The November Guide to the Best Art Opportunities

Each month we bring you the best grants, calls-for-entry and residencies with deadlines coming up during that month. 

November is shaping up to be a great month for artists to find a new opportunity. 

Whether you want to beef up your CV with a juried show, snag an art grant to fund your dream project, or try your hand at an artist residency, we’ve found some of the best opportunities out there for artists worldwide.

IACA Grants for Individual Artists, Creative Endeavors

Integrity: Arts & Culture (IACA) sponsors mini-grants for artists focusing on creative endeavors, believing the arts are essential to the health and vitality of our communities and our nation. Grants are intended to assist with such things as art supplies, recording studio time, exhibits, performances, project-related expenses, etc.

WHO: Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or a permanent legal resident, 18 years of age or older

AMOUNT: Grants generally average $250

DEADLINE: November 1, 2019 

FINE PRINT: High school or college undergraduate students may not apply. Graduate students may apply, but we do not fund tuition or student projects. Within 30 days of the close of the project, IACA requires 1-2 paragraphs describing how their support benefited you. Learn more here.

 

The Hopper Prize

The Hopper Prize is offering 5 individual artist grants in the amount of $1,000 USD awarded through an open call art competition juried by leading contemporary curators. They support artists working in all media, from diverse backgrounds, in wide-ranging geographic locations.

DEADLINE: November 12, 2019

FINE PRINT: The application is short and can be completed in under 20 minutes. To apply for a grant, you only need to submit this information: name and email, up to 10 Image or Video attachments, artwork captions, artist statement & biography (optional), and $40 submission fee. Learn more here.

 

Innovate Grants - Call for Artists & Photographers

Innovate Grant is now accepting submissions for Fall 2019. Innovate Grant awards two grants each quarter, to one visual artist and one photographer. In addition to receiving a grant award, winners will be featured and recognized on our website and join a growing community of vibrant and talented artists.

WHO: Visual artists and photographers worldwide

AMOUNT: $550

DEADLINE: November 19, 2019 

FINE PRINT: They believe your work should speak for itself and their grant application reflects that! All they require is name, email, grant category (Art or Photography), 3-5 images of your work, and an application fee of $25. Learn more here.

 

The Pastel Society Exhibition 121st Annual Exhibition & Art Prize

Artists from the UK and beyond are invited to submit works for exhibition alongside members of The Pastel Society at their 121st Annual Exhibition 2020. The Society welcomes works in pastels, pencil, oil pastels, charcoal, conte, sanguine, or any dry media.

LOCATION: London, England

DEADLINE: November 1 ,2019

FINE PRINT: The exhibition offers several prizes and awards, open to all participating artists, including £1,000 worth of art materials from exhibition sponsor Derwent. Artists must be 18 and older to submit. Learn more here.

 

5th Annual Leaves & Petals Art Competition

For this competition, both 2D and 3D artists are invited to submit their best artwork depicting flowers, leaves, herbs, plants, shrubs, bushes, hedges and other botanical or floral subjects.

LOCATION: Online

DEADLINE: November 1, 2019  

FINE PRINT: The artwork can range from realism to surrealism to abstraction and all artists, regardless of location or experience, are encouraged to submit their best best representational and/or nonrepresentational art and photography. Learn more here.

 

Art Vancouver 2020

Vancouver Visual Art Foundation is announcing an open call for the 6th edition of Art Vancouver, an international art fair held annually at The Vancouver Convention Centre. Art Vancouver draws over 10,000 well-educated buyers & art lovers from all around the world. For four days, Art Vancouver provides an exceptional opportunity for the sale of unique, creative and high-end work.

Americas 2020: Paperworks

A competition hosted by Northwest Arts Center. Works in any medium, on or of paper, traditional or experimental, including photographs, qualify.

DATES: January 13 - February 24, 2020

LOCATION: Minot, ND

DEADLINE: November 1, 2019

FINE PRINT: Entry fee: 2 entries $30; additional entries $5 each. $1500 in Cash Awards: five Merit Awards and one Best of Show, plus Purchase Awards. Best of Show earns a 2021 solo exhibition and an invitation to the Best of the Best exhibit. Paper Award: 25 sheets of Awagami Editioning Papers from Awagami Factory, Tokushima, Japan, makers of traditional washi papers. Learn more here.

 

Off the Wall 2019

Off the Wall will showcase juried artwork in a variety of themes and media offered at prices from $50 to $450. WWAC will be looking for art that will appeal to a broad audience, drawing in WWAC Members as well as the community of the Greater Princeton area during the holiday season. Artwork may be literally taken off the wall at the time of purchase.

DEADLINE: November 2, 2019   

FINE PRINT: All works that can be hung on the wall, including drawing, painting, mixed media, photography, printmaking or fiber will be considered. Exhibit Here's 2019 Art Maze Exhibition

Exhibit Here is excited to announce that they will be returning to Bargehouse in November. There are 13 different spaces within Bargehouse, each room is incredibly atmospheric with original features and quirks, and Exhibit Here is looking for 120 artists to transform them into a haunting and immersive maze of art.

