This Stowe Vermont Covered Bridge, known as "Emily's Bridge" is classic Vermont. On this moody day in autumn I found myself down below the bridge, downstream, looking up as the light fought to filter through clouds. I originally intended to paint this in a larger format, and was struggling over some of the changes I would have to make for this painting to work. That lead to this smaller painting which allowed my to 'trial' some of those changes. The bridge itself is not altered but some of the trees on the right and in the background, and some of the stream below the bridge has been tweaked to provide greater emphasis on the barn and lead your eye to the stream beneath. A larger piece will create additional challenges, but will also allow for more detail in some areas that will create additional interest.
