In accordance with Hawai‘i Revised Statute 103-8.5, the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts (SFCA), Art in Public Places Program is requesting qualifications from individual artists for artwork to be featured in the Our Sea of Islands art exhibition hosted at Capitol Modern: The Hawai'i State Art Museum. Through this RFQ we intend to establish a qualified pool of professional artists for consideration.

A phrase coined by scholar and cultural practitioner Epeli Hauʻofa, “Our Sea of Islands” is an oft-quoted reference to a redirection in the perspectives of the islands in the Pacific. Rather than considering these islands as an exotic other, Hauʻofa challenged the world to see the Pacific region as a metropolis for engagement of all kinds. We consider the exhibition, Our Sea of Islands, to be one that uses engagement as the cornerstone not only for the resulting presentation of artworks, but also for the very foundation of those pieces or performances from conception to fabrication to manifestation.

The Dayton Society of Artists (DSA) is pleased to present The Future of Female, an exhibition focused on the ideals, hopes, and experiences of women identifying artists. The call for art is open to any women identifying artists who are 18 years or older and who live, work, or attend school in the state of Ohio. All art in any medium, style, and technique will be considered. Art must be original. The juror Heather Jones and $600 will be given in prizes.

ABOUT THE JUROR
Heather Jones is an artist that uses abstraction and color to comment on matrilineal connections, the historical and socio-political relationship between women and textiles, and explores the relationship between gender, place, time, and culture in her work. Her sewn paintings and sculptures continue the story of geometric abstraction, and she is influenced by artists including Josef and Anni Albers, Mark Rothko, Ellsworth Kelly, and Carmen Herrara, but also equally by a vast group of unknown female makers from the Southern and Appalachian regions of the United States and their patchwork quilting. The subject of her work is unequivocally feminist: she chooses to work with fabric rather than paint, in reference and reverence to the fact that fiber arts were often the only type of art that women were encouraged to practice for many years throughout history. Conceptually her work focuses on the use of readymade, common material and its elevation to high art; the power of color and shape; and is an authentic connection to the past, both personally and universally. She documents the story of our current world, particularly female narratives often neglected from history. By working within the realm of geometric compositions, Jones creates a universal visual language to tell these stories, using textiles as a reference to issues of domesticity and women’s work.

Jones is represented by Contemporary Art Matters, Columbus, Ohio; the George Gallery, Charleston, South Carolina; Moremen Gallery, Louisville, Kentucky; and has work available though David Richard Gallery, New York, NY. She was selected as an artist-in-residence for Kehinde Wiley’s inaugural class at Black Rock Senegal, and worked there in October 2019. Jones’ solo exhibition, Storytellers, opened in February 2022 at the Contemporary Dayton (Ohio), one of three concurrent solo exhibitions featuring the work of Jones, Odili Donald Odita, and Jeffrey Gibson. She also had her first solo exhibit in New York City at David Richard Gallery that opened in February 2022. Jones is currently an artist-in-residence at Silver Art Projects in New York City.

ENTRY FEES
• Non-members - $15 each piece for up to three pieces.
• Pay online by card when you submit your work.

REQUIREMENTS
• Artwork must be no larger than 48”x48”x48”
• Artwork must be professionally presented, framing is encouraged, but not required. 2D work must be ready to hang with wiring on back. DSA is open to other installation methods, but they must be pre-approved.
• 3D artwork must fit on a pedestal that has a footprint of 24 x 24 inches (or smaller) or sit on the floor.
• Artwork must have been created in the past 3 years.
• Please have a brief statement prepared about how your work correlates to the theme of female ideals, hopes, and experiences.
There will be room on your entry form to include it.
• Artwork must be labelled with artist name, title, and e-mail.
• Artwork must not have been exhibited before at the DSA or virtually through the DSA.
• Artwork may not be picked up before the close of the show.
• Accepted work that differs significantly from submitted image or suffers from poor presentation will be disqualified.
 
ART DELIVERY / RETURN
• Artists maintain responsibility for insuring fine artwork during shipment and/or travel (including U.S. mail delivery) to the DSA. The DSA will acknowledge receipt of work when physically received by appropriate DSA personnel.
• All work selected for the exhibition must arrive ready to install. Works not gallery-ready, or not exhibiting good craftsmanship, may be omitted from the exhibit. Accepted work that differs significantly from the submitted images, or suffers from poor presentation, will be disqualified. Works must be hand delivered or shipped. Exhibited work will remain on display for the duration of the exhibition. Works not claimed within 30 days of the end of the exhibit will become the property of the DSA.
• Shipped Works: Shipped works must be sent in reusable packaging. Artists are responsible for return shipping costs and should include a return label with the shipped artwork or emailed to the director by the close of the show. Works will be returned in the same manner as received by FEDEX/UPS/USPS. Artwork must be received before Sat, January 20st and will be shipped out the week of March 25th.
• In-Person Delivery: Works will be returned in the same manner as received.

LIABILITY & SALES
• The DSA has fine art insurance for work physically inside the gallery. Artists maintain responsibility of insuring work during shipment and travel. Damage caused by the failure of the work itself is not covered. If work has an insurance price of over $500, then any insurance claim must be accompanied by documentation of past sales and/or a professional 3rd party appraisal.
• Please note: DSA does not have constant climate control in its galleries.
• DSA takes NO COMMISSION on sales but donations are welcome. Please price work accordingly or as -Not for Sale-. Do not include shipping in the price of the piece. After sales are completed, the artist will be responsible for coordinating with purchaser to deliver/ship work. Artists may use the High Street Gallery as a meeting point. Donations are always appreciated and help support future programming.

