Q: Who is eligible?

A: All visual artists over the age of 21 from anywhere in the world are eligible to apply for the Artwork Archive's Art Business Accelerator Grant

Artists must be working intentionally to better their communities and/or address community challenges directly through their work. Examples of this could include but are not limited to involvement in community projects, education, mentoring, and public art.

Artists should demonstrate high artistic quality, innovation, and creativity with a track record of participation in the arts for at least two (2) years.

All artists interested in continuing to build their art career are encouraged to apply. All applicants will receive the same career-building educational resources that grant winners will receive.

Q: When will grant winners be announced?

A: Grantees will be notified on July 1, 2021

Q: What is the difference between Mid-career and an Established artist?

Try not to get too caught up in the definitions on the application as they do not affect your application status. You can self-identify as any emerging, mid, or established, based on time and experience in your profession.

Q: Do virtual communities also count?

Yes

Q: Does the work we are applying with need to be socio-political or does organizing and mentoring count?

No, your work does not have to be socio-political in nature. Education, mentoring, sharing resources, and being active in your community all count toward the definition of being a Citizen Artist.

Q: How do we access the curriculum? Will it only be offered to the winners of the grant?

Everyone who applies for the grant will receive the educational materials on a weekly basis via email.

Q: Is it required to complete the curriculum? Is it in person?

It is not required to complete all or any of the curriculum. The resources are self-led guides that you can access at any time and at your own pace.

Q: Is there a specific image size and resolution or file size for the images of work samples?

You should upload the highest-quality image that you have available. You can find out more about the exact specification in Submittable.

Q: Does being a member of Artwork Archive have an impact on my application? Do you have to be an Artwork Archive member?

Absolutely not! You do not have to be an Artwork Archive member to apply and being a member does not have any impact on your application.

Q: Will this grant be offered again next year is it ongoing?

We are so grateful to be able to support the Art Business Accelerator Grant in its first year. The grant was a direct response to the difficulties that artists faced in 2020 and, while we hope to have more grants available in the future, we can't be certain what the future holds.
