The Mathews-Sanders Sculpture Garden in Cleveland, Mississippi, is seeking an open call for 11th Biennial Outdoor Sculpture Competition for exhibition on the grounds of the Bologna Performing Arts Center on the campus of Delta State University, the Grammy Mississippi Museum, and downtown in the city of Cleveland. We anticipate selecting twelve works: eight sculptures at the BPAC, three sculptures downtown, and one sculpture at the Grammy Mississippi Museum.

The call is open to all artists and artist teams, age 18 and over, using durable materials suitable for outside elements and change in temperature that requires little to no maintenance during the display period. The call is open to sculptures of all types. Preference will be given to artworks with a musical theme at the Grammy Museum and downtown Cleveland. The Bologna Performing Arts Center presents the best in the arts and entertainment through a series of national and international multi-disciplinary performances and hosts over 200 events per year.

The work will be on exhibition from August 9, 2024 to August 9, 2026, at the end of which time a purchase award will be granted for one sculpture. The purchased sculpture will remain in the sculpture garden as part of the permanent collection.

This competition provides opportunities for regional and national artists to exhibit their work, make visible the University's commitment to and appreciation of artistic endeavors, enhance the vitality of the campus environment, and offer students first hand educational experience with sculpture. Thirty-seven pieces of sculpture have been purchased from the ten previous competitions and have been permanently placed at various locations on the Delta State campus, Grammy Mississippi Museum, and downtown Cleveland.

1. Artists may submit up to nine digital images of sculpture THAT WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR THE DURATION OF THE COMPETITION. Two views of each work should be submitted. High-resolution digital images are preferred with a minimum of 300 dpi saved in a jpeg format. 2. An identification sheet must accompany the digital submission and provide the following: a. Title, medium, and dimensions (h x w x d) for each submission

b. Exact Footprint dimensions

c. Purchase price for each submission

d. A statement of long-term upkeep must also be included and speak directly to the following: maintenance of surfaces, potential cost, and any equipment needed for maintenance. *A crane will be available during the installation in August. The artist will furnish any additional installation materials and will be responsible for anchoring all work during the installation.

Special Service Area 61 Hyde Park (SSA 61) welcomes artists to submit their artworks for consideration to revitalize the 53rd & 55th St. viaducts in Hyde Park. SSA 61 represents the welfare of the businesses in the Hyde Park district and understands the important role the viaducts play in welcoming visitors to explore those businesses. Each selected artist will be provided a set stipend of $3,000 per panel for the use of their artwork. Selected artworks will be reproduced on vinyl on the existing panels by third party printing and installation company, Moss Inc (Moss).

About SSA 61 and the South East Chicago Commission
The South East Chicago Commission is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that works to facilitate and support economic development within the Southeast lakefront communities of Hyde Park, Kenwood, Oakland, Washington Park and Woodlawn and to foster collaboration and coordination among businesses, organizations and institutions to promote the creation of jobs, investment and economic vitality. The SECC serves as the official Service Provider for Special Service Area #61 aka Downtown Hyde Park, which comprises the 53rd and 55th Street corridors connected by Lake Park Avenue. Special Service Areas, known as Business Improvement Districts or BIDs in other cities, are local tax districts that fund expanded services and programs through a localized property tax levy within contiguous areas.

A curatorial team of three representatives from the South Side will be responsible for the artwork selection and sequence. The jurors include Monique Brinkman-Hill, Executive Director of South Side Community Art Center, Mariela Acuña, Exhibitions and Residency Manager at Hyde Park Art Center, and Ciera McKissick, Public Programs Manager at Hyde Park Art Center. Chicago Public Art Group (CPAG) will not be selecting the artists.

Project Objective:
Successful submissions will approach the site with a bold and creative vision that reflects the community's best qualities - its connectedness, diversity, culture, entertainment, and residents. The viaducts connect the east and west side of the business districts allowing the art to seamlessly encourage movement throughout. Submissions should create an attraction that acts as an entry point for visitors to experience the viaducts as a "must see" amenity. This revitalization serves to improve the safety and well-being of pedestrians, bikers, and vehicular traffic by creating a sense of place for surprising, delightful interactions, welcoming visitors and residents alike to venture through Hyde Park.

The project goals are to connect with two groups:

(1) Hyde Parkers, those who live east of the viaducts and need to walk through them to get to the restaurants and shops. The viaducts should be a joyful compliment to the local businesses and attractions that Hyde Park offers. This project is not intended to be a didactic display of South Side history.