FINE PRINT: There is no theme to the exhibition, it has been left open to encourage a diverse a response, however if your work has a haunting element to it, this would be a bonus as artwork of this nature would especially add to the overpowering atmosphere in Bargehouse. Learn more here.

 

Stunning

Las Laguna Gallery is seeking stunning artworks in this open theme call for art. This call for art is open to ALL local, national and international artists, professional and amateur working in the disciplines of Acrylic, Airbrush, Assemblage, Charcoal, Color Pencil, Collage, Digital Art, Drawings, Encaustic, Fiber Art, Graphite, Illustration, Mixed Media, New Media, Oil, Painting, Pastel, Photography (Traditional and Digital), and Watercolor.

2019 ALL Planet Earth Theme Exhibition & Competition

Contemporary Art Gallery Online announces their 1st Annual International 2019 “ALL Planet Earth Theme” Online Art Competition. Contemporary Art Gallery Online encourages entries from all 2D and 3D artists regardless of their experience or education in the art field. Submit your best work representing any that is associated with our magnificent planet.

CURRENTS New Media Festival 2020

With 10 years of new media production, display, and support in its wheelhouse, CURRENTS New Media has become known as one of the leading emerging media arts festivals in the States. CURRENTS brings together the work of established and emerging new media artists from the USA and around the world. We invite artists across all mediums of electronic art and new media to apply.

FINE PRINT: This year’s categories include: Installations (Interactive and Non-Interactive), Outdoor Installations and Projections, Virtual/Augmented/Mixed Reality Environments, Robotics, Multimedia Performance, Digitally Generated Objects (i.e. 3D Printing), Interactive Installations for Children, Single Channel Video and Animation, Experimental Documentary. Risk Everything – An International Group Exhibition

Manifest Destiny Art, in the heart of Barcelona’s Art and Design District, is a stunning post-industrial destination for art and innovation. They are now accepting submissions of artwork inspired by anything the artist considers within the theme 'Risk Everything'. There are no restrictions on content, style, medium or context, but your entries should fit this theme in some way.

LOCATION: Barcelona, Spain

DEADLINE: November 5, 2019  

FINE PRINT: All - Work will be displayed digitally on a 6 Foot (2 meter) Projection as a part of a larger Exhibition called "RISK" during Poblenou Open Night. 37€ for entry of up to 3 pieces of work. Once an entry is submitted, fees are non-refundable regardless of acceptance into the exhibition. Small Works 2019

West Hartford Art League invites artists to submit to Small Works 2019. Maximum size (including frame) 11 x 14. Work may be entered in all mediums, including pottery and three dimensional work that adheres to the 11 x 14 size framework.

LOCATION: West Hartford, CT

DEADLINE: November 5, 2019

FINE PRINT: Work must have been created during the last 2 calendar years and not previously exhibited in a WHAL juried show. Up to two works of art can be entered. Learn more here.

 

Isolation | Call for Exhibition

Though we are living in an overcrowded world, there are still sparsely populated areas, hidden somewhere, where life (and its pace) is really different. For this group exhibition, try to capture and depict the essence of those places, framing small cities and villages, but also landscapes (and their contradictions, where and when existing) and their inhabitants.

stARTup Art Fair Los Angeles 2020: Call for Artists

stARTup Art Fair Los Angeles is a contemporary art fair for independent artists. Participating artists will have a fantastic opportunity to expose new work to a myriad of collectors, curators, gallery owners, art consultants, and writers who will be coming to the city for a weekend of contemporary art. Those selected from the open application process will each take over a hotel room for the course of three days to present a solo show of their work.

8th Artist Spotlight Solo Art Competition

Fusion Art is now accepting entries for the 8th Artist Spotlight Solo Art Competition to highlight individual artists who have an overall body of work to showcase. From this competition Fusion Art will select up to 12 winning artists - four traditional artists, four digital & photography artists and four 3-dimensional artists (if the gallery has received 3-dimensional entries) for individual month-long solo art exhibitions on the Fusion Art website.

FINE PRINT: The Artist Spotlight competition is an open competition. There is no theme and any subject matter and any media are acceptable. Both 2D and 3D artists from around the world are encouraged to submit their best work for consideration. Learn more here.

 

Patterns and Shadows 2019

The New York Center for Photographic Art (NYC4PA) invites photographers worldwide to submit images using any photographic process (print, image transfer, emulsion transfer, encaustic, black and white, color etc.) for the theme “Patterns and Shadows.”

DATES: Spring 2020

LOCATION: New York, NY

DEADLINE: November 10, 2019  

FINE PRINT: There will be 10 cash prizewinners, 15 Juror Selections and 20 Honorable Mentions. The entry fee is $35 for the first three images. Additional images may be submitted for $10 each. Learn more here.

