Percent for Art

The City of Eugene established its commitment to the Visual Arts through the Percent for Art Ordinance of 1981, which states that it is an appropriate function of government to foster arts and the development of artists. The percent for art process is triggered when any building, park, mall, or other capital construction project (but not including streets, alleys, bicycle paths, and other public thoroughfares) constructed, remodeled, or purchased by the city which construction, remodeling or purchasing involves the expenditure of more than $50,000. 20x21EUG Mural Project

The 20x21EUG Mural Project was an initiative of the City of Eugene Cultural Service’s Public Art Program to create 20 or more world-class outdoor murals in Eugene before the 2022 IAAF World Championships. The project was led by a highly engaged committee representing collaboration across sectors including communications, law, architecture, small business, nonprofit and the arts. 20×21 aimed to bring color and life to Eugene’s urban landscape to foster pride and contribute to a sense of identity. Urban Canvas

Urban Canvas, the City of Eugene’s local mural program, strives to create a vibrant and dynamic public art community by providing opportunities for local artists. Since its initial inception in 2017, the program has dramatically expanded in scope and now includes an artist roster of 100+ Lane County artists, ranging from those wishing to complete their first mural to seasoned muralists with several works around the community, as well as nationally and even internationally. Fresh Paint Initiative

City Hall Gallery Archive

Located in Eugene’s City Hall along the Willamette River, City Hall Gallery increases opportunities for local and regional artists to present their work and to foster meaningful community engagement, learning and reflection through art. City Exhibitions at the Hult Archive

City Exhibitions at the Hult Center, featuring the Contemporary Indigenous Art Gallery, is a partnership between the Hult Center for the Performing Arts and City of Eugene Public Art. The space is dedicated to advancing Native and Indigenous artists and arts by presenting contemporary artworks to regional, national and international audiences. Farmers Market Pavilion Exhibition Archive

City Exhibitions presents innovative and underrepresented contemporary artists and art forms and activates previously underutilized spaces that are open to the public. Cultural Currents Archive

Thank you for supporting two years of Cultural Currents installations! Cultural Currents was a limited duration project supported in part by funding from the National Endowment for the Arts. The project has now come to a close and our Public Art team is learning from the experience to explore how community engagement impacts the way we work with artists for public installations.

Windowfront Exhibitions Archive

Downtown Eugene’s empty storefronts become interactive artworks and galleries with new and evolving windowfront paintings and art installations. Emerge Exhibitions Archive

Inspired by Windowfront Exhibitions, Emerge Exhibitions continues the artistic activation of window spaces downtown and supports professional exhibition experiences for new and emerging artists. This initiative features work by regional artists who are new to showing their work and are seeking exhibition experience. The Cultural Services Public Art team assists these artists through all phases of showing their artwork, including conceptual design, installation and writing about their art practice.
