Taking Flight - Winner of the 2009 Saskatchewan Craft Council Dimensions Show for Excellence in Quilting.
The journey of Taking Flight began during a weekend escape with friends at the lake. Each of us had our own projects to tackle, and I opted to dedicate my time to painting fabric. The focal point of this piece showcases the culmination of my last day’s work. I adorned the painting with colorful threads and prints, manipulating them to create beautiful blends, contrasts, and accents. The block designs were unplanned, resulting in a unique surprise with each one I finished. This piece of art features a stunning blend of hand embroidery, machine embroidery, free motion quilting, and fabric that has been hand-painted, showcasing a variety of techniques.
