“Below the Surface” Juried Exhibition

What: What lies below the surface? Is it visible or hidden, more than just a cursory glance? This exhibit will explore ways that artists are interpreting the physical layering of material versus the metaphorical strata of meaning. Show us how—from the simplest drawing to the most complex sculpture—art has the power to invoke something more than what meets the eye.

Alaska Watercolor Society 44th Annual Juried Exhibition

What: An annual juried watercolor exhibition sponsored by The Alaska Watercolor Society, a not-for-profit organization to help promote the knowledge and understanding of professional watercolor painting in Alaska.

Who: All artists 18 years and older living in the United States

Application Deadline: June 1

Exhibition Dates: August 3 – August 30, 2018

Opening Reception: August 3, 5-8 PM

Fee: $30

2018 Shapes of Influence Biennial Ceramics Exhibition

What: A juried exhibition to showcase the best in contemporary ceramics hosted by Springfield Arts Association.

RiverArtes III: A Showcase of Public Art

What: RiverArtes III is a revolving biennial exhibition of public art by sculptors of international, national and regional prominence designed to celebrate the vitality of Owensboro, Kentucky.

Exhibition Dates: July 28 - October 21, 2018

Location: Owensboro, KY

Fine Print: Selections for installations will be made by June 18, and lease agreements signed with artists. Two-year lease periods will begin when installations are finalized. House of Wax: Juried Encaustic Competition

What: Northville Art House is pleased to announce an open juried call for encaustic, hot wax and/or cold wax artwork.

Brand 46 Annual National Juried Exhibition of Works on Paper

What: A juried exhibition, presented by The Brand Library & Art Center, of any artwork on or of paper, including collages, drawings, paintings, photography, prints, and 3-dimensional works. Paper must be a visible component of the artwork.

What: BERLIN BLUE art gallery - located in the heart of Berlin - are looking for 3-5 distinct artistic positions to present in a 3-weeks long exhibition at their gallery.

Open Spaces Contemporary Art Residency

What: Open Spaces is a residency program based in a former school building in the Swiss Alpine village of Feutersoey, nestled high up in a remote valley. The Open Spaces Program includes studio space at no cost and accommodation at no cost.

Who: Professional artists who are not yet established and who have at least 5 years of practice, based in cities and are looking for an experience in the countryside.

Residency Dates: September 1 - November 30, 2018

Location: Feutersoey, Switzerland

Artadia Chicago Award

What: A $10,000 award for a selected artist in Chicago. Awards are based on merit. The award money can be used however the artist sees fit.

Who: All visual artists living and working in the current award city of Chicago

Art & Social Practice Residency 2018-2019

What: Resident artists participate in a 9-month residency where each artist is assigned to a public library where they teach, mentor youth, and create new work in the library’s community room.

Who: Socially-minded artists

Application Deadline: June 1

Residency Dates: September 2018 - June 2019

Location: Pittsburgh, NYC, Miami, and Detroit

Fine Print: The artists teach the students three classes per week using a curriculum of their design. 3 hours are allocated to teaching and 10-15 hours may be spent making artwork per week. ProjectArt maintains a 15:1 resident student ratio with 15 students enrolled in each one-hour class so each resident is responsible for a total of 45 youth per library. Learn more here.


 

NPAF Dry Tortugas National Park September 2019 Residency with $2000 Stipend

What: National Parks Arts Foundation is offering a residency for two at Dry Tortugas National Park, a beautiful, remote Florida islet complete with it’s own lighthouse. The residency includes a $2000 stipend.

Plates, Platters and Nothing Else Matters 2018- National Juried Competition

What: The Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts and Sciences is hosting a national juried competition of ceramic works.

Who: Ceramic artists 18 years and older, residing in the USA

RedLine Artist-In-Residence 2018 Call for Entry

What: RedLine, a nonprofit contemporary art center that fosters education and engagement between artists and communities, is offering two-year residencies for 15-18 emerging, contemporary artists. In addition to mentorship, career development, and exposure, artists receive fully subsidized studio spaces, which provides financial flexibility and frees artists to explore and experiment without commercial constraints.

What: An exhibition that will fill Highpoint's 1,000+ square feet of gallery space with select impressions of contemporary printmaking.

Field Projects Open Call Summer 2018

What: Field Projects wants emerging and mid-career artists to submit their work for consideration in our June-July 2018 events. The Field Projects Panel (4-5 curators) will be considering the submissions for future solo exhibitions, group exhibitions, 2 person exhibitions, art fairs, pop-up shows, off-site exhibitions and studio visit programs.

