Photogravure
Through glimpses of memory, I am interested in creating a diary of the senses. Traditionally, the diary functions as a private record. However, my work makes the diary public. Life events become blurred as disparate objects intermingle in an overgrown garden of memories, lusts, embarrassments and pleasures.
Whether creating portions of my work through handicraft methods, found objects or fabricating from scratch, I attempt to create harmony out of discordant elements. In the process of making, I embrace the scratch, the stain, the imperfect.
This piece is one in a series using photogravure printmaking made from images of various people in my life. I gravitate to this technique for its ability to show the touch and hand of the maker.
Each of the senses loves to linger over their particular stories. The eyes, nose or tongue savoring a recollection. The flesh yearns to converse with flesh. I give you glimpses: what do you recall?
