The Schwa Show is a national juried competition recognizing excellence in fine arts and crafts.

Studio 88 is now calling for applications from artists in any discipline who address the challenge of pollution, for a residency in Chiangmai, 11 February to 10 March 2024. Apply by 20 August 2023.

We invite artists from anywhere in the world to shed light on one of the most pressing issues of our time: pollution. Through unique artistic expressions, we seek to raise awareness, provoke dialogue, and inspire meaningful change regarding the detrimental impact of pollution on our planet and its inhabitants. This open call aims to harness the creative force of artists to bring pollution to the forefront of public consciousness and mobilise action towards a sustainable future.

The theme of this residency is very open and it can explore multifaceted aspects of pollution. It could encompass air, water, soil, noise, light, or any other form of pollution affecting our environment and communities. It could seek to examine the causes, consequences, and potential solutions related to pollution. It could also look at complex ways our systems are connected and how we can improve in areas such as urban planning and farming.

This is a juried visual art competition and exhibition that is open to two-dimensional figurative artists (referencing the human figure), who are over the age of 18, working in painting, drawing, printmaking, or fiber.

This year's juror is Nicole M. Santiago. She holds a BFA in studio art from Indiana University and an MFA in painting from the University of New Hampshire. She is a Professor of Art at the College of William and Mary, where she teaches life drawing, drawing, color theory, and 2D design.

Santiago's works consist of semi-autobiographical paintings, drawings, and prints portraying mundane domestic scenes. However, she hints at a more expansive narrative, thinly veiled by the everyday detritus that clutters her painted spaces.

During her career, Santiago has exhibited widely, showing in nearly 140 exhibitions. Her works have been reproduced in many art publications, including The Artist's Magazine, Art New England, INPA (International Painting Annual), and Fine Art Connoisseur. She is the recipient of full-fellowship residencies at the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, VT, and the Ballinglen Artist Foundation in Ballycastle, Ireland. Most recently, Santiago was awarded first prize at the Bethesda Painting Awards in Bethesda, MD.

Santiago will attend the exhibition's opening reception on Saturday, October 28, to give remarks and select prize winners

Application Requirements:

Exhibition inclusions will be juried from digital media, so quality is essential. Artists may submit up to three (3) works for the non-refundable fee of $30. All works entered must have been created within the last five (5) years (no later than 2019).

Images should be 300 dpi JPEG files, no smaller than 5” x 7” in scale.

Artists must be over the age of 18

Accepted entries are 2-dimensional, in painting, drawing, printmaking, or fiber. Sculpture and photography are not accepted. Entries must be completed within the last 5 years (no later than 2019).

We live in a rapidly changing world, from technology to our physical environments, it can feel daunting to try to keep up. For this exhibition, we ask artists to meditate on themes of change through a hopeful lens. Artists are asked to create work that explores ideas of growth, progress, and resilience. Artworks can represent the artist’s personal self-growth or images that relate to growth they see in the world around them. Artworks will feature traditional media such as painting and drawing but alternative approaches to mixed media or fiber arts are also encouraged.

In partnership with the City of Frankfort, the Josephine Sculpture Park is seeking contemporary sculpture artworks for a 2 year outdoor public art exhibit. Frankfort Sculpture Trail is a curated exhibition of outdoor sculpture displayed throughout the heart of downtown Frankfort.

Rockwall Art League (RAL) is proud to present the 23rd Annual Juried Fine Art Show & Sale. This is the signature event of the year. It celebrates contemporary art in a variety of mediums. This year we have expanded from a local show to now including artists that reside all over Texas and Oklahoma.

This show allows artists to be seen by art collectors looking to purchase art for their homes and businesses in Rockwall County, which was named the richest county in the state of Texas in 2022.

The Dayton Society of Artists (DSA) is pleased to present LITHO-LINO-MONO-MORE 2023. All printmakers, 18 years or older, living, working, or attending school in the state of Ohio are eligible for entry. All art submitted must have printmaking incorporated in their production process: woodcut, etching, engraving, lithography, screen printing, etc. Photography, giclee prints, and digital work are not eligible unless they have additional printmaking elements. Traditional and non-traditional approaches are welcome. $600 will be awarded in prizes. This exhibition will be in the High Street Gallery as well as online at daytondsa.org/LLMM2023.

REQUIREMENTS
- Artists must be 18 years of age or older and live, work, or attend school in Ohio.
- 2D Artwork must be no larger than 60in tall x 48in wide.
- 3D artwork must fit on a pedestal that has a footprint of 24 x 24 inches (or smaller) or sit on the floor
- Artwork must be professionally presented. 2D work must be ready to hang with wiring on back. DSA is open to other installation methods, but they must be pre-approved.
- Artwork must be labelled on the back, or underneath, with your name, title, and price
- Artwork must not have been exhibited before at the DSA
- Artwork may not be picked up before the close of the show
- Submit up to three (3) printmaking works. These works must be finished new work or work made within the last five years. Object details are required for each work submitted: Title, Year, Medium, Dimensions, Price (If not for sale, its insurance value).
- Accepted work that differs significantly from submitted images, or suffers from poor presentation, will be disqualified.

