Rauschenberg Dancer Emergency Grants
Grants & Fellowships
- Submission Deadline: May 17, 2024
- Award Info: Up to $3,000
- Eligibility: National
- Categories: Film/Video/New Media, Mixed-Media/Multi-Discipline
- Location: NY, United States
The Rauschenberg Dancer Emergency Grants have been updated, so please read these guidelines fully before deciding whether to apply.
For Essential Expenses: Incurred between September 1, 2023 and August 30, 2024
As of July 2023, the Rauschenberg Dancer Emergency Grants program provides one-time grants of up to $3,000 to eligible dancers facing dire financial emergencies, due to the loss or lack of recent/current live performance work, because of circumstances outside of their control. Common circumstances include cancelled performances, cutbacks or cancellations of dance engagement contracts, loss of touring opportunities, and ongoing shutdowns due to the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact.
“Dire financial emergencies“ include the lack or imminent endangerment of essentials such as housing, medicine/healthcare, utilities, and food. This grant program aims to provide dancers with greater stability to move forward by covering up to three months of essential expenses, recognizing the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the dance sector.
Please note: the need far outpaces available funds; an application is not a guarantee of a grant. In each cycle we will distribute approximately $68,000 in total funding.
ELIGIBILITY
There are three eligibility criteria in this program: Individual, Artistic, and Emergency. You need to meet all three areas, as of the cycle’s deadline, to apply.
1 – Individual Eligibility
Applicants must:
Be 21 years or older
Reside in the United States, the District of Columbia, a Tribal Nation, or a U.S. Territory
Be an artist in need, having an adjusted gross income of $75,000 or lower for an individual, or $150,000 for joint filers, averaged over the last two federal tax returns.
Not be enrolled in any degree-seeking program.
Not have received a Rauschenberg Medical or Dancer Emergency Grant previously.
Demonstrate current and ongoing activity as a professional dancer (defined below).
2 – Artistic Eligibility
Applicants must:
Be a professional dancer. You need to have been working as a paid, live dance performer for at least the last five years (since 2019), in any stage/performance style, including aerial, ballet, hip-hop, jazz, modern, tap and traditional/folk. You may apply if you perform in a variety of settings (for instance: ticketed stage performances, free street festivals, and music videos), as long as you have performed in live, public-facing performances regularly since 2019 (at least one paid engagement annually).
You do not need to be a full-time dancer, or receive your primary income through your dance performance.
Inactivity, or online/streaming activity, during COVID, and during the last six months, is allowable.
Performances in educational/academic settings, social dance, competitive settings, clubs or other commercial settings, exotic dance, commercials, and industrials cannot be considered in this history of performing.
Self-produced online presentation, and/or performances shared solely through personal websites, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook or other online platforms are not eligible.
If you perform your own work live, your resume needs to clearly indicate that you were BOTH the choreographer and dancer.
3 – Emergency Eligibility
Applicants must:
Be experiencing a dire financial emergency that has occurred within approximately the last six months. This is defined as the lack or imminent endangerment of essentials such as housing, medicine/healthcare, utilities, food and/or transportation. Your expenses must be direct, out-of-pocket expenses for you individually.
The dire financial emergency needs to be the result of a loss or lack of current/recent (in the last six months) work as a paid dancer because of circumstances beyond your control. Common circumstances include canceled performances, cutbacks or cancellations of dance engagement contracts, loss of touring opportunities, and ongoing shutdowns due to the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact.
The expenses for which you are requesting funds must be incurred and paid within the U.S. (including D.C., Tribal Nations and U.S Territories).
In each cycle, we can consider emergencies that have occurred within approximately the last six months. The earliest date for an eligible emergency is listed in the cycle’s information.
HOW EMERGENCY EXPENSES WORK:
You may request up to $3,000 for eligible essential expenses, for up to a three-month consecutive period, ranging from six months before the grant deadline through six months after the grant deadline. Expenses can be already paid by you, can be owed, or can be coming up in the near future.
NYFA reserves the right to determine eligible and reasonable expenses to support through this grant program.
Eligible expenses include:
Rental housing (deposits, rent)
Utilities
Food
Medical/dental/mental healthcare and insurance premiums
Transportation (car payments, insurance, ride shares/taxis, mass transit)
Expenses essential to maintaining your abilities as a dancer (class fees, dance gear/shoes, physical therapy)
Rehearsal/studio space rental for teaching or choreographing (including insurance/utilities)
Other essential expenses which you can specify
Ineligible expenses include, but are not limited to:
Mortgage payments
Expenses related to other family members (i.e. food, healthcare, child/parent-care)
Non-essential expenses including credit card debt or student loans
Purchases of vehicles or other equipment
While housing and utilities expenses may be requested for your general household, other eligible expenses may only be requested for your own individual purposes. If you receive a grant, you will be required to certify your use of the funds for the expenses itemized in your application, and provide copies of your tax returns for the last two years you have filed.
Please check back here, or sign up for NYFA’s bi-weekly NYFA News email, to receive updates on any potential future cycles.
If you have questions, contact the Rauschenberg Grants Coordinator at [email protected] or 212-366-6900 x 239.