(2) Non-South Siders, fellow Chicagoans we want to pull in to Hyde Park for entertainment, shopping and eating. The goal is to make the viaducts welcoming and inviting for everyone.

There are a total of 19 stainless steel panels: 13 on the Southside of 53rd St with most a variably standard size (8' x 12'), and one is longer (8' x 16'). The remaining 6 panels are on the Southside of 55th St: four are standard (8' x 12'), two are larger (8' x 16'). In submitting your artwork, please indicate on your annotated image list whether your artwork best fits on an 8' x 12' or an 8' x 16' panel. Due to the slight variations of each panel size, minimal cropping or image adjustments may occur at the discretion of Moss and CPAG.

Each pre-existing panel will receive a large format, high quality digital print on 3M vinyl with self adhesive backing. The prints will be produced with a matte finish, professionally applied to the panels, and covered with a graffiti resistant coating. Moss will print and install each artwork.

30 finalists will be notified and selected for their artwork submission to undergo review and approval by Moss. 19 or fewer artists will be awarded with a panel.

Timeline
The application is open from 4/5/24 - 5/5/24. Jury deliberation & Moss review will occur in May. Artist contracts will be awarded in June and artists payments will occur once artwork is print ready. Printing and installation will take place Summer 2024. The anticipated lifespan for the artwork is approximately 3 or more years.

Application Requirements
Artists should submit 3-5 artworks. These can be pre-existing or newly developed artworks. At least one submission must be convertible to all size and electronic formatting requirements described in Moss' Color Management & Art Submission Guidelines included below. In addition to the jurors' selection, artworks submitted for reproduction will be pre-approved by Moss to guarantee they meet all requirements. Artists with a connection to Hyde Park are encouraged to apply.

The artworks submitted for reproduction should provide an eclectic and pleasing aesthetic experience for passersby. Light, vibrant and bold colors are encouraged, but not required. Submissions can be digitally developed, or for existing work, can be photographed and processed digitally. Each panel will have a 10.5" explanatory text and credits on the bottom of the printed images in the same pre-existing brown color. Images of the viaducts can be found on CPAG's website project page linked above or the viaducts can be visited in person.

Phase I & II
This is a two-phase submission process. Phase I includes everything on CaFE in the "What to Submit" section below. Due 5/5/24.

(CaFE does not have the ability to accept submissions that will immediately meet Moss' Art Submission Guidelines)

In Phase II, the jurors will narrow the CaFE submissions down to 30 artworks. CPAG will ask artists to upload the selected artwork on Dropbox so it meets Moss' Art Submission Guidelines below. Artworks submitted that do not meet these guidelines cannot be considered for reproduction. Moss will conduct a review of each submission to ensure it is high resolution, reproducible and print ready. The jurors will make their decision on the final 19 artworks based on Moss' report.

What to Submit
3-5 images of your artwork. At least one of the images should be able to meet the guidelines below in Phase II. The additional artworks submitted should showcase previous experience.
Annotated Image List that clearly states which artwork is intended for this project's vinyl reproduction and what size panel it fits best: 8' x 12' or 8' x 16'. The Annotated Image List should also include the title, year, medium, size and location.

Learn the fundamental elements of oil painting, and discover a range of techniques in these fun and relaxed workshops. Using reference photographs you will learn how to begin and develop an oil painting to a decent standard.

A single booking gets you 2 lessons that are 1 week apart, amounting to 5 hours in total. The first lesson will focus on the underpainting, taking care to achieve a solid structure and convincing tone. The second lesson is where you will bring your paintings to life with the final layer. You will learn how to match colours accurately, refine the shapes, introduce hard and soft edges, add details, and utilize techniques like glazing and scumbling. Throughout the 2 sessions there will be an open discussion, lots of handy tips, and you can ask as many questions as you like. They’re always welcome!

Oil painting is hard, but it's also very forgiving. The marks you initially make do not need to be the marks that stay. Through the continual application and removal of paint you will discover that you are in control and, with practice, can overcome many of the difficulties we are faced with. Learning how to see and what to look for when painting from observation is perhaps the most valuable lesson, and from there we can explore an endless range of possibilities.

Each year, we choose up to 10 rising stars to compete for our $5,000 Rising Star Award. Emerging performing artists with roots in Howard County can apply to be among the finalists who will perform at our Celebration gala — with the winner voted on by the audience! The competition is open to performers, both individuals and ensembles (up to four members), ages 18-35, who live, train, work or perform regularly in Howard County or have done so in the past.

