natural world.

Clay and wooden boards will be provided. Students will work outdoors, weather permitting.

Located on an ancient, ever-changing piece of land that inspires awe and artistry, The Farm Margaret River offers immersion in the sublime. It is both a working rural property and a home to artist studios — a place to make, explore, examine and restore.

The Farm sits amid the ancient and diverse flora of Western Australia’s South West region, an ecologically significant place of sacred caves, rugged coastline and monumental karri forests. This is the ancestral Country of the Wardandi people, a cultural group of the Noongar nation who have lived on and from this land, the rivers that run through it and the ocean it meets in harmony for tens of thousands of years.

Here, we seek to engage with and learn from our natural environment through experimental practices, creative inquiry and visual languages. We host artistic collaborations, exhibitions and funded residency programs that invite local and global artists to produce and share new works responding to this unique landscape.

The Farm comprises several studios and a workshop, providing access to both agricultural farming land and natural bushlands. Our farm enjoys rich, mineral-dense soils and is home to diverse flora and fauna. An artesian spring feeds a dam and tributary that flows to the ocean. Waves can be heard crashing along the isolated beaches nearby, and witnessed from walking tracks that wind along coastal cliffs.

Our residency program is an opportunity to experience this place and contribute to our ongoing collective learning. As nature informs our artists, our artists inform us. Together we pursue a deeper understanding of our environment and our role within it.

The discourse on the nature of art in the 21st century has never been more intriguing. While some creators remain firmly rooted in the traditions of their craft, others boldly venture into uncharted territories, invoking a constant debate around the central question - What Is Art? What makes it valuable?

In the modern art world, it's evident that success doesn't adhere to a single style or approach. The diverse paths taken by some of the world's most renowned and affluent artists underscore the idea that every unique style of art can become valuable.

This exhibition is designed not merely to showcase art but to stimulate conversation between divergent paths within contemporary art. The aim is to prove that success in the art world is not a monolithic concept but a spectrum of possibilities, each as valid and valuable as the next.

For the grand opening of this exhibition on June 7th, we are honored to host one of the world's foremost art experts, Tabish Khan. He will share his unique insights and illuminate the nuances of contemporary art at this seminal event.

Tabish Khan stands as a pillar for democratizing art access. As a prominent art critic deeply embedded in London's art scene, he is the visual arts editor for Londonist and a staple contributor to Culture Whisper. Through his weekly top 5 exhibitions for FAD, Khan continually sheds a light on the top exhibitions to see. His dedication transcends just critiques, Khan actively supports institutions like ArtCan, City & Guilds London Art School, and Discerning Eye, championing artists and exhibitions.

CLASS DESCRIPTION

Josie will introduce participants to cyanotype printing (an alternative photographic technique) using her vast collection of dried seaweed specimens as image-making material. Josie will introduce us to her work and how she became so entwined with the fascinating world of seaweed. You will be inspired by algae's diverse biology and ecology, learn to identify a variety of green, red, and brown seaweed, and become more aware of the importance of a healthy intertidal zone and kelp forest—all while creating beautiful blue and white cyanotypes using the power of the sun. Known for its distinctive blueprint-like images, this simple, camera-less photographic technique is the same process used by pioneering, curious, and innovative botanist and photographer Anna Atkins (British, 1799-1871). Want to bring your own specimens to identify and print with? Please do! The end results are joyous and revelatory; while making art, participants have learned about an ocean ecology they haven’t thought much about before.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Josie Iselin is a visual artist, writer and designer, and the author of The Curious World of Seaweed among other books. She is co-director of Above/Below, an ocean literacy campaign that created The Mysterious World of Bull Kelp (bullkelp.info)— a deep dive web story that was released at the end of 2023. Josie has been integrating cyanotype printing with her seaweed scans for many years and constantly gains inspiration from Anna Atkins, who used the nascent photographic process of cyanotypes to document her algal findings in 1840.

Artspace111 and the Love Texas Art Foundation are pleased to announce an open call for submissions from Texas artists for the 11th Annual Texas Juried Exhibition, juried by Maggie Adler, Curator Paintings, Sculpture, and Works on Paper,  Amon Carter Museum of American Art. A to Z Wineworks, located at their REX HILL property in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, seeks an Artist in Residence for a term beginning in Fall 2024 with a harvest experience and ending in Fall 2025 as the 2024 vintage is bottled.

The A to Z Artist in Residence program is an immersion in the seasonal life of a winery, observing and participating in the art of winemaking. The artist follows the natural cycle of a vintage, first working a harvest, then remaining involved in the life of the winery while working on their own individual art as the wine moves from grapes to glass. The Artist in Residence initially works the 2024 vintage harvest as a paid intern alongside our seasonal harvest crew and year-round winemaking and production staff. Following the conclusion of harvest, the Artist in Residence receives support from A to Z and access to staff and properties for a period of artistic reflection and creation followed by a second partial harvest experience. The residency concludes with a public showcase of some of the artist’s work through a gallery showing, lecture, reading or performance.

About the Harvest Internship
At A to Z Wineworks, harvest is intense and filled with opportunity as fruit arrives from around the state - primarily Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, and Chardonnay, plus a cross-section of other varieties. This diversity of fruit comes from our LIVE-certified and Biodynamically farmed estate vineyards as well as from conventionally farmed locations across many different Oregon AVAs (American Viticultural Areas). The vineyard sizes range from several hundred acres to very small sites.

This paid internship position typically runs from mid-August through early November, depending on the season. We value interns who share in our company culture of working hard, working smart, and learning together. Our interns work with a team that has earned the most years of collective winemaking experience in Oregon, as well as experience that stretches from Burgundy to New Zealand. Our winemakers approach winemaking from different perspectives and they are willing to share what they know.