ABOUT JUNETEENTH
Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the abolition of slavery in the United States. Dating back to 1865, it was on June 19th that the Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free. This was two and a half years after President Lincoln?s Emancipation Proclamation ? which had become official January 1, 1863.
Today, it is a holiday that highlights the extraordinary contributions made by African Americans to the community, and also celebrates unity and hope for communities across the nation.

The forthcoming exhibit will feature a survey of contemporary artworks in multiple media that engage the legacies of craft and the poetics of technique and process as methods of material exploration and storytelling.
The exhibition borrows its title from Juhani Pallasmaa’s book, The Thinking Hand: Existential and Embodied Wisdom in Architecture. Throughout this influential text, Pallasmaa analyzes, “the essence of the hand and its seminal role in the evolution of human skills, intelligence and conceptual capacities,” and proposes that, rather than the mind being the solitary control center of imagination, “….perhaps, it is the hand that really imagines as it exists in the flesh of the world, the reality of space, matter and time, the very physical condition of the imagined object.” Artists are encouraged to submit 2D, 3D or time-based works that engage physical processes, material exploration and/or new approaches to traditional techniques as foundational elements in building form, meaning and/or narrative in the artwork.

- Submission Deadline: May 26, 2024
- Event Dates: October 18, 2024 - October 20, 2024
- Award Info: CARE invites artists to offer stations of care across the festival, where all are invited to stop, to rest, to CARE.

- Location: New York, New York, United States
Care is a ripple. From intimate to global, from self-care, care of family and lover, friend and neighbor, town and city, state and country, the global world, care undulates out to our whole island planet and every species upon it. To care is to look after, provide for, to watch over, to grieve, to lament, to cry, to feel concern, to attach importance. In a year of political turmoil, war, and environmental devastation, how wide can our caring arms be embraced? Who can we give care to? What can we care about? What can we watch over? What and who can we be careful about? Who is deemed worthy of care? What is appropriate care? When is care invasive? Should we care? Can we not care? Do we have that luxury? How can we give protective attention, caution, concern, and prudence? Can we extend care beyond our bodily, familial, national, species, and earthly borders? AiOP 2024 asks how art can create spaces and actions of compassionate fearless care. Can we offer and enter them with joy and love?
Art opens a space of empathy – an invitation to see through the eyes and heart and mind of another. An act of hope and imagination – art can help us dream new ways and new worlds into being. We invite you to imagine together how we can bring care to one another and our fraught and fragile world.
AiOP CARE invites artists, performers, agitators, and caretakers to enact notions of care along 14th Street NYC. We are looking for individuals, collectives, and collaborators, and those interested in collaborating with like-minded folks to design new team projects for the festival. CARE invites artists to offer stations of care across the festival, where all are invited to stop, to rest, to CARE.
Patricia Miranda and Christopher Kaczmarek are NYC-based artists, curators, and educators. Miranda is founder of the artist-run orgs The Crit Lab and MAPSpace, and works with donated, repurposed, lace and linens in site-responsive sculpture and installation. Kaczmarek’s work spans both experimental and traditional practices, including sculpture, site-specific installations, performance, video, built circuits and solar-powered objects.