 

Portals

A juried exhibition hosted by The SE Center for Photography with the theme Portals: a door or gate, an entry or opening, maybe a tunnel, a passage or connection between places, time, or dimensions.

“Shades of Purple” Online Juried Painting Competition

An online competition hosted by Camelback Gallery for artwork that has any shade of purple as a prominent color. Artwork must be a painting using any of the following media: Oil, Acrylic, Pastels, Watercolor and/or Mixed Media.

DEADLINE: November 10, 2019 

FINE PRINT: All artists 18 years and older.  Do not send images of your artwork which have been framed or contain watermarks, each piece must be original, professional photographed and completed in the last 3 years. Learn more here.

 

31 Women Artists Exhibition

Sedona Arts Center is seeking contemporary women artists representing work that has in some way been influenced by the surrealist movement. The scope of the exhibition will be very inclusive. Surrealist influence appears in abstract expressionism, process art, conceptual art, and various forms of magical realism and visionary art as well as collage, sculpture, assemblage, and painting that relies on evocative juxtaposition of various imagery.

FINE PRINT: 25 contemporary women artists will be selected for inclusion in the exhibition based on an application including resume materials and 5 images of current work. 2-D, 3-D, and mixed media work of all kinds will be considered.  Work must be original and contemporary (created within the last three years). 2020 – 2022 Gallery Without Walls

The Arts Council of Lake Oswego is pleased to invite submissions of up to three works of art for outdoor public display in Lake Oswego’s nationally recognized, award-winning outdoor Gallery Without Walls exhibit. In its twentieth year, this program’s mission is to integrate art into the daily lives of local residents and visitors to the community by presenting works from regional, national, and international artists that resonate with people of diverse backgrounds.

FINE PRINT: Up to fifteen artists will be chosen by the Selection Committee to display in Lake Oswego. Selected artists will be awarded an honorarium of $1000. Open Call for Solo Exhibition

Target Gallery invites artists to apply for an open call for proposals for a solo exhibition for the summer of 2020. The individual or group associated with the chosen proposal will receive an exhibition at Target Gallery. The artist(s) will also receive a $3000 stipend.

Halcyon

Halcyon will be an open-themed, contemporary and fine art exhibition at The Continental Lofts Art Gallery hosted by Envision Arts. Accepting all contemporary and fine art submissions. Submissions are open internationally.

9th Annual “Nature” Online Art Competition

The gallery invites all 2D and 3D artists (including photography and digital arts) from around the world to make online submissions for possible inclusion in the Gallery’s online group art exhibition. The “Nature” theme will be the artist’s interpretation and depiction of nature art. Nature subjects will include geographical subjects, landscapes, natural objects, wildlife and natural environments.

Open Call to Visual Artists

The Ormond Memorial Art Museum is accepting submissions from artists in a variety of styles and media for exhibitions in late 2020 and 2021. This call is open to any media including but not limited to traditional drawing, glass, printmaking, digital/new media, photography, sculpture, painting, installation, etc.

LES Studio Program Residency

Based in Lower Manhattan and supported by public funds, the LES Studio Program provides free three and six-month residencies to under-represented, emerging and mid-career artists. Artists working across all disciplines are encouraged to apply for fully-funded shared studio space in the historic Clemente Soto Vélez Cultural and Educational Center in the heart of the Lower East Side.

DATES: March 15 – September 14, 2020 (6 months), March 15 – June 14, 2020 (3 months), and June 15 – September 14, 2020 (3 months)

LOCATION: New York, NY

FINE PRINT: The residency offers 24-hour access to a furnished studio with WiFi, the opportunity to present work to curators and critics through AAI-organized studio visits, a curated exhibition, exposure to a broad general audience during bi-annual Open Studios, and monthly stipends (awarded to New York State residents only). Zaratan AIR | Residency Program

Driven by the desire to intensify and exchange knowledge with artists through creative and productive practices, in 2015 Zaratan announced the promotion of an international art residency. Our goal is to mix experienced with emerging artists and give them the possibility to bring their work in an international context through exchange and collaboration within the local network.

FINE PRINT: Once a year Zaratan offers a 4 weeks residency grant, which cover the studio and accommodation fees for one artist selected through the applications process. Sustainable Studio Practice

This residency has been established as a safe space where you can develop a project focusing on the topic of sustainability within your artistic practice. It doesn’t have to be built around the production of art – quite the opposite: we are looking for art thinking projects that provide a new approach to studio practice in times of climate crisis.

DATES: 1st of March – 31st of May 2020 – 90 days; 1st of July – 31st of September 2020 – 90 days; or 1st of October – 31st of November 2020 – 60 days

LOCATION: Prague, Czech Republic

FINE PRINT: What most interests us is sustainability as method, not as a subject. Our overall goal is to prepare a manual for sustainable studio practice which we can use in the future. To submit, send a short description of the project you’d like to work on, your portfolio – presenting up to 5 projects related to the subject of the open call, and information about when you’d prefer to come.
