Lexington Detention Center Public Art

The Lexington-Fayette Urban Co. Government’s Public Arts Commission invites professional and practicing artists and artist/design teams, residing in Kentucky, Indiana, or Ohio, to submit qualifications to propose a permanent, site-specific outdoor artwork for the green space located at the Old Frankfort Pike entrance to the Lexington Detention Center grounds.
Lexington-Fayette Urban Co. Government’s Percent for Art program provides 1% of the total budgeted cost for capital improvement projects to be dedicated to the purpose of funding public art on city property.
A unique facility, the Lexington Detention Center is juxtaposed with the more rural area of picturesque horse farms and is located along a National Scenic Byway, which links one of Lexington’s distinctive entertainment districts, with business parks, McConnell Springs Park, and a beautiful and historic surrounding landscape.

In partnership with the City of Frankfort, Josephine Sculpture Park is seeking a qualified artist or artist team to design and install a mixed-media mosaic/mural art installation on the interior back wall of a 4 story stairwell as part of a new transit center and parking garage in downtown Frankfort KY. The all-inclusive budget for the installation is up to $70,000.
This project is part of a multi-year public art initiative, installing sculptures and murals throughout the city in an effort to make Frankfort the “Public Art Capital of Kentucky.” Eye-catching art has transformed empty walls and infrastructure into public canvases, showcasing what’s unique about Frankfort. This artwork provides a sense of place, inviting people to slow down and appreciate the city's cultural heritage and history. $25 for first entry/$10 for each additional entry. You may enter up to 20 total. Payment is non-refundable and does not guarantee acceptance. ELIGIBILITY
This call is open to artists worldwide, both amateur and professional. Work that has been selected for previous exhibits with Art Fluent will not be considered.
RULES
Work that is copied or done under the guidance of an instructor is not eligible. Open to ALL fine art mediums -now including film/video (oil, acrylic, watermedia, pastel, drawing, printmaking, mixed media, photography, sculpture, fiber, wood, ceramics, film/video, digital art- AI will not be accepted).
SELECTION PROCESS
Director’s choice. Each show is curated and juried by Creative Director, Amy Matteson Neill along with an anonymous committee of jurors. Please note, there is no personal feedback given by jurors.
ENTRY PROCEDURE
Entry is done through CaFÉ, a web-based service that allows artists to upload images and organize their artwork for submissions to galleries. To apply for a call, you must leave our website and go to the CaFÉ website at www.callforentry.org where you can create a FREE artist account. You will add your details and upload your images to CaFÉ and then you can submit work to NOIR. If you have any questions, please contact us at [email protected] we are happy to walk you through the process.
MEDIA PREPARATION
Please only submit properly cropped images of your work that are in focus. We have a free resource for artists for tips on how to get high quality images of your work. Visit www.art-fluent.com/resources for a free download. CaFÉ also offers tips on their blog which you can find here www.callforentry.org/photographing-artwork/.
All images must be in JPEG/JPG format using CaFÉ guidelines. The image size must be 1,200 pixels or greater on the longest side and 400 pixels on the shortest side. Maximum file size is 5 mb.
Accepted video formats include MOV, MP4, WMV. Aspect ratio 4:3 or 16:9, resolution minimum 640x480, maximum 1920 x1080, bit rate recommended above 240 kbps, recommended frame rate 30 fps. File size must be under 100 MB. If your video work has been selected for the exhibit, we kindly request that you provide us with the file link via Vimeo.
NOTIFICATION
Notification will be done by email, everyone who submits will be notified of the juror’s selections. If for any reason you do not hear from us by the notification date, please check the filters in your email account. Notification emails are sent to the email on file with CaFÉ.
SALES
All sales inquiries will be directed to the artist’s website and/or contact information. For any artwork that is sold, the artists receive 100% of the sale.
GIVING BACK
A portion of the proceeds from the entry fees is donated to organizations committed to the arts and supporting artists.
REQUIRED FORMS
Cash awards over $600 are subject to federal income tax withholding within the United States. A W-9 form must be filled out by the winner and submitted to Art Fluent, Inc.
REGULATIONS
By entering our calls for art through CaFÉ you are agreeing to be added to Art Fluent's email list for forthcoming artist opportunities. By submitting images, you agree that the images are your own work, nothing copied, you own all rights to the images, and you take full responsibility for the content of all images, including the likeness of recognizable individuals. The actual artwork will remain the property of the artist, our mission is to promote artists and their work. Should your work be accepted, you grant Art Fluent the right to reproduce your image on our website, on social media, and where appropriate to help promote further online opportunities. Art Fluent will always credit you and your copyright wherever feasible. We will not use your image for any other purpose without the artist’s permission.