Following the finalists’ performances at the gala, the audience — including over 500 artists, arts patrons, community members and business and political leaders — casts their votes for the winner. Votes are tallied during the live event and the award winner is announced on stage! We may also give additional awards based on the amount of funding raised from the event.

Celebrate spring with Play Frisco Cultural Affairs as we seek out two-dimensional and three-dimensional artwork that reflects the natural world! All forms of fiber art and nature-themed art in other mediums such as landscape or wildlife-based paintings, printmaking, photography and sculpture will be considered. The exhibition will run June 5 - August 3, 2024.

Two-dimensional artworks must be framed, wired, and ready to hang. Artworks may not be larger than 72” in any direction. The Frisco Discovery Center is a place for all ages and artworks must be unifying, community-centric and family-friendly.

This public sculpture competition was created to bring fine art to the parks and public spaces throughout the city of Sandy Springs, the second largest city in the metropolitan Atlanta area. Nine sculptures will be prominently displayed around the four-acre green at City Springs, the City’s town center. One or more sculptures from each competition will be purchased by the City to be permanently placed in public locations around Sandy Springs.

A City of the Arts – and a great place for artists to showcase their work

Sandy Springs is home to more than 100,000 residents and is Georgia’s seventh-largest City. The City’s name is derived from an actual spring within the city, and Sandy Springs does not disappoint with its beautiful surroundings. The City is bordered by the Chattahoochee River and has developed a network of award-winning parks, including Morgan Falls Overlook Park and the Abernathy Greenway Park, known for its playable art park.

Sandy Springs exudes a suburban/rural feel with its serene rivers and pristine parks juxtaposed with premier dining and a thriving business community. Many of the Fortune 500 companies which call the metro area home are in Sandy Springs, including UPS, WestRock, Newell Brands, and Intercontinental Exchange, the parent company of the New York Stock Exchange. This balance of business and amenities is attractive to both older and younger generations, with most of the City’s population under age 50.

The City of Sandy Springs is relatively young, incorporating in 2005. From the start, city leaders have prioritized incorporating arts within the City’s brand. Soon after incorporation, Art Sandy Springs (ArtSS), a nonprofit volunteer organization, was founded and launched Arts in the Open, establishing the foundation for building the City’s visual arts program. The organization’s first outdoor sculpture competition was held in 2008, attracting more than ten national and international submissions, with four permanent works purchased with private funds, catalyzing the City’s public art collection. In 2014, through the efforts of ArtSS, the Playable Art Park opened to national praise with six mega sculptures built by artists for kids to play on and interact with, becoming a popular regional destination for children of all ages.

In May 2018, the City opened City Springs, a walkable, multi-use complex including a 1,100 seat performance theatre, studio theatre, conference center, and four-acre City Green. City Springs was envisioned as a gathering place for the community and has filled that vision with its theatre and musical performances as well as becoming home to iconic community events, including the City’s annual Stars and Stripes Fireworks and Sparkle Sandy Springs Parade in addition to the Farmer’s Market and City Green Live Concert Series. The City Green anchors the outdoor stage and is the center point for City Springs.

In 2019, in partnership with ARTSS, the City launched the Arts in the Open Sculpture Competition at City Springs. The competition not only provides a showcase at City Springs, but the selection of pieces from each round has also transformed green spaces throughout the City into mini urban outdoor galleries.

Working in partnership with the City of Sandy Springs, Art Sandy Springs manages the competition, including the Call for Entries (CFE), evaluation and jurying of submissions, and the installation of selected sculptures.

Promotion

Sculptures will be installed on the City Green, the site of popular city activities, such as the Sandy Springs Festival, City Springs Live concert series, Movies By Moonlight series, and the Food That Rocks festival. Audiences at the 1,100-seat Byers Theatre and 350-seat Studio Theatre are steps away from the showcased sculptures.

