The last couple of years have seen some very fiery sunsets, owed in part to wildfire smoke making it’s way down from Canada. Sometimes this smoke leads to more subdued evening light heavy with the promise of warm days to come. This piece uses a photo taken from a drone above the Winooski River in Essex as reference material. I’ve been drawn to some familiar places, made new by seeing them from the air. This perspective emphasizes the shaping of the area by water and woods, and presents a new challenge in painting.
