Through the Grapevine is a truly experimental piece. I randomly arranged leaves from my grapevine on premium black cotton fabric and applied a bleach spray to the surface. This process removes some of the commercial dye, revealing unexpected color shifts, with the fabric in this case transforming into a rich burnt orange. The sections beneath the leaves remained untouched by the bleach, preserving the original black. To enhance the piece, I utilized Shiva Paintstiks for depth, highlights, and additional color. The techniques and materials involved include Shiva Paintstiks, bleach discharge, relief printing, thread painting, and machine quilting.
