Each month Artwork Archive continues to gather the best artist opportunities for you.

No more wondering about where you can find residencies, upcoming exhibitions, or grants — we have you covered. This month, we rounded up some exciting artist opportunities including a National Watercolor Exhibition, a Competition for Women Artists, a few virtual artist residencies, and much, much more —all with October deadlines.

RAA&M National 2021

Rockport Art Association & Museum (RAA&M) in Rockport, Massachusetts announces a call to artists for a national juried art exhibition, December 4-31, 2021. Over $5,000 in Prize money to be awarded. Juror: Teresa Oaxaca. Artists need not be members of RAA&M. Images should be submitted/uploaded by individual artists July 1 - October 1, 2021, on the smarterentry.com site. Up to 3 entries: $35 for RAA&M members and $45 for non-members.

TITANS Art Exhibition 

The Tennessee Titans, in conjunction with The Fort Houston Artisan Support Project, call for artists of all media to submit up to (3) pieces each for a three-day art exhibition in December 2021. This event will take place in Nashville, TN, and feature artwork selected in addition to interactive installations and performances. Submissions of all types of media are highly encouraged.

Work submitted should reflect an intersection of Art, Football and Nashville. Team colors, logos, photography and the stadium are all encouraged as inspiration but not mandatory. We want to proudly celebrate your artistic license in the work. Take chances and push the work. That’s where the magic happens. While a literal approach is not necessary, it must be apparent that your work is Titans themed or related.

National Watercolor Exhibition

Mark Arts in Wichita, Kansas announces a call to artists for its National Watercolor Exhibition, December 10, 2021 - January 29, 2022. Mark Arts is proud to offer enticing cash awards to attract leading artists from across the country. $3,000 in Cash Awards will be awarded and numerous Patron Purchase Awards are anticipated. Juror: Stephen Zhang. Open to all artists living and working in the United States, both amateur and professional. The National Watercolor Exhibition is a popular exhibition for leading watercolorists across the country and is enjoyed by the Wichita community and collectors. $30 entry fee for two works.

SculptureWalk

SculptureWalk in Sioux Falls, SD seeks entries for an outdoor exhibit, May 14th, 2022 - May, 2023. The SculptureWalk Guiding Principle - To be the highest quality, most professional, financially strong, artist-friendly, year-round outdoor sculpture program in the United States. The sculptures are owned by the sculptors and loaned to the exhibit for a year. All sculptors selected will receive a $1,500 honorarium. Each year Sculpture Walk also awards best in show prizes based on artistic merit, this is judged by 8-10 sculptors participating in the exhibit, Best in Show will receive $2,000 and nine Best in Show runners up will receive $1,000. At the end of the year, the people's choice sculpture will be purchased at a value not to exceed $20,000. $25 entry fee.

12th Annual Tapped: Works by Artists and their Current or Former Instructor

The Cincinnati-based non-profit arts organization and gallery, Manifest, invites visual artists and designers to submit works of art in any media, any genre/style, and any size. Artists will seek out an instructor who has been a key teacher to them or whose work they particularly respect and 'tap' them to participate in this project submission. Submission to this exhibit may be initiated by either party. $40 for up to 4 entries. $5 per additional entry.

The Wausau Museum of Contemporary Art in Wausau, Wisconsin announces a call to artists for a juried art exhibition, November 4 - December 31, 2021. Over $7,500 in cash and prizes. Juror: Peter Trippi. We want to see everything in any medium by artists residing in the US 18 years and older. $50 entry fee.

Submissions can range from the most traditional to the most conceptual, abstract, or experimental of any media addressing this theme.

Primal Disposition / Calls & Submissions 

Primal Disposition seeks to showcase works of art that are raw, emotive, primitive, earthen, sexual, sensory, confrontational, instinctual. We are also looking for work that is primal in the materials used: foundational, basic, primary colors, elemental, and/or textured.

We accept works from emerging, mid-career, and/or professional artists. Work should somehow relate to the theme of the show.

