This artwork showcases a blend of various techniques and materials. At its core, the convergence piecing technique utilizes four distinct fabrics, each cut into strips of different widths and merged. The trapunto applique technique features carefully selected fussy cut flowers from one of the base fabrics, stitched onto the base, and enhanced with padding added through a small slit in the backing, which is then hand-sewn shut for a striking high-relief effect. The hummingbird is crafted from commercial cotton, hand-appliqued to the base, and intricately thread-painted to mimic the appearance of feathers. The three borders are composed of an array of batiks and Kaffe Fassett fabrics. To finish, the wall hanging has been free motion quilted, adding depth and a sense of movement.