AGREEMENT TO PARTICIPATE
Submitting indicates that you agree with the conditions of entry and exhibit as outlined in these guidelines, and that you agree to make your work available and will ship/deliver it to the gallery should it be selected for exhibit. The DSA may use submitted images and artwork in print and/or digital marketing materials.

The Arts Center in Corvallis, OR annually accepts exhibition proposals from artists nationwide. TAC is currently accepting applications to exhibit in the Main and Corrine Woodman Galleries through December 31, 2023.

It is free to apply. TAC encourages a diverse selection of artists to apply, including artists from historically underrepresented communities. We welcome all artists regardless of citizenship status, color, familial status, gender identity or expression, religious observance, sex, sexual orientation, and sources or level of income.

Artists working in all mediums and genres are encouraged to apply. Artist collectives, organizations and groups are welcome to submit proposals on a single application. Please clearly list all artists involved.

Artists are encouraged, but not required, to display works for sale. The Arts Center’s commission rate is a 50/50 split with the artists. Arrangements for artists with exclusive gallery commitments are possible.

Exhibitions are selected by the Curator and the The Arts Center Exhibition Committee. TAC’s EC is a group of volunteers made up of professional artists and community members. The EC is asked to review all materials submitted, and select artists who show excellence in medium and concept as well as help meet the mission of TAC.

The Art Advocacy Project 2D (commonly known as TAAP 2D) is a one-year on-loan program designed to promote regional artists through the public display of their artworks and provides a means for artwork sales. This project is open to all Colorado artists of two-dimensional media. Selected artworks may be for sale; however, this is not required.

Unique two-dimensional works of art will be showcased in the Loveland Public Library’s Central Galleria in late February 2024. This project is ideal for artists wishing to display their work at any career stage. A wide variety of mediums have been shown through this annual project. Less dominant mediums like fiber, charcoal, mixed media, etc., are encouraged to apply. Applications will be reviewed by a jury panel consisting of Art in Public Places (AIPP) representatives and public volunteers.

Last year’s collaboration with the Loveland Poet Laureate group was so successful that AIPP is doing it again this year. This addition is a poem created specifically in response to the artwork and displayed next to each artwork for the on-loan exhibit at the library. If selected, the artist agrees to work with a poet who will write a poem relating to the artwork chosen. Please note that the selected artist will have a time commitment associated with this project. The artist might be asked to discuss the artwork with a poet (depending on the poet’s creative process). Also, there will be an Artist Talk and Poetry Reading Reception on March 30, 2024, should the selected artist choose to attend.

Selected artworks will be displayed at the Loveland Public Library from late February 2024 until mid to late February 2025. Please do not submit artwork that cannot be available for the entire year.

The Carrollton Center for the Arts is accepting proposals from local and regional professional artists for a one-year public sculpture installation at Neva Lomason Memorial Library near downtown Carrollton, Georgia. The city considers the inclusion of public artworks to be an important addition to the area, enriching the downtown experience for both visitors touring the area and residents.

The selected sculpture will be installed on a 6′ x 6′ exterior concrete pad at the library for a one-year display. The selected artist will receive a $3,000 stipend to cover the lease and transportation of the sculpture and labor, equipment and any other costs of installing and removing the artwork. Sculptures should have a library, reading or books theme or be interesting to children and families. Originality and visual impact will be considered.

Artworks must be durable enough to last one year in an exterior, all-weather environment and not require surveillance or maintenance of any kind. All work must be safe with no sharp edges, loose or easily breakable pieces, easily scalable parts or other hazards that could endanger the public.

Work must be ready for installation and be able to be secured to the concrete pad with 3/8″ to 1/2″ anchor bolts or able to sit safely on the ground with no possibility of tipping. The artist must provide the tools and equipment needed to complete installation and removal of the piece.

Artists must be at least 21 years old and have previous experience with public art pieces. Only pre-existing pieces will be reviewed. City and library staff and an advisory committee will evaluate and select the artwork to be installed.

-A written description of the proposed artwork must include: title, medium, dimensions, weight, installation method and anchoring procedure, theme/concept behind the work and value of work.
*Selected sculpture should not be altered from the original submission description/design without approval of the selection committee. This includes changes in form, color or installation method.
-Describe the process, including how many people other than the artist will be needed, for installing and removing the work. The city may have staff onsite that can help depending on the requirements and scheduling, but the artist is responsible for making sure he or she has enough help to properly install and remove the work.
-Include photographs showing the proposed artwork from multiple angles.
-Provide a CV and short artist biography and/or statement.
-Include at least three images of past installed artworks demonstrating the artist’s ability to execute the current project. This can include a previous installation of the submitted artwork.
-Submit a schedule showing the estimated timeline needed to complete the project including the time needed to transport and install the work.

FfAI is interested in practices that originate or end in the arts but also have broader effects and consequences. We focus on people, projects, groups, and institutions developing new and dynamic definitions of community and connectivity, especially those that foster collectivity.

Individual grants are made to artists, activists, researchers, writers, and others in the visual arts to pursue their research without institutional, governmental, or philanthropic preconditions.

Alternative forms of institutionality in the visual arts, their history, successes, and failures, the redefinition and use of archives, and new practices for the commons remain ongoing concerns.

A juried call for street, documentary, and news photography of and about the people within the county of Los Angeles (inclusive of L.A. City).
A larger-than-life display of photography that will take place in DTLA on April 27, 2024. The location is a football-field-sized parking lot in Chinatown.
Following a juried process, the selected photographers will have bodies of work edited into a video presentation with music, and projected 80 feet wide and three stories high in front of a live audience. Following the big event, the L.A. Public Libraries will screen this presentation once a month for a year in all parts of Los Angeles, with five photographers in attendance to talk with the public afterwards.