“Primal Disposition” In-Person opening reception party will be held Saturday, October 16th, at 6 PM. Special live performance or DJ will accompany the event.

Contemporary Art Gallery Online Announces an International Call for Artists to Participate in the 8th Annual 2021 “ALL Animal” Art Competition & Exhibition

Contemporary Art Gallery Online has opened the “ALL Animal” Art Competition and Exhibition. Entries are accepted from September 6th, 2021, to October 3rd, 2021. Contemporary Art Gallery Online encourages entries from all 2D and 3D artists regardless of their experience or education in the art field. An exhibition of all entrants will be held online from October 6th to November 2nd, 2021. Artists should submit their best representational and non-representational art. This competition will be judged within three categories: Paintings/Drawings, Photography/Digital Art, and Mixed Media/3-Dimensional Art. Competition Results posted: October 18th, 2021.

Submissions can range from the most traditional to the most conceptual, abstract, or experimental of any media addressing this theme.

2021 Redmond Lights Call / Calls & Submissions  

Artists are invited to submit proposals to provide new or existing temporary illuminated artworks as part of Redmond Lights in Redmond, Washington. Installations can include illuminated two- or three-dimensional, multi-media works that celebrate Redmond’s diverse community and various traditions of light and joy. Project/installation proposals must be original to the artist, although this can include existing work(s) by the artist. Artwork must be waterproof and weatherproof. This year Redmond Lights will take place over four weeks and installations must be able to remain installed throughout the entire month of December into the first week of January. Awards will be granted up to $3000

2022 Embracing Our Differences International Art Exhibit Celebrating Diversity

The centerpiece of Embracing Our Differences is an outdoor juried art exhibit featuring 50 billboard size images created by local, national, and international artists and writers. The display reflects the artists' interpretations of the theme "enriching lives through diversity." The exhibit is displayed annually at Bayfront Park in downtown Sarasota. The winning artworks combine a deep understanding of both medium and message.

2022 International Art Exhibit Celebrating Diversity / Calls & Submissions 

Embracing Our Differences is seeking submissions for an outdoor juried art exhibit featuring 50 billboard size images created by local, national, and international artists and writers. The display reflects the artists’ and writers’ interpretations of the theme “enriching lives through diversity.” The exhibit is displayed annually at Bayfront Park in downtown Sarasota and will be on display from January 19 – April 10, 2022. Awards are given for categories of “Best-in-Show Adult,” “Best-in-Show Student,” and “People’s Choice” categories totaling $3000. A $1000 award is also given for Best Quotation.

Wintertide Light Art Experience; Installations Wanted / Calls & Submissions 

The Port Angeles Fine Arts Center seeks proposals for temporary or permanent light-based installations and artworks for installation in Webster’s Woods Sculpture Park, Port Angeles, WA. Existing pieces, as well as proposals for new works, will be considered.

PICKING UP THE PIECES - Collage Artists of America’s Annual Juried International Open Virtual Exhibit

Collage Artists of America (CAA) is accepting entries for “Picking Up the Pieces – An Annual Juried International Open Virtual Exhibit” launching November 1 - 30, 2021. We encourage artists to take this opportunity to showcase their collage skills while reflecting upon the past year and looking to brighter futures ahead.

CAA is an unincorporated non-profit organization founded in 1988 by nine Los Angeles-area women artists. Meetings are held five times a year featuring renowned guest artists in addition to stimulating workshops and juried exhibitions.  It celebrates the art of collage, both analog and digital, has over 200 members nationwide, boasts over 10,400 members on Facebook and supports an annual scholarship for a deserving high school or college student.

National Parks of the United States

R Gallery in Boulder, CO announces a call to artists for a permanent online photography exhibition. Seeking photography, either film or digital, of any of the 62 US National Parks. $20 entry fee.

R Gallery is building a permanent online exhibit that will feature images from ALL 62 US National Parks. These images will be for sale on our website and in our downtown Boulder art gallery. Selected artists will give R Gallery the rights to sell prints and artists will receive 50% of the profits for each sale. R Gallery will also create a book using these photos and promoting the exhibit and sale of prints.