ART DELIVERY
-Artists must cover the cost to transport the artwork to and from the gallery. All work selected for the exhibition must arrive ready to install. Works not gallery-ready, or not exhibiting good craftsmanship, may be omitted from the exhibit. Works must be hand delivered or shipped. Shipped works must be sent in reusable packaging. Works will be returned in the same manner as received. Exhibited work will remain on display for the duration of the exhibition. Works not claimed within 30 days of the end of the exhibit will become the property of the DSA.

- The DSA maintains fine art insurance for work located physically in the DSA gallery.
- Insurance claims where fine artwork has been valued in excess of $500 must be accompanied by documentation of comparable sales price for fine artwork claiming artists and/or a professional third-party appraisal.
- The DSA does not have climate control in the galleries.
- DSA takes NO COMMISSION on sales, but donations are appreciated and help support future programming. Do not include shipping in the price of the piece. After sales are completed, artist is responsible for coordinating with purchaser to deliver/ship work. Artists may use the High Street Gallery as a meeting point.

AGREEMENT TO PARTICIPATE
Submitting the entry form indicates that you agree with the conditions of entry and exhibit as outlined in these guidelines, and that you agree to make your work available and will ship/deliver it to the gallery should it be selected for exhibit. The DSA may use submitted images and artwork in print and/or digital marketing materials.

The public art installation at the Taft Street Garage should reflect the rich history and culture of Lafayette and the spirit of the University of Louisiana. The installation should also focus on the city's rich musical traditions, which have attracted musicians from all over the world. The full southern 200 foot façade of the parking garage, which overlooks the Pride of Acadiana Marching Band’s practice field, will serve as the backdrop for the installation.

The installation should be designed to be visually appealing, instructive about the city's rich musical heritage, highlight the field’s use as a musical performance area for UL’s Pride of Acadiana Marching Band, and may also address functional considerations at the site such as the need for shade, seating, or light. Various media are welcome, including but not limited to murals, relief sculpture, printed media, light, kinetic elements, etc.

The theme of this show will be one in which AI software is used as a primary artistic element of creation in the artwork but yields a final visual manifestation that appears as if it was created in a traditional process.

The Wassaic Project is currently holding our annual Open Call for our 2024 Summer Exhibition for artists of all mediums, including: 2D work, sculpture, video, new media, site-specific installation, performance, text, poems, essays, publication-specific work, etc. If selected, your work will be showcased alongside a diverse range of pieces and performances in and around historic Wassaic and Maxon Mills, as well as in a printed publication. The Wassaic Project's 2024 Summer Exhibition will be free and open to the public every weekend from May 18 through September 14, 2024. Artists interested in creating a site-specific installation for the 2024 Summer Exhibition are also eligible for an Exhibitions Fellowship to help realize their work. Fellows will be offered a no-fee residency for 1 - 4 weeks in April or May 2024. REVIEW PROCESS
Applicants are evaluated by our Co-Directors — Eve, Bowie, and Jeff — and our Residency Director, Will. Artists are selected based on the quality of the work and how well a given piece fits alongside other pieces selected for the show.
Don’t overthink this — there’s no one thing we’re looking for, and we’re always open to creative new uses of Maxon Mills as an exhibition space.

We accept four types of proposals for our 2024 Summer Programming: ready-to-hang work, site-specific installations, temporary installations/performances, and publication-specific works. Your application can include multiple proposals.
For all proposals, include:
A formal description of the work you would like to show.
A three-sentence conceptual description of the work you would like to show or your artistic practice more generally.
A note about any special circumstances you anticipate around the installation of your work. We have limited equipment available, so we need to know in advance if you require anything specific.
For ready-to-hang work proposals:

No separate application is needed for the Exhibitions Fellowship, and acceptance of the fellowship — should it be offered — is entirely optional. An Exhibition of Contemporary Quilting
Today’s quilts, quilted clothing and objects have evolved to include a wide range of functional, decorative and artistic styles.
Whether experimenting with creating or dyeing fabrics, incorporating experimental materials, or conceptually challenging the ideas of quilting, today’s quilts are not the ones we remember from childhood. This show will celebrate contemporary quilting in all of its forms today.

Artists are invited to submit original artwork for the Not Your Mother's Quilt exhibit at the Kavanagh Gallery of Fine Line Creative Arts Center, St. Charles, Illinois. The Fine Line Creative Arts Center is located in the Fox River Valley, approximately one hour west of Chicago, Illinois. The show will run from October 12 - November 15, 2023.

