- Event Dates: October 4, 2025 - October 25, 2025
- Entry Fee: $40
- Eligibility: International
- Location: Tuscon, Arizona
Humans have long held a deep, entrancing relationship with darkness. It is a space where mystery stirs, fantasies unfold, and fear occasionally takes root. Darkness sparks the imagination—and for photographers, it offers a fertile ground for storytelling. This juried exhibition invites photographic work that delves into those stories and explores the emotional, psychological, and visual power of the dark.
At least 26 images will be selected for exhibition at Decode Gallery. The gallery provides professional printing for all accepted works at no cost to the artist, using an Epson printer and Ultra Premium Luster paper. One exhibition print will be made per accepted work and archived for six months following the show.
Decode Gallery uses museum-quality 22” x 22” white frames and a variety of precut white mats. Submitted hi-resolution images will be resized (never cropped) for optimal presentation. If a print is listed for sale and receives interest, the photographer will be contacted directly. All rights to image files and prints remain with the artist. Sales are split evenly, with 50% to the photographer and 50% to the gallery.
Selected photographers will be notified by email within two weeks of the submission deadline. Final high-resolution JPGs will be due two days after notification. The exhibition opening is scheduled for October 4.

"This fall, the Photographic Resource Center (PRC) will welcome two artists—working independently yet side by side—to transform our gallery into a shared open studio for four weeks.
This residency supports ongoing or evolving projects in photography, video, installation, or interdisciplinary practices. In addition, each artist will create at least one new piece that engages with the PRC’s legacy—drawing on past exhibitions, printed materials, or archival ephemera—as a point of reflection, contrast, or inspiration.
This might take the form of a reimagined work, a text-based response, an archival intervention, or even a contextual nod in wall text or programming. Our goal is to foster experimentation while encouraging artists to consider the institutional frameworks that shape photographic history.