Each sculpture will feature a plaque with the name of the artist and the title of the work.
Daily foot traffic among the sculptures will include individuals visiting Sandy Springs City Hall for business and civic purposes as well as thousands of patrons of the Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center, community events, restaurants, and retail establishments.
Artists whose work are selected for exhibit acknowledge that the City of Sandy Springs, Visit Sandy Springs, Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center, and Art Sandy Springs may use photographs and videos of the artwork to promote the City’s public arts program as well as encourage visitations to Sandy Springs. 2024-2025 Exhibition Guidelines

There is no fee for entry.
Artists may submit up to 3 individual sculptures for consideration. ***Each sculpture entry must be submitted INDIVIDUALLY / One Sculpture per Application***
All submissions must be made electronically through CaFE.org and should include a full description of the artwork with a minimum of three (3) photo images (front, side, and back views), an artist’s statement and artist bio. All artwork shall be the property of the artist submitting the entry.
Artists will receive a $1,500 honorarium for each piece selected for exhibition. If piece is purchased, the honorarium will be applied toward the purchase price.
All entries shall be existing works, completed prior to submission. No incomplete artwork will be considered.
Artwork shall be suitable for outdoor public display and be of high artistic quality as well as safe for an active pedestrian environment and appropriate for viewers of all ages.
Artwork must require only minimal maintenance, if any, and be able to withstand the effects of weather, be as resistant as possible to vandalism, and be able to withstand pedestrian contact.
Artwork shall be undamaged and unblemished. Artwork must be fabricated and finished with non-hazardous materials.
Artists are encouraged to visit the exhibition site during the application period and before the final jury decision.
Artwork will be on loan to the city of Sandy Springs during the exhibition period and may be available for sale to the public. If a sculpture sells, the artwork cannot be removed before the end of the exhibition period. There will be a 20% commission paid to Art Sandy Springs for pieces purchased by entities other than the city of Sandy Springs.
It is the artist’s responsibility to deliver and oversee installation of their sculpture and to be present for the sculpture’s removal at the end of the exhibition. Artwork cannot be shipped as there is no available storage space or staff available for this purpose.
The City of Sandy Springs and Art Sandy Springs reserve the right to reject work that is not the same artwork as was selected in response to this CFE. Artwork may also be rejected if it does not meet call requirements.
All artwork shall be structurally able to be secured to a concrete pad with anchor bolts. Concrete pads are provided for the display of each sculpture. The anchoring method will be approved by the city engineer. For selected artwork, each artist will be required to submit detailed information relating to the proposed anchoring method and provide any and all mounting bolts and hardware. Attachment B provides diagrams with location, dimensions, and weight capacity.
No artwork shall be exhibited without the artist and the city executing a document acknowledging that the artwork has been installed properly and satisfactorily and that the city accepts responsibility for the artwork from the time it is properly installed to the time it is de-installed.
No artwork shall be exhibited without the city of Sandy Springs first having obtained an Artist Agreement executed by each artist selected for exhibition in the competition.

The Sacramento County Department of Airports invites artists and artist teams to submit a statement of qualifications and experience for the Design, Fabrication, and Installation of Public Artworks at Sacramento International Airport (New Terminal B Parking Garage and Pedestrian Walkway Projects)

SMForward, which includes six major construction projects, represents a historic opportunity to integrate art into the traveler’s experience while reinforcing and contributing to the Sacramento region’s identity.

New quarterly award for artists who want to change the world through the way they live or the work they make. Artists working with themes of environmental and social justice from anywhere in the world are eligible to enter the award.

Inequality in the art world is rife, around 85% of artists represented by US institutions are white and many classical paintings have been found to have racist undertones or themes. Not to mention the gender pay gap, of the $196.6bn spent at auctions between 2008 and 2019, work produced by women accounted for only £4bn, a measly 2% of the total sales. What's more, in music, performing and visual arts only 22% are from working class backgrounds compared with 60% from more privileged backgrounds.

The award by conceptual artist, Amy Jackson which launched in 2023 with the first winner receiving £250 in prize money to invest in their artwork. The bursary will take place every year and will be a minimum of £250 or 50% of the artist's profits that year (whichever is higher). Artists anywhere in the world, working in any medium are eligible but they must demonstrate an interest in environmental or social justice in their work or practice.

"It’s not just about giving a voice to those otherwise unheard but trying to demonstrate by example, a new way of living and thinking about money".

The award is open to any artist, working in any medium, anywhere in the world, at any age or stage in their career. The winner will be selected based on three simple criteria:

How conceptually strong the work or artist's practice is in relation to the theme "environmental and social justice"?
How technically strong the work or artist's practice is when judged as a piece of contemporary Fine Art?
To what extent will the bursary benefit the artist and their practice.

