This artwork started as a simple coloring endeavor with my new set of professional-coloured pencils. There was no specific plan or design in mind; I simply let the lines and colors guide me. I was so pleased with the image I created that I wanted to expand on it. I rummaged through my fabric stash and discovered some pieces that beautifully matched the colors in my drawing, which I then stitched together to create a border. Since the central image is on paper, I needed to ensure it wouldn’t tear during the quilting process or suffer from wear over time. I decided to place a layer of thin tulle over the paper and fabric, which not only unified the look but also provided essential protection for the paper. This piece features a mix of commercial batiks, an unconventional method of piecing fabrics, colored pencil on paper, tulle, and free motion quilting.
