Covered Bridges are often a subject for my paintings. This little bridge in Charlotte also goes by the name the “Quinlan's Bridge” or “The Lower Bridge”. The name Sherman comes from the owner of a sawmill that was located adjacent to the bridge site. “The Lower Bridge" was because it is downstream of the Sequin (or "Upper") bridge. The builder is unknown, but most likely the same builder as the Sequin Covered Bridge upstream.
Little paintings like this are rewarding in that they can be finished in a relatively short period of time. The trick is in simplifying, and then determining just how much detail to put in that small space.