Blue Space Gallery - " Expressions of Humanity ", an international competition and virtual exhibition. Artists of all ages from around the world are invited to participate, with complete freedom in choosing their medium and style. Submissions should revolve around the central theme of " Expressions of Humanity”. Entry is free; only those artists whose submissions are chosen as finalists will be required to pay a $35 participation fee. Finalists will have their artwork showcased in the online exhibition and will advance to the final jurying round in consideration for cash prizes and the opportunity to win the grand prize of $1,000. Karen Turner
Karen Turner is an award-winning figure and portrait artist whose oil paintings are a commentary on the weight of expectations. Focusing on the physical body and the scrutiny to which it is commonly subjected, her paintings explore what society expects of a woman, the ways in which a woman’s shape is often considered to define her, and the impact that this has on her life and sense of self.
Karen was the winner of the VAA Professional Artist Award in 2022 and is currently one of ten finalists for The Dubel Emerging Artist of the Year Prize. She was awarded the President’s Prize by the Institute of East Anglian Artists and has been a finalist in the Beautiful Bizarre Art Prize, the Holly Bush Emerging Woman Painter Prize and the Theo Paphitis Art Prize. She exhibits with The Other Art Fair and has recently held her first solo show in London with Red Eight Gallery.
Josephine Zentner
Josephine Zentner is the Art Prize and Gallery Coordinator at Jackson's. She produces the annual international competition that attracts thousands of entries per year, resulting in two London exhibitions of shortlisted works. Being a practicing artist herself, Josephine offers first hand insight on submitting art to competitions.

Radiance is a new, summer exhibition hosted by ADC Fine Art featuring artwork that evokes happiness and warmth. Established in 1988, the Arts at the Airport Foundation is an ever-growing, ever-changing showcase of Tennessee’s cultural heritage and creative talents. The terminal and surrounding facilities at Nashville International Airport were designed to incorporate rotating public art exhibitions and permanent acquisitions for the enjoyment and enrichment of its passengers, visitors, and employees.

The Flying Solo Exhibition Series is supported by the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority (MNAA). Each exhibit will be four months long. Artwork is expected to be framed and ready to display. Artist is responsible for delivering and picking up artwork from BNA. An honorarium is awarded to exhibiting artists ranging from $750 to $1,500. Arts related community groups as well as schools are eligible to apply in addition to individual artists.

FLYING SOLO

Part of the Arts at the Airport program, the Flying Solo Exhibition Series was developed in 1996. The 27-year-old series provides a highly visible venue for Tennessee artists, acts as an advocate for artists, and offers visitors a taste of the rich art and craft culture of our region.

There are several new exhibition spaces due to the recent BNA Vision construction/renovation projects at the Airport. There are six spaces that will accommodate two-dimensional artwork and two spaces that will exhibit three-dimensional work. Please note on your application which you will be exhibiting.

Located on Concourse D near Gate D2. It has a sliding glass door making it an excellent space for three-dimensional objects as well as two-dimensional artwork.

TERAVARNA announces their "9th ANIMAL" International Juried Art Competition. All visual artists from around the world are invited to submit their best artworks on the theme for inclusion in the exhibition. The City of Rahway envisions a community in which art and design enrich all aspects of public life and where artists and creatives find opportunity to thrive. The City invites artists to submit their qualifications for the Public Art Program. The City will create a list of pre-qualified artists through this call to artists. Artists chosen for the Pre-qualified Artist List will be eligible for consideration for upcoming public art projects, murals, and sculpture installations in the City of Rahway. Pre-qualified artists will remain on the list through December 2026. Inclusion in the list does not guarantee a commission.

The Maryland Center for the Arts invites plein air painters to apply for one of 30 spots in its 10th Annual Harford Plein Air Festival. The Harford Plein Air Festival attracts painters from across the U.S. looking for new scenes to paint in hopes of winning over $10,000 in prizes and sales commissions. Harford County offers colonial and contemporary architecture, railroad bridges and covered bridges, quiet fishing streams and boulder strewn waterfalls, bucolic farm scenes and bustling small-town streets. This year's Entry Juror is Dr. Jacalyn Beam.
We encourage juried artists to produce their best work by allowing them to work at their own pace, from July 1 to September 12, verifying their work by submitting gps- and time-stamped photos or with traditional pre-stamped canvases. On Sept. 12, juried artists are invited to join Awards Judge John Hulsey of the Artist's Road at Ladew Gardens for painting. A group dinner follows. Three days of gallery sales and exhibits begin with an opening reception and awards ceremony celebrating 'Arts Across Harford,' a popular countrywide festival of visual and performing arts, which brings visitors from around the MidAtlantic region. Online sales continue from Sept. 20 to Oct. 31. Competition rules are available at www.mdcfa.org.