The internship presents a unique opportunity to learn more about winemaking on different production scales and with different stylistic goals. It provides a diverse work experience, including but not limited to, grape receival, sorting, pressing, punch downs, tank dig-outs, racking, transfers, barrel work, inoculations, wine movements, juice, must and wine additions, driving a forklift and, always, cleaning.

Harvest interns work a demanding schedule, which will almost certainly include long hours, overtime, and weekend work. The role requires the ability to stand and move for at least ten hours; to lift, bend, rotate, move, and carry up to 45 pounds over the course of the shift and on a repetitive basis, and to climb stairs, ladders and work on catwalks. We expect people to work well within a team environment and work with individuals in a respectful manner that is consistent with the company’s values.

About the Residency
Following the conclusion of the harvest, the art residency commences extending through fall 2025.
Location: The Artist in Residence will primarily work at the REX HILL property in the Willamette Valley. The artist will have access to the winery, vineyards and staff throughout the course of the residency.

Support: The residency includes a monthly stipend of $800 for the duration of the residency, beginning after completion of the paid harvest internship. Expectations of the Artist: A to Z Wineworks supports people, places, and culture. It seems especially important now to support the liberal arts that help to find ways of expanding limited vision and engaging with diverse, thoughtful perspectives that might help us grow as human beings. The artist will be expected to engage with the staff and contribute to the culture of the winery through interactions and presentations, including providing materials to feature in regular internal communications. The artist will engage with the community at the end of the residency through a public showcase of some of the year’s work in a gallery showing, lecture, reading or performance.

PAPERWORKS 2024 is an international juried competition. This will be a virtual show with a virtual awards reception on Zoom.

The juror is Julián Sánchez González, an art historian and a PhD Candidate in Art History at Columbia University in NYC, and a Research Fellow at the Museum of Modern Art's Cisneros Institute.

The competition is for Artists who use paper as their primary medium, works made on paper, of paper or about paper: cut paper, folded paper, woven paper, glued paper, drawings, paintings, pastels, printmaking, photographs, paper sculpture, 3D, bound books, collage, or as the subject of a video and installation.

All entries to the Paperworks 2024 competition must be the original work of the artist. Artist will be allowed to submit up to 6 images and/or 2 videos.

Deadline for Submission is June 5, 2024.

Entry Fee is $35.00 for up to 6 images and/or 2 videos. Artists will be judged on their body of work.

The b.j. spoke gallery will promote the virtual show and display the finalists work on the gallery website (bjspokegallery.org) and social media platforms. SALES
All sales inquiries will be directed to the artist’s website and/or contact information. For any artwork that is sold, the artists receive 100% of the sale.

GIVING BACK
A portion of the proceeds from the entry fees is donated to organizations committed to the arts and supporting artists.

Cash awards over $600 are subject to federal income tax withholding within the United States. A W-9 form must be filled out by the winner and submitted to Art Fluent, Inc.

projects with beautification and quality of life programs.
The Alliance takes a strategic look at creative placemaking elements that will help the CID
reach their Vision of being a dynamic region that fosters a thriving business, academic, and
residential community. While the CID primarily builds roads, multi-use trails, and sidewalks,

aesthetic fixtures to small parks, the Alliance drives placemaking initiatives that strengthen our

By activating the physical and social environment in Town Center, the Alliance helps attract
businesses and residents, boost economic development, and shape a sense of community.
TCCID has invested over $3M in the Noonday Creek Trail. Final phases of the trail opened in
September 2014, and spans close to seven miles in length, beginning at the Kennesaw
Mountain Battlefield Park to the Bells Ferry Trailhead. Since 2019, trail counters have logged
over 1.1million visitors along the trail. TCCID recognizes that, although successful, the trail’s
potential hasn’t been fully realized. Strategies to activate the trail need to be implemented to
attract and retain users of all ages, demographics, and physical abilities. As the Town Center
CID strives to create a healthy environment for the surrounding commercial property owners
and its stakeholders, activation of the trail will increase safety, improve aesthetics, and
introduce new opportunities within the CID.
The purpose of this RFP is to gather creative, inspirational concepts for activation on Noonday
Creek Trail. Please familiarize yourself with the full Activation Plan completed in 2018 and the
Creative Placemaking Master Plan completed in 2023.

The Studios is a unique residency housed in MASS MoCA - one of the world's largest contemporary art museums. The Studios residency hosts artist and writers within the museum’s factory campus and is surrounded by the beautiful Berkshire Mountains. Operated by MASS MoCA’s Assets for Artists program, the residency runs year-round and hosts up to 10 artists at a time. Artists of any nationality can apply for stays of 2 or 4 weeks.

We offer 24/7 studio space on MASS MoCA's campus, housing across the street (private rooms in shared apartments), one group meal per day, member-access to MASS MoCA's galleries, access to professional development webinars though our "Assets for Artists" program, and opportunities to share your work with an international cohort of peers as well as museum staff and community members.

The residency program has several different fellowship programs including General Fellowships, and fellowships specifically for Massachusetts-based Artists or Writers, Oregon-Based Visual Artists, Puerto Rican Artists, Black or Indigenous Visual Artists or Writers, and more. This workshop is for the painter looking to enhance their skills while depicting coastal scenery, be it the marshes of Southeastern Connecticut, or the crashing surf of Down East Maine. An inspirational and encouraging environment will be fostered through critique and advice. Individual attention and demonstration will be emphasized, as well as the importance of subject choice and personal inspiration. Although oil colors will be the demonstration focus, all media are welcome for working and practice. The prevailing goal will be to approach painting as a fulfilling and enjoyable experience…a learning process that allows us to grow as artists and creators with any subject matter we choose.