Proposals for landscape art projects as part of Bielsko-Biała's candidacy for European Capital of Culture 2029
Public Art & Proposals

- Organization: Urban Culture Institute – City of Weaves
- Submission Deadline: May 31, 2024
- Award Info: Each of the selected projects will receive 1500€ as a selection fee.
- Eligibility: International
- Categories: Mixed-Media/Multi-Discipline, Sculpture
- Location: Bielsko-Biała, Poland
Bielsko-Biała, located South of Poland (bordering the Czech Republic and Slovakia), surrounded by the mountains and a candidate city for European Capital of Culture in 2029, is looking for landscape art project proposals by creatives from all over the world with experience working in outdoor natural spaces and a participatory approach.
More and more artists are creating works in natural spaces, forests or mountains. In response to the climate challenge and questions of sustainability, they wish to engage in dialogue with the natural elements, trees, rivers, sun, wind, rocks, fauna and flora. While taking care not to damage them. For BB29, a city surrounded by natural spaces, the aim is to present and share with the public a series of works emblematic of this new artistic field.
Bielsko-Biała participated in the Cities Ahead Academy of the Goethe-Institute. The Cities Ahead programme supports ambitious European cultural and creative cities in attaining more international visibility and cultural appeal. The open call as developed as a result of the Cities Ahead Academy that took place in Bielsko-Biała in January 2024.
Key themes of Bielsko-Biała candidacy for European Capital of Culture in
2029 (ECOC):
The concept of Bielsko-Biała is based on our slogan of WEAVING WELLBEING. On the one hand, it directly references the city's heritage, its textile tradition, which meant recognition on a European scale in the 19th and 20th centuries. On the other hand, the motif of the weave derived from this tradition is transferred to a multidimensional and relational way of perceiving the city; a city where nature intertwines with culture, and multiculturalism becomes a space for social dialogue; a city of diverse artistic expressions (creativity) and visions of development (innovations); a city with interwoven stories of people.
Wellbeing: We pose the question: how can we achieve a sense of wellbeing through art? Artists are encouraged to create environments that inspire tranquility, reflection, and a sense of connection with nature. The landscapes of Bielsko-Biała can serve as catalysts for positive emotional and mental experiences.
Environmental Consciousness: sustainability lies at the heart of our vision. We challenge artists into dialogue with the natural elements, consider the ecological impact of their creations and explore ways to engage with nature in a respectful and sustainable manner. The project may have environmental objectives, such as raising awareness about ecological conservation, sustainable land management practices, or addressing specific environmental challenges faced by the mountainous region.
Inclusivity and participation: The project might seek to involve local residents in the creation or appreciation of the artistic interventions, fostering a sense of pride and ownership among the community members towards their landscape and cultural heritage as well as enhancing residents' creativity and empowerment.
Artists must demonstrate a strong commitment to the themes of creativity, wellbeing, and environmental consciousness in their practice.
Collaborative proposals involving interdisciplinary teams are highly encouraged.

- Eligibility: International
- Categories: Craft/Traditional Arts, Photography, Drawing, Film/Video/New Media, Mixed-Media/Multi-Discipline, Painting, Sculpture