Total of 5 (Five) paintings for awards judging on September 13, 2024, at the Bel Air Armory. All work must be original and painted en plein air during the Harford Plein Air Painting Festival, between July 1, 2024, and September 12, 2024, without the use of photographs.

Paintings must be hung by the artist or the artist’s representative between the hours of 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Friday, September 13, 2024, at the Bel Air Armory, 37 N. Main St., Bel Air, MD 21014 A maximum of FIVE paintings from the Festival may be displayed at any one time on the gallery panel (ie, if a painting is sold, it may be replaced by one other painting). Only ONE painting of the five may be displayed on an easel, per artist, next to the provided artist’s gallery panel.

The Parent Grant is a four-week residency for an artist with at least one dependent child under the age of 18. Artists may choose to work in any of our studio disciplines: intaglio, letterpress, papermaking, screenprinting, photography, or ceramics.

Possible childcare scenarios include:

Bringing a caregiver or co-parent (must be 18+) to stay at WSW for the residency period
Finding a childcare facility near WSW
Locating individuals near WSW who can provide childcare
Paying for childcare at your family’s home base
If you plan to bring your child/children and are in need of childcare, WSW recommends using Ulster County Child Care Connections or care.com to locate area providers. WSW cannot assist applicants in finding childcare options.

If your child/children are coming with you, WSW can provide a two-bedroom apartment (with one single bed, one double, and one single pull-out couch) that has a bathroom and an open kitchen/living area. The maximum occupancy is four. Please note that, for safety reasons and to maintain a focused working environment, children cannot be in the studios where artists are working, and must be supervised by an adult at all times.

The Art-in-Education (AIE) Workspace Residency is for artists interested in working with local school students while creating their own work in WSW’s supportive and immersive environment. This is an opportunity for artists with a range of teaching experience, from seasoned teachers and professors, to those with minimal experience and an interest in gaining skills and knowledge.

The Art-in-Education program is a model for arts education and operates in conjunction with the Kingston City School District. AIE provides a high quality arts experience by bringing students to WSW’s professional artists’ workspace and giving them concentrated time to learn. Our staff and AIE program manager work with the school’s teachers and the resident artists to develop and execute a curriculum related to the students’ in-school work.

Resident artists must be able to teach intaglio, silkscreen, or hand papermaking, and are welcome to complete their personal work in any of WSW’s studios: intaglio, letterpress, papermaking, screenprinting, darkroom photography, or ceramics. All artists receive a thorough studio orientation and are expected to work independently, though studio staff is available to provide assistance. Deep technical assistance can be arranged for an additional fee. Artists must provide their own materials, some of which can be purchased from WSW.

Spring residency 2025: During a five-week residency, artists teach fourth and/or eighth graders in WSW’s studios two days/week for three weeks and visit the students twice in school. In exchange for teaching, residents receive 24/7 studio access during non-AIE sessions and on-campus housing.

Fall residency 2024: During a four-week residency, artists teach high school students in WSW’s studios one day/week and visit the students in school at least once.

As of 2019, all workspace residencies are fully subsidized! This means that while artists are still responsible for their own travel, materials, meals, and other personal incidentals while in residence, WSW provides housing and studio space at no cost.

Abandoned is an exhibition exploring abandoned and rediscovered objects, spaces, and structures. A popular genre in the photographic world is the trend of urban exploration ("urbex”), the exploration of abandoned or forgotten places to document the narrative of those who lived or worked there. Through the captured image, we can glimpse the ephemeral nature and memory of ourselves and our surroundings and preserve them before being lost to time and place. What do these structures and objects convey about society as we leave them to decay? What is the essence of time and place, and what-or whom-are we abandoning?

Abandoned is an international open call for photographers ages 18 and older. All forms of traditional and non-conventional media, and conventional or alternative processes with a subjective analog or digital photographic base are welcome for submission.

This grant category offers grant funding for Professional Fees and Supplies for arts projects which focus on increasing access to underserved and underrepresented people which may include ethnic groups*, people with disabilities, people aged 60 years and older, and active-duty military/veterans and their families.

Green & Stone, the internationally renowned art shop, opened the Gallery in 2018.

Each year, we host two open calls in search of emerging talent. The first prize of our Summer Exhibition is a fully funded solo show. Previous winners include Nneka Uzoigwe, Michael Slusakowicz and Tushar Sabale. Since exhibiting with us, these artists have soared within the artistic community.

