Some of my favorite walks involve going into and out of the forest, where the mix of older trees and newer growth creates a complex tapestry of textures and colors. Usually my favorites also involve birch trees. Perhaps because they re often found in these transition zones before a dominant species overtakes everything. It can be hard to make sense of all the chaos found between forest and field, and in this painting I tried not to control all the elements as much as just represent them in their chaotic state.
