For many years I painted from observation, often of still life motifs in interior spaces. As I would wend my way through the process the paintings would often get more and more distilled to the point of abstraction. At a certain point I stopped painting from the motif but the still life and interior space would often emerge through the process of painting without me having planned it, as it does here.