Wassaic Project 2024 Summer Residency Program Open Call

The Wassaic Project accepts 1 – 4 month proposals for our Summer Residency program (June – September) for artists and writers. Artists-in-Residence are selected by a review committee composed of the Wassaic Project Co-Directors, Director of Artistic Programming, and professionals in the field. They will be selected based on the quality of their work, commitment to their practice, and ability to interact positively with the community at large. The Wassaic Project cultivates and supports community for emerging and professional contemporary artists, writers and other creatives. Housed in historic, landmark buildings, the residency program offers nine artists each month the opportunity to live and work in the heart of a rural community. The Wassaic Project seeks artists working in a diverse range of media who want to produce, explore, challenge, and expand on their current art-making practices, while participating in a community-based arts organization. Our program provides time and space for individual creative development, planned group nature-based activities, technical resource sharing, and critiques. We aim to create an experience that fosters personal and creative growth, develop medium-specific skills, and connect more deeply with nature.

Lake Cowichan on Vancouver Island, Canada, is one of North America’s most beautiful natural surroundings. It is a small town on a lake surrounded by forests and mountains. To the west, it is a 45-minute drive to the island’s west side with the Pacific Ocean and old-growth forests, and to the east, you can go to Salt Spring Island, Victoria, a ferry ride to the metropolitan city of Vancouver, and many lakes and forests. Each with its own charm, we have a Mediterranean climate with warm sunny summers from May-October and wet but warm winters. There is no better retreat in Canada.

Mount Dora Center for the Arts invites all artists to participate in a juried art exhibit/competition that explores ethnic diversity in art. One of our most basic human needs, warmth can signify comfort, security, intimacy, and community connection. Depictions of sun-drenched landscapes and intimate cozy interiors, heartfelt portraits and loving embraces, plush soft sculpture and tactile works, warm wearable art, multi-sensory installations, or nostalgic subjects and family traditions are all welcome. The artwork in this show should envelop the viewer and induce a sense of comfort, security, and contentment.

International ‘FL3TCH3R Exhibit’ at ETSU’s Reece Museum issues call for entries

(July 21, 2023) Artists who speak through their work on the issues of the day are invited to enter the 2023 “FL3TCH3R Exhibit: Social & Politically Engaged Art” at East Tennessee State University.

This international juried exhibition will run from Oct. 2-Dec. 8 at the Reece Museum. Now in its 11th year, this event represents the spirit of social and political movements of the U.S. and the world.

The 2023 juror is educator, artist and activist Adam DelMarcelle. After the loss of his brother, Joey, to a fentanyl overdose, DelMarcelle used traditional means of revolutionary art action and resistance, including “poster-bombing” communities with screen-printed materials. When police removed this work, he turned to large-scale building projections, casting 80-foot-tall images onto the sides of buildings in his hometown. In 2018, he projected one such image onto the headquarters of Purdue Pharma, the makers of OxyContin®.

As an educator and artist, DelMarcelle travels widely, sharing his message of the power of art to disrupt, resist and document human existence. His work is included in numerous major collections throughout the U.S. The assistant professor of graphic design at Wilson College in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, holds a BFA from the Pennsylvania College of Art and Design and an MFA from the Vermont College of Fine Art.

This year’s “FL3TCH3R Exhibit” has no specific theme for entries except a general focus on socially and politically engaged art, although the display will highlight visual works depicting “protection of human rights,” according to co-directors Barb, Wayne and Carrie Dyer. The Dyers established the exhibit in memory of their son and brother, Fletcher H. Dyer, a senior ETSU Department of Art and Design student who was in a fatal motorcycle accident in 2009.

“As an artist and graphic designer, Fletcher’s passion for art was a vehicle that allowed him to mirror his passion and marry it to his concern for social and political issues through visual means,” says Fletcher’s mom, Barb Dyer, a children’s advocacy attorney. “Fletcher was always curious and aware of current events. He experimented in innovative ways to create works that investigate contemporary social issues. The ‘FL3TCH3R Exhibit’ aspires to honor Fletcher’s legacy by providing a venue for artists to exhibit artworks that continue the dialogue.”

A portion of the entry fees fund the Fletcher Hancock Dyer BFA Graphic Design Scholarship, which is awarded annually to an ETSU Art and Design student.

The call for entries is open through Aug. 23, with an extended deadline of Aug. 31 for an additional fee. A non-refundable fee of $40 is required for submission of up to three entries, with an additional fee of $10 per artwork/title over three. Submissions will be accepted in the categories of audio/sound, ceramics, digital, fiber, glass, graphic design, jewelry/metals, mixed media (2D and 3D), painting, performance/installation (via video), photography, printmaking, book arts, sculpture, video/film, medical/health care and other.