Axis Gallery 13th National Juried Exhibition

What: A juried exhibition hosted by Axis Gallery, an artist-run space that has been in operation for over 30 years.

Indoor Mural Commission for The Kroger Co.

What: On behalf of The Kroger Company, the Houston Arts Alliance seeks a local artist to create a large-scale indoor mural displayed within a Kroger store. The objective is to create a space that encourages community gathering and celebrates the spirit of the neighborhood.

Who: All artists in the Greater Houston area. Priority is given to artists with a connection to the community in which the store resides.

Application Deadline: June 3

Location: Sugar Land, TX

Fine Print: Three (3) finalists will be chosen to submit a mural proposal based on an assessment of their work examples and their connection to the community. All finalists will receive a $300 stipend for submitting a proposal. Payment to the selected Artist is $9,000. Learn more here.


 

21st International Open

What: A juried exhibition hosted for female artists by Woman Made Gallery. All themes, styles, and media will be considered. Artwork that explores or challenges conceptual and material boundaries is encouraged.

Who: Female artists worldwide

Onishi Project’s Summer Group Show III

What: A group exhibition presented by Onishi Project, art management division through Onishi Gallery since 2012 that collaborates with cultural, educational and governmental organizations and art curators and critics around the globe to successfully execute group exhibitions with international emerging artists.

What: The 9th Annual Nature & Wildlife Exhibit explores nature in all of its beautiful forms, from plants and landscapes to the diversity of species inhabiting the oceans and great outdoors.

What: A juried art competition presented by ALA Gallery by the Lake

Figures and Faces 2018

What: For this month's group exhibition, Las Laguna Gallery is seeking works that focus on the human face or figure. We are looking for pieces that examine the human face and figure and convey the emotions and experiences of being human. Works submitted may be representational or abstract in nature.

Art Prize 10

What: ArtPrize is an open, independently organized international art competition and is one of the most attended public art competitions in the world. Art is exhibited throughout downtown Grand Rapids—museums, bars, public parks, restaurants, hotels, etc. Artists and venues register for the competition then find each other through an online connections process in late spring.

Who: Artists working in any medium, from anywhere in the world

Fresh! Summer 2018 “Order and Chaos: the World of the Enlightenment?”

What: Artists have always played a role in voicing how the world is seen; they are critics dissecting the concepts aesthetics, ideals of beauty, rationalism, tolerance and liberty. This year is FRESH! Summer show by JanKossen Contemporary invites artists to reinterpret the realities around us.

2018 Hawaii Volcanoes National Park (September) Summer Residency with $2000 Stipend

What: National Parks Arts Foundation is now offering four summer residencies inspired by Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park and the paradise island of Hawai'i. This is a unique dramatic environment for all media to flourish and to inspire new breakthroughs in process and result. This NPAF residency includes a $2000 stipend, a large house as accommodation, studio space, a manta ray swim experience, and more.

Residency Dates: September 4 - September 28, 2018

Location: The Big Island, Hawaii

Fee: $55 application fee for individuals, $110 for couples, or $150 for an art collective

Cutting Edge: Nontraditional Glass Exhibition

What: A juried exhibition accepting all forms and methods of hot or cold glass, including blown, cast, cut, lampworked, laminated, cold fused, sculpted, and slumped, hosted by Arts Benecia.

What: 4Culture seeks to purchase original, unframed two-dimensional artworks, specifically photographs and works on paper (drawings, paintings, prints, mixed media, etc.), for the King County Public Art Collection.

Who: Professional studio artists residing in the United States working in original, high-quality photographs and works on paper

Delivery, Framing and Accession: August and September 2018

Location: Seattle, WA

Fine Print: Artworks that contain graphic depictions of violence, sexually explicit imagery or nudity, and religious references are extremely difficult to display and will not be accepted. Submitted work may not be over 48 inches in height or width, under 14 inches in height or width, or more than 3 inches deep (unframed). Learn more here.

 

City of Seattle: Fremont Ship Canal Public Art Project

What: The Seattle Office of Arts & Culture, in partnership with Seattle Public Utilities will commission one artist/artist team to design, fabricate and install a two-part integrated, outdoor sculptural artwork.

Who: Public artists residing in the United States

Application Deadline: June 12

Location: Seattle, WA

Fine Print: The selected artist will receive a commission of $163,488 (plus Washington State Sales/Use Tax of $16,512.00) equaling $180,000.00 to design, fabricate and install the artwork. Banff Artist in Residence Late Fall 2018

What: The Banff Artist in Residence in Visual + Digital Arts provides time and space for artists, curators, and arts professionals to create, research, experiment, and cultivate new directions in their work. In addition to a private studio space and shared facility use, artists are surrounded by a community of artistic peers and have the opportunity to attend inspiring talks and performances by world-renowned visiting artists, all within Banff Centre’s spectacular mountain setting.

