Late summer into early autumn is one of my favorite times of the year. It offers the promise of the coming colors and the fields get their last cut of hay and the Goldenrod and Joe Pie Weed dominate roadsides and riverbanks. This particular painting pulls from a few locations to create a composite of river, farm and foliage as the leaves are turning and the grass is turning to gold. While it’s ideal to find a perfectly composed landscape with all the elements to make a good painting, sometimes it’s necessary to utilize experience and imagination to pull together something that represents the feeling you are looking for.