Artists are invited to submit original artwork for the “National Parks” exhibit. In this exhibit, we are seeking photographic images, either film or digital, in all styles. The images must have been taken in or of one of the 62 US National Parks and not previously used in any commercial publication. A portion of the profit from print and book sales will go to the National Park Foundation.

Public Art Exhibition / Calls & Submissions 

The Port Angeles Arts Council invites artists living on the Olympic Peninsula (Clallam, Jefferson, Mason, and Grays Harbor counties) to submit entries to the Art on the Town public art exhibition.

Our mission is to bring an ongoing and ever­changing art exhibit to downtown Port Angeles. Art on the Town is a year-long outdoor exhibition in the heart of downtown Port Angeles. Since its inception, 40 artworks valued in excess of $330,000 have been purchased or commissioned through the exposure provided by Art on the Town. The outdoor venue will showcase selected artists’ work in the downtown waterfront, sidewalks, and pocket park areas.

Art on the Town promotes multi-faceted galleries with scheduled guided tours and Second Saturday gallery openings and receptions. Self-guided walking tours are also promoted with easy-to-use sculpture tour guides. The diversity of the people viewing the works creates a valuable market for the promotion and sale of the participants’ artwork. Articles about the previous exhibitions have appeared in South Sound magazine, the Seattle Times, and The Oregonian.

The Josephine Sculpture Park and FrankArts are seeking contemporary public artworks for a 2-year outdoor exhibit. RFQ/RFP for Iconic Artwork in LGBTQ+ Welcoming Building / Calls & Submissions

Applications sought for a public artwork that supports and celebrates the LGBTQ+ community in a new LGBTQ+ welcoming building. The artwork will be located in the building pass through of a new four story mixed-use and mixed-income building located between East Avenue and Broad Street in Rochester, NY. We seek applications by October 31 for an iconic work of art that represents, welcomes, or supports the LGBTQ+ community in some way, and we encourage artists to think expansively about the space, utilizing the wall, ceiling, and ground. The resulting commission should be bold, eye-catching, thoughtful, and engaging both day and night. This opportunity is open to artists and artists teams of all disciplines who have completed other public commissions of a similar scale. Rochester Contemporary Art Center (RoCo) is working with neighborhood partners to administer the RFQ/RFP process.

Lucca Biennale Cartasia 2022

The new Lucca Biennale Cartasia calls are already online for the eleventh edition of the event, scheduled in the Tuscan city of Lucca from July 31st to September 25th, 2022. After an edition in an odd year following the postponement due to Covid-19, the largest paper art, architecture and design event returns to its original biennial even positioning. For the Indoor call all artistic forms are allowed, ranging from sculpture to video-art and to performance art. The Outdoor call is instead dedicated to the creation of paper monumental sculptures to be created during an artistic residency, which culminates in the installation of the work in one of the city's squares. 1000 € will be awarded for the Outdoor exhibition.

CURRENTS New Media is now accepting submissions for our 2022 art and technology festival in Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA.

Every summer since 2010, CURRENTS New Media presents one of the leading art and technology festivals in the United States. 7th Annual Leaves & Petals Art Competition

Fusion Art invites submissions for the 7th Annual Leaves & Petals art competition for an online exhibition during the month of October 2021.

For this competition, both 2D and 3D artists, worldwide, are invited to submit their best art depicting flowers, leaves, herbs, plants, shrubs, bushes, hedges and other botanical or floral subjects. All artists, regardless of location or experience, are invited to submit their best representational and/or abstract art and photography.

The LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize 

The LOEWE FOUNDATION has opened the call for entries to the fifth edition of the LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize, an international award celebrating excellence in craftsmanship. The LOEWE FOUNDATION seeks to recognize uniquely talented artisans whose artistic vision, technical skill, and determination to innovate will set new standards for the future of craft. The winning works will be featured in an exhibition and accompanying catalog in Seoul in Spring 2022. Eligibility: All participants must be professional artisans of 18 years or older at the time of the submission of entries. The Foundwork Artist Prize is an annual juried award to recognize outstanding practices by contemporary artists working in any media. The residency is not project-based or requiring specific engagement or outcome but it is a place to find peace and new ideas. Artists from all disciplines are welcome to apply. As we are so remote we cannot offer internet access on a daily basis, but a walk up to “internet hill” or trip into town is possible to catch up on emails.

Located in the Mesopotamian region, Diamante is located on the banks of one of the most important rivers in South America; The Paraná river. This river is born in the Brazilian Matto Grosso region and flows into the Rio de la Plata, forming there one of the largest deltas in the world. The city is 5 minutes from the pre delta national park. La Paternal Espacio Proyecto implements the Sustainable Action Program (P.A.S) in the city of Diamante. The P.A.S promotes Sustainability Model Cities enhancing the existing cultural and environmental capital. It seeks to promote a culture of social inclusion, based on caring for the environment.

The implementation of this program aims to leave installed capacity through the creation of recycling arts and crafts schools. The P.A.S is aligned with the SDGs (Goals for Sustainable Development) of the United Nations (UN).

It works by training neighbors in recycling arts and crafts, generating creative awareness activities and involving the most significant institutions. L.P.E.P. is an independent space that aims to promote dialogue between artists and disciplines. For 10 years artists, researchers, managers and art theorists of different nationalities have come to the residence to develop their projects participating in the different programs linked to the intersection between Art and Society.

AqTushetii is an artist colony and festival that fosters the arts, culture, history, and traditions of Tusheti while bringing together creatives from around the world to collaborate, work, and share knowledge. Individuals working in all disciplines are encouraged to apply. Every year AqTushetii hosts residents from various backgrounds: visual and sound artists, musicians, dancers, philosophers, writers, anthropologists, scientists, and more.

AqTushetii is extending its residency season this year! For the first time, artist residencies will be available in the autumn and winter. Potential residents will have the unique opportunity to travel to Tusheti by helicopter to experience and work in the wild, remote and stunning highland region while the road is closed.

Ora Schneider Regional Residency Grant

The Ora Schneider Regional Grant is a month-long residency for artists residing in Greene, Columbia, Delaware, Dutchess, Ulster, Sullivan, and Orange counties. Gail Schneider Matlin—a gifted artist, former WSW board member, and daughter of Ora Schneider—funds these residencies to honor her mother’s long-time commitment to our community’s cultural life.

WSW awards this residency to two artists, who may choose to work in any of our studio disciplines. Priority will be given to artists with experience and a working knowledge of etching, intaglio, or monoprint; letterpress; papermaking; screenprinting; photography; or ceramics.

This grant includes a $1500 stipend and 24/7 studio access. We understand that applicants may not be close enough for a daily commute, so free onsite housing can also be arranged.

Art Omi Residencies

Art Omi has five residency programs for artists (of all disciplines), writers, dancers and choreographers, architects, and musicians and composers. The program is located in the historic Hudson River Valley.

Art Omi: Artists invites artists, critics, and curators from around the world - representing a wide diversity of artistic styles and practices - to gather in rural New York to experiment, collaborate, and share ideas. Concentrated time for creative work is balanced with the stimulation of cultural exchange and critical appraisal. Art Omi: Artists Residency nurtures deep creative and professional connections in a vibrant social setting.

Each session, two dozen international artists are invited to the program, along with two critics/curators who participate as Critic Emeritus and Critic/Curator-In-Residence. These two individuals play a pivotal role in the residency as they facilitate discussions, help connect the artists with art world professionals through the Visitors Program, and conduct individual studio visits with the 23 artists in residence throughout the duration of the residency session.

Mudhouse Summer Residency this July on the Greek island of Crete! 

We will be holding three summer residency sessions in 2022; from June until the beginning of August.  The cost of the residency program is €2100 for the two week duration. We are now accepting applications and reviewing applicants on a rolling basis. The first deadline to submit an application for next summer’s residency program is October 15, 2021.

