[GUIDE] The Best Artist Opportunities in September & October 2026

Artist grants, residencies, fellowships, competitions, public art opportunities, and open calls, all with deadlines in September and October 2026.

Artwork Archive August 20, 2026

Artist Philine van der Vegte's plein air painting setup shows an easel positioned outdoors in a lush garden setting. The canvas displays an energetic botanical study with bold yellows, greens, purples, and blacks depicting foliage in an expressive, gestural style. The portable wooden easel holds the work steady while a palette with fresh paint in yellows, blues, and other colors sits ready for use. The natural surroundings provide direct inspiration, with dense greenery and plants visible in the background. This outdoor painting practice captures the immediacy of working directly from nature. Text overlay reads "ARTIST GRANTS & OPPORTUNITIES in September" in white letters on the left side of the image.

What Artist Grants, Residencies, and Open Calls Are in This Guide?

Double the deadlines, double the artist opportunities. Here are the ones worth your time in September and October 2026.

Fall is officially peak application season, and believe it or not, spring and summer programs are starting to lock in their rosters.

To keep your art career thriving, we packed this guide with top-tier artist grants, residencies, fellowships, competitions, public art opportunities, and open calls, all with deadlines closing between September 1 and October 31, 2026. Inside, you'll find a powerhouse lineup open to artists internationally at every career stage. Most artists we know would rather be creating masterpieces than hunting down application listings. So leave the data digging to us, your next big career move is right below.

How to Track Grant and Residency Deadlines in Your Artwork Archive Schedule

Add deadlines to your Schedule. Click "Add to Schedule" on any listing below and the deadline lands in your Artwork Archive Schedule, with reminders so it does not arrive as a surprise.

Get your submission materials ready early. Most applications ask for the same things: an artist statement, a CV or bio, and high-resolution images with full artwork details. Assembling those once, before deadline week, makes every application after it faster.

Use your Artwork Archive account as the hub for application documents. Pull dimensions, medium, and year straight from your artwork records, generate Reports for inventory lists and tear sheets, store statements and past applications alongside the artwork they reference, and share a Private Room when a call asks for a portfolio link.

Pro tip: Before you apply, check that the specific artwork you plan to submit has a current high-resolution image and complete details in your Artwork Archive records. An application that pulls from finished records takes minutes rather than an afternoon of hunting through old files. If you do not have an account yet, start a free Artwork Archive trial and get your records in order before the first deadline arrives.

Before you submit, read our Guide to Landing Grants and Funding for what separates a strong application from a forgettable one. If you are planning further ahead, the 2026 Opportunity Guide covers deadlines across the full year, and you can filter every current listing by deadline, location, eligibility, and entry fee on our Call for Entry page.

Browse the listings below, ordered by deadline. New opportunities are added throughout September and October, so check back often!

A person types on a laptop computer while seated on a green couch. The laptop screen displays an art opportunity listing titled "The Luminous Edge of Being." Their hands rest on the keyboard, wearing a striped long-sleeved shirt. The scene is photographed from above against plush green upholstery. White text on the right reads "Looking for more current art opportunities?" followed by a light green button stating "SEE MORE OPEN CALLS FOR ENTRY" with a hand-drawn arrow pointing to it. A small logo appears in the upper right corner. The image conveys artists actively searching for professional opportunities online.

ArtOpportunities.org

Formerly Artist Opportunity Monthly, all you need to do is sign up with your email and they send you thoroughly screened opportunities every month, including grants. AOM prides itself on ensuring each opportunity is worthwhile. A more comprehensive monthly list is offered at $5 a year.

ArtDeadline.com

Another site you may have heard of is ArtDeadline.com. According to their website, it is “the largest and most respected source for artists seeking income and exhibition opportunities.” The site may cost you a subscription fee of $20 a year to view the majority of its opportunities, but you can still browse many grants listed for free on their homepage and the @ArtDeadline Twitter account.

Curator Space

CuratorSpace is a project management toolkit for curators, organizers, galleries, and artists. It is designed to take the hassle out of managing exhibitions, competitions, fairs, and a whole lot more. Plus, they are a great site for finding art opportunities worldwide!