The purpose of the Joshua Tree National Park Artist in Residence Program is to provide opportunities for artists to creatively explore the resources of Joshua Tree National Park, promoting a deeper appreciation of the natural, cultural, and historical resources therein.
Artists are an important part of the national park system. Writings, paintings, photographs, and public outreach provide opportunities for new audiences to experience national parks. In the era of virtual visits, the role of artists is more important than ever in sharing unique perspectives of national parks with online audiences.
The Joshua Tree National Park Artist in Residence Program (AiR) is open to visual artists, performing artists, musicians and writers. Artist are invited for a one-month stay in fall or spring. There are two objectives for this residency. One is to give artists time to explore the park and pursue their own creative practice. The second is for the artist to share their unique perspective of the park’s resources with others.
Accommodations and Working Conditions
Artists in residence are housed at Black Rock in the northwest corner of the park. This area has a ranger station, a campground and access to many beautiful trails. Sitting at the base of the San Bernardino mountain range, its higher altitude makes this area one of the best for Joshua Trees and somewhat cooler than other parts of the park. Although conditions at this location are often relatively temperate, artists should be prepared for more extreme conditions during the course of their stay, including high winds, low relative humidity and temperatures that can range from 100 degrees Fahrenheit during the day to as low as 30 degrees at night.
Artists sleep in the studio space in the Black Rock Campground, which is furnished with a twin bed and bureau. The studio has a drafting table, several folding tables, and ample natural light. Public toilets are adjacent to the studio space. Shared kitchen, laundry, and bathing facilities are a short walk or drive from the studio at the Interagency Fire Center. The distance between the sleeping space and the kitchen and bathing facility is less than half a mile. The town of Yucca Valley is about a 10 minute drive away and has a variety of shopping and dining as well as medical facilities.
Though housing is provided, artists are responsible for their own expenses such as meals, personal art supplies, transportation, etc. Only one occupant is allowed at any time in housing. Park policy prohibits bringing pets.
Donation of Work to the Joshua Tree National Park Collection
At this time, work is not being accessioned into our museum collection. Therefore, artists are asked to share high-quality, digital images of any works produced as a result of their time in residence with the park, with permission to reproduce the images for the purposes of sharing work created through the residency with the public. Credit will be given to the artist any time the work is reproduced for this purpose.
Black Rock Art Gallery
The gallery is located in the Black Rock Nature Center and exists as a as a space for presenting contemporary interpretations of themes related to the park. Exhibitions are made by selected Artists in Residence as well as community and other artists.

An art residency provides the technical conditions, time, and space to develop ideas and try new approaches. It is a moment that promotes connection between artists from different backgrounds and consequently the exchange of knowledge and experiences.
Aviário Studio Multidisciplinary Residency aims to promote exploration and production in the Visual Arts. Artists can develop projects using a medium or a combination of technologies. Aviário Studio is an artist-run space with workshops equipped to develop works on Printmaking, Ceramics, Wood, Metal, Sculpture, Installation, Drawing, Painting, Photography and Bookbinding.
We offer the conditions to test possibilities and materialize ideas. On one hand, it can be a moment of transition, more connected to experimentation and research; on the other hand, it can be the point of consolidation of a project translated into the production of a new body of work.
The duration, focus and outcome of the residency is defined by the participating artist’s goals.
If accepted, Residency Fee includes :
- accommodation in a shared house,
- studio access during opening hours (Mon.-Fri. from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.)
- technical assistance on demand
-1 hour of project discussion/technical assistance per artist per day
-access to the workshops and equipment according to each participant experience.

We invite you to submit your work to the 22nd DongGang International Photo Festival, to be held this year from July 12th to September 29th, 2024 in Yeongwol, Gangwon State, Korea.
This year's theme;
Silently Loud
From nature's perspective, humanity itself is a form of hell. That is because of the tendency of humans to objectify and judge everything according to their own standards, thereby ignoring the natural world's intrinsic order. This one-sided disregard for the non-human elements around us is another form of disconnection and isolation, which can be seen as a definition of hell. Despite this, nature maintains a remarkable selflessness. It is driven solely by the instinct for survival, unmoved by human perspectives. To humans, nature’s struggle for survival seems unforgiving akin to the concept of hell. What if we shifted our perspective to see nature from its own vantage point and cultivated an attitude in harmony with it? Then, we would realize that nature has never been hellish, not for an instant.
Humans at times fail to acknowledge the presence of nature. We are inherently part of nature, yet often, we elevate ourselves to the status of the main characters, forgetting our intrinsic connection to the natural world. From birth, nature serves as a backdrop, an external influence shaping our lives. Yet, this omnipresent environment leads us to prioritize ourselves, neglecting nature in the process.
This competition aims to take a closer look at the existential boundaries and lives of humans from an ecosystem perspective, focusing on highlighting our interconnectedness. It is our hope that the beautiful relationship between humans and nature, expressed through photography, will come to fruition and be manifested on a greater scale.