The Mudhouse Residency is designed to provide a cultural immersion: living, working and dining in the mountain village of Agios Ioannis. The residency is inclusive to a number of artistic disciplines, with the facilities to accommodate studio artists, photographers, writers, choreographers, and composers.  We are located in the mountains, but small group trips are organized to swim in the blue-green waters of the Libyan sea and hike across the Thripti mountain range.

L’Expressoir Artist Residency Program

L’Expressoir is an artist residency supported by les Ateliers de Création et d’Expression Artistique (ACEA). Don Bachardy Fellowship

The Don Bachardy Fellowship at the Royal Drawing School invites a gifted and dedicated post-graduate artist from outside the United Kingdom to study at the Royal Drawing School during the Summer Term and to experience the cultural life of London. The School’s Shoreditch campus is located in a converted Victorian warehouse in the heart of East London’s art, design and fashion scene. 

The Don Bachardy Fellowship will take place during the Royal Drawing School Summer Term, 25th April – 2nd July 2022. The Don Bachardy Fellow will spend 3 full days per week for ten weeks, drawing alongside postgraduate students studying on the Royal Drawing School's MA level programme, The Drawing Year, as well as students on the Public Programme. Courses are taught by a distinguished faculty of over 75 practising artists. The Fellow will be invited to curate their own programme of study choosing from over different 60+ drawing courses, drawing out of house in London’s streets and green spaces, life drawing, drawing from art in major museums and galleries, as well as intaglio printmaking courses. The artist will also be provided with a shared studio space alongside Royal Drawing School Drawing Year Students.

Artisphere 2022

2022 marks the seventeenth annual event for the top-ranking Artisphere festival in Greenville, SC. Despite its short history, Artisphere has distinguished itself as both a regional and national highlight.  A supportive, art-loving community, beautiful setting, notable on-site artist amenities and hospitality, and over 500 volunteers make the Artisphere three-day event an enjoyable experience for exhibiting artists and the public alike. Epoch literary journal is currently seeking art submissions for our fifth issue with the theme of ‘Unholy’. Submissions are open 1 September – 31 October, 2021.

Artwork must be submitted as .jpeg files, with a resolution of 72 dpi and dimensions of at least 595 x 841 pixels. Before submitting, please ensure that you are able to provide images as .tiff tiles with a resolution of 300 dpi and dimensions of at least 2480 x 3508 pixels for continuous-tone art and a resolution of 1200 dpi and dimensions of at least 9921 x 14032 pixels for line art. In the event that your work is selected, work which does not meet these criteria will not be eligible for publication.

Call for Artwork for Portraits Project

The Gay Men's Chorus of Washington, DC (GMCW) is seeking artwork to be used as part of the Portraits project to be premiered in June 2024. Compensation to the artist is $2,500 per piece. Portraits will represent through visual art, music, and dance, the spectrum of sexual, gender, racial, ethnic, and cultural identities. Paintings, drawings, and photographs are welcome. The artworks may be a portrait, or a scene depicting an aspect of the human experience, including identity expression and historical references specific to the LGBTQ+ community. Selected artworks will be used as projections as part of a live performance, brought to life aurally by music, and visually by GMCW's 17th Street Dance ensemble. Music will be commissioned by composers inspired by the artworks selected for the project. Artists may submit works from their existing portfolio, or the artist may submit a sample or sketch of a proposed work. If the sample/sketch is selected for the project, the completed work will then be due September 1, 2022. Multiple works or sketches may be submitted. No entry fee.