Reinventing Central City is a public art project with the goal to illuminate the rich history and promote community gatherings at the newly renovated Central City Park. The park was established in 1996 with a large gazebo that brings the community together with many activities, including live music, poetry, plays, exercise, family events, and so much more. The park surrounding the gazebo has been transformed with lighting, landscaping, and new seating. Public art in the form of a pair of sculptures is the final adornment for the park.
Central City in Huntington, WV is a lively business district featuring a farmers' market, many local businesses focused on arts and antiques, and annual events. Central City was once a city that was formed around the Industrial Revolution to bring industry to the mostly residential Huntington Area. Central to Huntington and Kenova the main cities in 1890s, it was a place where the railroad brought raw materials to be transformed into glassware, wood products (barrels, bungs, crates, veneers, and even portrait frames), Fesenmeier Brewery, Heiner's Bakery, and many other small businesses that grew to support the population. Acts of Repair: Loss and Damage seeks three artists and/or curators, (applying as individuals or as collectives) working within any medium to undertake new or existing artistic research projects engaging with the issue of loss and damage caused by the climate crisis.
Eligibility: Artists and/or curators (applying as individuals or as collectives) can apply from anywhere in the world. Applications from practitioners representing the Most Affected People and Areas (MAPA) —those at the forefront of intersectional experiences of the climate crisis in the global South and North— are particularly welcome.
Each selected participant or collective will receive a stipend of £10,000, tailored mentoring, support to engagement with the issue of loss and damage alongside other like-minded cultural practitioners as well as a global community of climate change researchers, policymakers, advocates, activists, and negotiators, working on Loss and Damage.

Artwork for the new RI Office of State Medical Examiners will be commissioned by the Department of Capital Asset, Management and Maintenance (DCAMM) on behalf of the RI Department of Health (RIDOH) and the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts (RISCA) through Rhode Island’s Public Art Law, which mandates that 1% of all state capital construction and renovation funds be allocated to the purchase and maintenance of public art. Through this program, the State recognizes that “public art creates a more humane environment: one of distinction, enjoyment, and pride for all citizens.”
Suitable artwork might:
Be calming, peaceful, soothing, familiar; feel homey; create a sense of the familiar, of belonging or connection, perhaps through the use of imagery that evokes Rhode Island or New England;
Be a series of works that connect the spaces;
Offer texture, such as textiles, weaving, collage or quilting, to alleviate the interior finishes which are very plain; or,
Be sound-based. While this Call is primarily for visual works, an interdisciplinary approach that combines audio and visual elements is of interest.

For our purposes, a portal can be an architectural feature (gate, window, doorway, mirror, tunnel) that frames or isolates or adds dimension to an image. In a fictional sense, a portal can become a magical doorway through time and space. Alone or in combination, they hold unlimited creative possibilities for photographers.
For “Portals: Windows, Mirrors, and Doors”, we're looking for images that use these devices in intriguing ways. All capture methods and processes are welcome.
We are very pleased that Roula Seikaly will jury this exhibition. She will select 35 images for exhibition in our Middlebury, Vermont gallery and up to 40 more for our Online Gallery. All 75 images will be reproduced in the exhibition catalog.

The Art of Food is an exhibition exploring the intersection of food, art, and culture in a rich and universal theme. Food offers a viewpoint through which we can express human creativity, history, and traditions through the essence of nourishment. Consider the culinary arts and how various cultures use food as symbols in their meals. From decadent desserts, fast food, and home-cooked dinners, imagine food as a medium for social commentary conveyed through the language of food. Ask yourself, are we what we eat?
The Art of Food is an international juried group exhibition open to artists ages 18 and older. BIMA Artist’s Book Residency Grant for Indigenous Artists

The Bainbridge Island Museum of Art Artist’s Book Residency Grant for Indigenous Artists is a ten week residency for North American Indigenous artists to produce a limited edition book work. Working intensively in our studios, artists print and bind their own books, and are encouraged to create an edition size no larger than 100 and no smaller than 50.
The grant includes a stipend of $350/week, up to $1000 for materials, full travel reimbursement, free onsite housing, and 24/7 studio access. WSW provides technical advice; training on new equipment, techniques, and materials; and production assistance. The contract stipulates that 20% of the edition goes to WSW’s archive, exhibition, and display copies; 20% of the edition goes to the artist; and 60% of the edition goes to general sales.

