This painting represents what I didn’t know my heart needed until I found these fields near Bishopville South Carolina and the people who love and preserve them at the South Carolina Cotton Museum. I consider myself lucky that we took that quiet rural road and the sun was shining and the museum was open and the knowledge of that time and that crop was shared enthusiastically by generous teachers. That experience created new connections for me to the history of this place where I’ve lived for over thirty years. Now a cotton field on a quiet country back road will never be lost in time or relevance to me and to anyone who sees this because I painted how it looked and felt to “find” it all.