LAV is a program of artistic residencies within Espacio Lavadero, and was born as a support to the current artistic sector of international emerging contemporary art.

LAV Artist Residency is a project that aims to accommodate artistic creation in situ in the city of Granada, offering accommodation and a space for creation and exhibition based on coexistence and community.

The residence is proposed as a laboratory for experimental creation, as an exhibition and informative place. A space where any creator feels comfortable, whether they are visual artists, musicians or writers.

LAV’s objective is to provide a place for creation and exhibition through activities of Espacio Lavadero, such as talks, presentations or exhibitions, where they can make their work known in the Spanish context.

The PleinAir Salon Art Competition is a monthly online art competition that awards over $50,000 each year. There is $2,050 in Cash Prizes awarded each month, and $22,000 awarded at the Annual Competition each May. Each of the 23 monthly winners are included in the judging for the 13th Annual PleinAir Salon where we award the Grand Prize winner a check for $15,000 and feature their painting on the cover of PleinAir Magazine. The Annual Awards will be presented live at the Plein Air Convention & Expo in May 2024.

Because this competition is created by PleinAir magazine, which features not only plein air paintings, but also studio paintings, all types of paintings are eligible and do not need to have been completed in plein air. As we know, many studio paintings start with plein air sketches, and many plein air painters paint figures and still life. Our interest is in rewarding great paintings.

The Art Center of Corpus Christi seeks entries for a juried art exhibition, October 6-28, 2023 in Corpus Christi, TX. Best of Show - $500 and a solo exhibit alongside Dimension LI in 2024. Awards per category: 1st $100, 2nd $75, 3rd $50. Categories: Works on Canvas, Works on Paper, Photography, Mixed Media/Fiber, and 3D/Sculpture. Artists 18 years and older, living in the Continental United States, may enter original works of art completed within the last 2 years and not previously shown in an Art Center exhibit. Maximum size for 2D work is 72" in any direction, including frame, and 3D work must be manageable by 2 people. Open to all mediums, except for video and installation. $25 Member / $30

Request for proposals:
The Appalachian Center for Craft (ACC) is pleased to receive submission proposals from artists/craftspeople and curators for exhibitions for 2024 and 2025.

ACC Galleries exhibit traditional and contemporary fine craft by emerging, mid- career, and established craft artists. We are seeking well-developed themes that highlight mastery in craftsmanship, featuring new work, pushing the boundaries of craft. Exhibitions can be individual or group shows. If applying as a curator or on behalf of a group, we ask that one person act as a liaison. This will entail collecting paperwork from all parties exhibiting, communicating with the group the requirements and deadlines of the ACC, etc.

At the ACC we are interested in cultivating and showcasing work that strengthens the role of craft in contemporary culture and to create a space for craft artists and curators to experiment freely, beyond their usual craft custom or practice. Artists and curators will be given the opportunity to present work which may not be easily presented in conventional craft venues. Experimentation may be in the areas of style, technique and/or concept. Thus the definition/expectations of contemporary craft may be further explored and investigated, and challenging conversations may ensue.

The selection committee will be looking for bodies of work/installations that are cohesive, well- considered, informative, challenge the artist, the curator, the viewing public, and which promote craft and contemporary craft practices. Exhibitions are two months in duration and a $200 honorarium per exhibition is offered to help support shipping/delivery of artwork. Artwork is insured while on the premises.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Submissions must include the following:

Letter of Intent/Proposal:

• Clear description of theme/concept and the type of work defined by medium, technique, or function (maximum of 500 words).

• Please describe your current artistic practice, the proposed body of work, installation and overall intent or concept of the exhibition.

• If applicable, describe how this body of work or installation differs from your current practice.

• A list of artists and justification for their inclusion if the proposal is curatorial or a group exhibition.

• Proposed or working title of exhibition.

• Please also note the 3 different gallery space layouts (see attached files). Note any preference as to the gallery space you would choose for your proposal.

Support Material:

• A list of works to be exhibited (include artist, title, medium, dimensions, date of work) or if not yet created, a list/description of what is planned for inclusion.

• Support material which can include any materials relevant to the application, images (minimum 10, maximum of 20), promotional materials, reviews and catalogs.

• Image requirements are as follows: JPEG or PNG format, maximum of 1024 x 768 resolution.

• A list of the support material provided including the title, medium, dimensions, and date.

• A curriculum vitae of the principal organizer/curator or artist.

• In preparation for the application we suggest that you have a CV that reflects previous exhibitions, educational background, honors & awards, permanent collections & commissions and residencies.

Proposal evaluation in based on:

• The artistic merit of the exhibition proposed

• The quality of the applicants (or group’s) work to date

• The ability of the artist/curator to bring the exhibition to fruition

• Applications will only be accepted by email or through www.WeTransfer.com
