I've painted the Lumber Mill Bridge on Back Road in Belvidere before, but from the upstream side of the bridge. This view takes in the bridge downstream. I was initially drawn to the early color in the trees surrounding the bridge, but as I painted it I fell in love with the glow of light on some of the rocks below the bridge. I've accentuated them just a little here, but they had a real nice glow to them in my reference photos.
Painting water, reflections, rocks, all present challenges. I find myself trying new approaches with almost every painting that has water. It is ever changing, but when it comes together it is immensely satisfying.
