This wall hanging is crafted using a technique known as Mosaic Applique, where traditional tiles are substituted with fabric pieces to form the desired image. The artwork is segmented into small 'tiles' to allow for variation and diversity in color and shape. A design is first drawn on both freezer paper and a sturdy backing fabric. Each segment of the mosaic is numbered sequentially to guide the assembly process. Individual freezer paper pieces are ironed onto fabric and cut out. the fabric is then removed from the freezer paper, positioned on the base fabric, and stitched in place. The border features a decorative motif that has been 'fussy cut' from fabric and hand-appliquéd onto the base. The materials and techniques used include commercial cotton, mosaic appliqué, hand appliqué, and free-motion machine quilting.