BAJO EL OLIVO International Artist Residency is situated on private land (2136 sqm) in the quiet annex of a mediterranean villa that houses three furnished guest rooms. ‘CASA MIA’ is easily accessible by car and nestled in the small community of ‘Urbanizacion San Jorge’; situated on the outskirts of the pueblo (small village) of ‘Alhaurín el Grande’; just (25) minutes inland from the city of Malaga and very close distance to Malaga Airport. We are also in close vicinity (about 25 minutes) to the beautiful sandy beaches of the Costa del Sol and the vibrant villages of Fuengirola, Marbella, Ojén and Mijas.
‘Bajo el Olivo’ is an experimental residency program dedicated to artists who are looking for a private space to think, write and create during these exceptional times we are living on this planet. This artistic retreat is designed as a thinking space in nature and seeks participants that are seriously thinking about an ecology of care, empathy and community building, while the world is earnestly searching for social political and economic change with a posthuman approach to social engagement, social and spatial practices. We foster a forward thinking into the future with an affirmative ethical stance.

Our Mission:
We are an annual art + technology festival, year-round exhibition/experience space, and non-profit organization based in Santa Fe, New Mexico USA. We support 21st Century art making and innovative creatives. Our festival, educational programs, and exhibition space give the public year-round access to immersive and expansive art experiences.
The Festival is the result of a collaboration between Parallel Studios, its partners throughout the city and the many volunteers who invest their time to support this project.

Women's Studio Workshop Studio Residency Grant

The Studio Residency Grant is a six- to eight-week residency for artists to create new work in any of our studio disciplines: intaglio, letterpress, papermaking, screenprinting, photography, or ceramics (facilities reopen 2025). WSW invites applications from artists at any stage in their careers.
This grant includes a stipend of $350/week, up to $500 for materials used during the residency, up to $250 for travel within the Continental US, free onsite housing, and 24/7 studio access. WSW can also provide technical advice and production assistance.
This residency has a two-step jury process: a rotating, impartial jury selects the finalists and then WSW applies for NEA funding for the chosen projects.

The Governor’s Capitol Art Exhibition is a biennial juried exhibit that celebrates the work of Wyoming artists. The exhibition was established in 2000 under an initiative by Governor Geringer and is organized by the Wyoming State Museum and the Wyoming Arts Council.
This exhibition is the primary avenue for the state museum to acquire modern Wyoming art for its Capitol and permanent collections. The art for the Capitol collection is selected by the State’s five elected officials and representatives from other state agencies. While the museum’s curators select purchase awards for the Museum’s permanent art collection. All other artwork in the exhibition is available for sale to the general public.

Olbrich Botanical Gardens in Madison, WI illuminates 16-acres of lush gardens and a glass conservatory brimming with tropical plants for GLEAM, an annual public art exhibition featuring large-scale light installations. "Analog Realities" is an upcoming exhibition that aims to explore the complexities surrounding the nature of image-making through the lens of analog photography and alternative-style photography.
We are especially interested in how the intentionality of this slower, analog process affects the relationship to the work itself. This complex interplay invites viewers to consider not just what the image shows, but also what it is, thereby enriching our understanding of what an image can be.

Submission Guidelines
Eligibility:
Artists 18 years and older are eligible to submit.
Submissions must be original artwork created within the last two years.
Artwork must not have been previously exhibited at Cultivate Gallery.
Media:
We are particularly interested in 2D works and work that may be displayed or installed on the floor, hung from the ceiling, or utilize natural light.
The focus is on alternative and film photography techniques. Interdisciplinary practices are welcome.
Number of Works:
Artists may submit up to 5 works for consideration.

High-resolution digital images (JPEGs preferred) of each piece of work.
Image list including title, dimensions, medium, and year.

The studios are located on the lower level of our building at 92 Plymouth Street in Dumbo, Brooklyn and range in size from 250 to 300 square feet. The program does not provide living space.