What: CRUSH WALLS has grown to become Colorado’s largest urban art event. Showcasing local and international talent, it has been bringing art out of the galleries and into the streets from its very inception, reaching a pinnacle of 80+ public art murals last year.

What: The City of Odessa and Odessa Arts are collaborating to select artwork by local artists to be displayed in the Community Art Gallery, located on the fifth floor of City Hall in Odessa.

27th Annual International Society of Experimental Artists

What: The International Society of Experimental Artists (ISEA) wants to give ALL mediums a venue to have work shown in an annual juried exhibition within the United States or abroad.

What: This international small works exhibition invites artists to submit works 10 inches by 10 inches by 10 inches or smaller.

31st National Juried Exhibition

What: The South Cobb Arts Alliance (SCAA) is hosting an exhibition with the theme of “Sanctuary”. Sanctuary can mean many things to different people. In this exhibition they intend to explore the meaning and perception of Sanctuary to the individual artist, either in the literal sense or from a deeper, more metaphorical perspective.

Who: Open to all residents of the USA, age 18 or older

What: This exhibition seeks to show art that has cast away the color system and focuses on the visual power of black and white; reflecting the innovative and contemporary in painting, photography, drawing, printmaking, mixed media and sculpture.

What: A juried exhibition of ceramic sculpture, ceramic vessel forms, and installation work hosted by the University of Southern Mississippi Museum of Art and Department of Art and Design.

Fulton County Arts & Culture Public Art Program - Fine Art Acquisition Program-2018 Call for Artists

What: FCAC seeks to acquire existing unframed artworks and freestanding sculptures by professional Georgia-based artists that will be displayed in Atlanta-Fulton Public Library branches.

Who: Georgia-based visual artists over 18 years of age

2018 California Open Juried Exhibition

What: A national juried exhibition hosted by TAG Gallery celebrating contemporary and modern art, including Computer Art, Drawing, Mixed Media, Painting, Printmaking, Photography, Sculpture, and Video work.

Exhibition Dates: August 8 – 25, 2018

What: A juried photography exhibition that looks at the materiality of film by exploring the nature of experimental photography. Navasota Artist in Residency Fall 2018

What: An residency that gives artists the opportunity to live and work in the historic Horlock Home in Navasota, Texas, which includes living and studio space for each of the three participating artists as well as a retail gallery space. The term of each residency is roughly six months.

Residency Dates: August 16, 2018 - February 10, 2019

Fine Print: The City of Navasota will provide amenities including internet, cable, electricity, retail space and live/work space free of charge to selected artists with the purpose of providing artists the opportunity to create and sell their work. Lanesboro Arts’ Artist Residency

What: Lanesboro Arts invites emerging artists to apply to the place-based Lanesboro Artist Residency Program, generously supported by the Jerome Foundation.

Who: Emerging artists of any discipline. Artists must be residents of Minnesota or one of the five boroughs of New York City to be eligible to apply.

Application Deadline: June 29

Residency Dates: 2 or 4 week residencies can be scheduled any time in 2019 except for May, June, or July. Residencies scheduled in April or August are preferred.

Fine Print: Lanesboro Arts’ goal is to allow artist access to local resources needed for conceptualizing place-based work. Lanesboro Arts recognizes “place-based work” as work that is specifically inspired by and designed for the place in which the work takes place; it can be a new project or an interpretation of the artist’s current work tailored to engage the community of Lanesboro. Tokyo-Based Artist Residency

What: Youkobo Art Space, a privately managed and operated art institution, are accepting applications for the Artists-in-Residence (AIR) program. Residencies will be calculated in one-month periods and must be a minimum of one month, up to a maximum of 12 months.

Application Deadline: June 30

Residency Dates: February 1, 2019 - March 31, 2020

Location: Tokyo, Japan

Fee: 130,000-170,000 yen, plus cost of 30,000 yen/month for utilities

Fine Print: All artists accepted onto the residency program will be expected to confirm the dates of their residency, sign a contract, and pay a deposit of 40,000 yen within one month of their selection. Call for Public Art on STEAM

What: The University of West Florida invites artists to submit proposals to be considered for the commission of permanent sculptures to be installed on the campus.

Fine Print: It is anticipated that individual awards will range from $75,000 to $100,000.
