Voice x Women Rise Residency

We’re building a residency program to change the ratio — dedicated to supporting women from underrepresented and marginalized communities.

Here’s what we know:

Top 18 museums in the US have collections that are 87% male & 85% white (Nmwa.org).
Art by women sells for 50% less than men’s (SSRN paper).
Women make up 16% of the NFT art market and 5% of NFT sales.

These are the current statistics and we're here to change it. As a Resident, you will transform a body of work that you’ve wanted to make–or have already made–into an NFT collection. The collections will cover themes that connect our creators to the world’s most pertinent topics. We are here to guide you through the process, all the way from onboarding through building and launching a powerful NFT project.

The Figure

The figure has been, from humankind’s earliest attempts at mark-making to the present day, a central occupation of art. The figure commands our attention because it is something most of us see every day, whether looking at ourselves or others, but is at the same time deeply strange, beautiful, and intriguing. Our figures are an index of time and mark our movement through space. As shown by its role in art history, the capturing of the figure admits an almost infinite variety of methods, styles and movements; it can be representational or abstract, suggested by a pencil-stroke or carved in stone.

Sequential Synergy: The Art of Comics

440 Gallery announces a Call for Artists for the 2022 Annual Theme Show Sequential Synergy: The Art of Comics. Artwork selected for exhibition for the show will be on display at our Brooklyn gallery space July 9 – July 29, 2022. Artists at all levels of professionalism and experience are invited to submit work in all mediums.

Sequential Synergy: The Art of Comics celebrates the diverse ways comics artists, aka cartoonists, utilize the real estate of the blank page. For over a century, artists have been creating comics to tell stories about caped crusaders, historical figures, themselves or something else entirely. Sequential Synergy will explore the forms that comics can be and how they affect us; we will discover that cartoonists are not merely visual artists, but are writers, designers, directors, and most of all, acute observers of human behavior.

Acceptable submissions include, but are not limited to the following types of images: cover art, splash pages, full pages of sequential art. The submitted images may be excerpted from a larger work.

Art Ramble 2022 "In the Balance"

The Art Ramble is a temporary outdoor public art installation sited around the Fairyland Pond in the Hapgood Wright Town Forest, in collaboration with the Concord Natural Resources Division.

The Call: When we walk in the woods, we seek the restorative energy of the forest. The knowledge that the forest can regenerate itself over time, even after extreme weather events, gives us hope. Subterraneum networks of mycorrhizal fungi provide a resource distribution system for plants and trees that helps forests withstand drought conditions. By absorbing Co2 and water, forests keep oxygen and precipitation cycles in balance and protect the planet from climate change. But the acceleration of climate change has reached a point of overpowering and upsetting the carefully balanced ecosystems of our surviving forests, producing greater frequency and intensity of forest disturbances such as insect outbreaks, invasive species, wildfires, and storms. Lack of accumulated snow and ice reduces the spring rush from snowmelt that some plants and animals need to survive. Yet too much rush from rainstorms can deplete the soil of nutrients that support regrowth, causing erosion. Climate change and increased carbon emissions are producing migration patterns not only of people but of trees that are no longer able to grow in harsh conditions. The ground beneath our feet is literally slipping away.

Livable Buckhead is excited to announce the commencement of our Shelter to Sculpture Program. Livable Buckhead, through a sustainability-focused partnership with MARTA (Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority), is leading an effort to repurpose outdated bus shelters as large-scale, outdoor sculptures. This public art program is for the creation of a public “art walk,” that will serve to spotlight and enhance the surrounding ecology of PATH400, Buckhead’s premier multi-use trail and bolster the community’s arts scene. Materials from the donated bus shelters are in excellent condition and had minimal exposure to the elements, proving to be a great material source for this public sculpture program.

Signaling infinite possibilities, and that will lead to various non-verbal experiences and fill the void of our lives with the memories and emotions they carry with them.