We take pride in being many artists' first rung on the ladder of success. We are a gallery orientated towards emerging artists with incredible talent and potential. The work we exhibit is unique, contemporary and affordable. Our growing community is testimony to the success of our model. Our ambition is to create a space that will become a primary resource upon which artists, collectors, researchers, curators, and the broader artistic community might draw and benefit in the future.

Since 2018, our Summer Exhibition has grown exponentially. It is now accompanied by over £20,000 worth of prizes and a notable selection panel that changes yearly, encouraging a refreshed selection. Selection is done blindly and assessed purely on the quality of the artwork. The selection culminates with the Private View, a fantastic opening night hosted by the Gallery, which spills onto the street. This is an excellent opportunity to network with artists, curators, collectors, and art lovers. All are welcome and encouraged to join.

This year, we are excited to announce the expansion of our Gallery, which will add another room to our Summer Exhibition. This room will allow another additional 40 - 50 artworks. We are also excited to announce we will be giving the fantastic Young Artist Award, a cash prize of £3,000, which was generously donated by the de Laszlo Foundation for the third year running.

For nearly 80 years, Sawtooth has been a creative hub for the region—an energetic craft school environment in downtown Winston-Salem, NC. Our year-long Artist-in-Residence programs encourage the development of new skills, connections, and bodies of work while assisting with studio operations.

Ceramic Residents, 2 in wood firing and 1 in electric/gas firing, are given 24/7 access to studio space, materials at cost, free firings, and the opportunity to teach, inspire, and energize our community.

Our Gondring Resident in Woodworking will receive round-the-clock access to Wood and Lathe studios, a semi-private studio space, and a $3,000 stipend in exchange for working several hours per week.

Residents are chosen by the Studio Directors, along with a rotating jury. Applicants are evaluated based on the quality of their work, their dedication to their craft, and their willingness to bring fresh perspectives to the creative community at Sawtooth.

The Studios of Key West, the premier arts organization at the Southernmost Point of the United States, offers a residency program for emerging and established artists and writers from around the world. The Studios provides residencies to visual artists, writers, composers, musicians, media artists, performers, and interdisciplinary artists.

The Peyton Evans Artist Residency (PEAR) program grants nearly 40 artists each year the time and space to imagine new artistic work, engage in valuable dialogue and explore island connections. The PEAR Program is community-based and built upon the hope that visiting artists will take inspiration from Key West’s rich artistic past and present, and will engage with — and be inspired by — the remarkable people and culture that surrounds them. Key West’s official motto, “One Human Family” reflects our commitment to living together as caring, sharing neighbors dedicated to making our home as close to paradise as we can. To that end, we encourage artists of all races, nationalities, gender identities, sexual orientations, and abilities to apply.

Our residencies are one month; they run from the 2nd day of the month to the last day of the month. The newly renovated residency guesthouse (PEAR House) is right next door to our flagship building, in the Old Town neighborhood, just a block off of Duval Street. Even being so close to the downtown action, the PEAR House is an oasis of quiet, with a beautiful, spacious courtyard shaded by a massive banyan tree. It’s dripping with Key West history and character. Artists will have access to a shared kitchen, a covered outdoor common area, a second floor wash/work station and a shaded courtyard. All living spaces include a private bedroom and bathroom; some include a detached workspace, some are combined. One residency is ADA accessible on the ground floor, and three are second floor spaces (one is a loft). All spaces have A/C. The kitchen is well equipped, linens are provided and there are laundry facilities on site. Most cell phones work fine and there is Wifi access. There are no televisions.

The Studios of Key West was founded in 2006 with the initial inspiration of simply providing space for artists to live and work, thereby drawing creative people to our island and enriching the lives of all who live here. In those earliest days, our founder Peyton Evans gathered fourteen of Key West’s most successful artists and writers and arranged for them to participate in artist residency programs throughout the country, then return to help us craft our own program combining the best of what they’d seen and learned. Hundreds of writers and artists have since come to Key West through the PEAR Program, many returning and several relocating permanently. Each has benefited from the island’s unique character, and left something of themselves behind. The PEAR Program celebrates the spirit of exploration with which it was founded, the artists it was established to serve, and the vision, wisdom and generosity of the woman for whom it’s named.

The Public Theater is hosting cultural critic Jose Solís’ BIPOC Critics Lab in the 2024-25 season. After successfully hosting the 2023-2024 cohort, The Public is honored to continue Solís’ commitment to creating an educational space for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) writers in the realm of cultural criticism.

