When I began to paint again a few years after back surgery, I luxuriated in the sensuality of oil paint. In Blue Depth, I worked directly off the collage by the same name, but I used thin layers of paint to create a rich and luminous surface which allowed for the space to be mysterious and evocative in contrast to the much flatter space of the collage. I like to play with edges. In the painting the bottom edge and upper right hand corner are slightly different from those in the collage.