George A.& Eliza Gardner Howard Fellowships in Photography

The Howard Foundation will consider proposals from visual artists working in any genre, style, and media that can be classified as Photography, with regards to still images. In accordance with the fellowship program's overall goal of supporting early mid-career artists, applicants should have a record of exhibitions and demonstrate a promising program of creative development using photography as a mode of creative expression and experimentation.  Stochastic Labs awards fully sponsored residencies to exceptional engineers, artists, scientists, and entrepreneurs from around the world. Residencies are of variable length and include a private apartment at the mansion, co-working and/or dedicated workspace, shop access (laser cutter, 3D printer, etc), a $1k monthly stipend, and a budget for materials. Rauschenberg Emergency Grant

 The Robert Rauschenberg Foundation is partnering with New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) to administer the Rauschenberg Emergency Grants, an emergency grant program that provides one-time grants of up to $5,000 for medical or dental emergencies.  The grants are available to visual and media artists, and choreographers living anywhere in the United States or U.S. Territories.  This program was established in the tradition of the artist's Change, Inc., a non-profit foundation established in 1970 by Robert Rauschenberg to assist professional artists of all disciplines in need of emergency medical aid.

Foundation for Contemporary Arts Emergency Grant

 Created in 1993 to further FCA's mission to encourage, sponsor, and promote work of a contemporary, experimental nature, Emergency Grants provide urgent funding for visual and performing artists who:

  •  Have sudden, unanticipated opportunities to present their work to the public when there is insufficient time to seek other sources of funding

  •  Incur unexpected or unbudgeted expenses for projects close to completion with committed exhibition or performance dates

 Emergency Grants is the only active, multi-disciplinary program that offers immediate assistance of this kind to artists living and working anywhere in the United States, for projects occurring in the U.S. and abroad.

 Each month FCA receives an average of 95 Emergency Grant applications and makes approximately 12-15 grants. Grants range in amount from $500 to $3,000, and the average grant is now $1,700.

The Adolph & Esther Gottlieb Emergency Grant

The Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Emergency Grant program is intended to provide interim financial assistance to qualified painters, printmakers, and sculptors whose needs are the result of an unforeseen, catastrophic incident, and who lack the resources to meet that situation. Each grant is given as one-time assistance for a specific emergency, examples of which are fire, flood, or emergency medical needs.

AMOUNT: The maximum amount of this grant is $15,000; an award of $5,000 is typical.

Art Show International’s Solo Exhibitions

Art Show International announces their 2021 Solo Exhibition Competition. All visual artists from around the world are invited to submit their 5 best artworks to win an invitation as a solo artist in our gallery. This will now be a regular feature at Art Show International. Each month, an exclusive offer will be extended to artists selected from among our highly talented artist pool. One Grand Prize Winner selected from among all artists participating in this Solo Competition during 2021 will receive a $1,000 cash award. Additional cash prizes will also be announced.

Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant

Established as part of Lee Krasner’s legacy, the Pollock Krasner Foundation Grant was set up to support and strengthen the creative lives of artists. A competitive grant for artists with extensive exhibition records, this grant has a long list of impressive alumni. Since its start in 1985, the foundation has granted over 65 million dollars in award money to artists in over 77 countries.

WHO: Mid-career professional artists with demonstrable financial need. Artists must be actively exhibiting their current work in professional artistic venues, such as gallery and museum spaces.

A micro-granting organization, funding “awesome” ideas, The Awesome Foundation set up local chapters around the world to provide rolling grants of $1000 to “awesome projects.” Each chapter defines what is “awesome” for their local community, but most include arts initiatives and public or social practice art projects.

The Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant

 The Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation grant is one of the most prestigious grants available to emerging figurative artists, as well as one of the most substantial. It is one of the longest-standing foundations, with an illustrious history of recipients spanning more than half a century. It is also unique in its scope, in that it is available to students and artists around the world.

WHO: Young artists pursuing their studies or in the early or developmental stage of their career. 

AMOUNT: First grants are in the amount of CAD $15,000 each, and subsequent grants are in the amount of CAD $18,000 each (maximum three grants).

FINE PRINT: The Foundation does not provide funding for the pursuit of abstract or non-objective art. Grants are intended to assist applicants in the study or practice of their art, and the costs associated therewith, such as tuition, studio rental, model fees, travel, and living expenses. Eligible courses of study or training include undergraduate, graduate, or post-graduate studies and diploma programs from accredited institutions, recognized residencies, apprenticeships/internships, and studio training.