Sessions for the Lab will span the course of The Public’s 2024-25 season. Those chosen to participate will receive offers to join the cohort in late June, with the cohort officially beginning in mid-September. This iteration of the cohort will be a hybrid model of online sessions and option in-person activities.

The program begins with ten 90-minute weekly sessions on Zoom for cohort members to define “What My Criticism Will Be”, to take place in Fall 2024. Additional learning opportunities will take place in the spring on a semi-regular basis. Participants who meet the attendance requirements will be assigned a future commissioned piece with compensation.

Following the tenets of dialogue, compassion, and nurturing one’s unique voice, future critics who participate in the cohort will contribute to the creation of a custom program that fits their specific needs and encourages them to pursue the path of criticism that best serves them. Participating in the cohort is at no cost to members. Selected members will have the opportunity to learn all aspects of arts journalism through a variety of mediums beyond the written word. BIPOC experts in the field also serve as guest speakers for the Lab. Writers who meet the attendance requirements at the culmination of the program will be assigned a future commissioned piece with compensation.
About the BIPOC Critics Lab
The BIPOC Critics Lab was founded in 2020 by Jose Solís as a first-of-its-kind program designed to train and create work by emerging BIPOC theater journalists. Solís noticed a gap in training based on his own experience as a cultural critic in the field and created an educational space for BIPOC writers who had not been welcomed into cultural criticism, whether due to systemic oppression, lack of opportunity, or because they didn’t know they were allowed to see themselves as critics. Solís solicited applicants for the first cohort through Twitter where over 100 BIPOC participants expressed interest in participating. From 2021-2023, The Kennedy Center hosted the BIPOC Critics Lab online as a part of the American College Theater Festival. In the summer of 2023, a cohort was also co-hosted by the Stratford Festival and Intermission Magazine. During its 2023-2024 season, The Public Theater hosted its first BIPOC Critics Lab cohort. Alumni of the program have gone on to write and work as editors for outlets such as The Los Angeles Times, Andscape, Elle, Glamour, American Theatre, Broadway News, 3Views, Brooklyn Rail, and Token Theatre Friends.

Offered since 1954, the James Laughlin Award is given to recognize and support a second book of poetry forthcoming in the next calendar year. The award was endowed in 1995 by a gift to the Academy from the Drue Heinz Trust. It is named for the poet and publisher James Laughlin (1914-1997), who founded New Directions in 1936.

The winning poet receives a prize of $5,000, an all-expenses-paid weeklong residency at The Betsy Hotel in Miami Beach, Florida, and distribution of the winning book to approximately one thousand Academy of American Poets members.

Submissions for the 2024 James Laughlin Award are accepted from January 1, 2024 to May 15, 2024. The judges are Tarfia Faizullah, Keetje Kuipers, and Barbara Jane Reyes.

Parklane Gallery will host the 32nd Annual International Miniature Show in the month of July 2024. Parklane Gallery has been at the heart of the Kirkland area fine art community since 1991. The gallery is located across Lake Washington from Seattle, in beautiful downtown Kirkland. July is an optimal month for an exhibition in Kirkland as tourists and local visiting shops and restaurants bring foot traffic and art lovers to the gallery.

Open to both 2D & 3D art. Miniature art is fine art on a small scale with minute attention to detail which can be enlarged or withstand close inspection without revealing faults. Non-representation work such as abstracts must meet the spirit of a miniature if all other factors in the definition of a miniature is met. No photography or digital art will be considered.

The Arts Council of White Lake – Nuveen Center (ACWL-Nuveen), Whitehall, Michigan, invites artists that live in the Lake Michigan region - MI, IN, IL, and WI - aged 18+ to submit artwork for our juried Music - Op. 1 No. 4 exhibition – June 14 – July 20, 2024. For this exhibition we are seeking artists who find inspiration from any form of sound, music, musicians, instruments, and express these ideas in their artwork. Acceptable formats include all 2D and 3D artwork in all mediums, and digital media. Inventive interactive instruments are also welcomed! A $200 ACWL-Nuveen Concerto prize will be awarded for outstanding artwork.

For the past three years the ACWL-Nuveen has hosted a music-themed exhibit to highlight the rich creative intersection between music and visual art and to celebrate the vibrant summer music scene in the White Lake community. Music in the Whitehall/Montague area during the summer includes our longest running program - the Free Summer Concert Series - plus the Third Coast Trombone Retreat, White Lake Chamber Music Festival, music offerings at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, and the variety of musicians playing at local breweries and pubs.
