Second piece from a series based on tree bark observed during daily walks. This work uses the rich texture of bark in multiple ways, layering and multiplying them so that they transform wood into marble. It took a long time to reach the final version of this picture. The breakthrough moment came when I created the uneven egg/stone shape - something with different overtones depending on your state of mind. Pleasingly calming like a stone that you turn in your hand in a mindful moment? Or an egg from a fairy tale with a sinister twist, hatching a giant who will eat you whole or a goblin that will sit on your chest forever. I think it must feature in future pieces, I love it so much.
