Pressing Matter 2018

What: A juried exhibition of contemporary printmaking presented by San Luis Obispo Museum of Art

Who: Open to all artists residing in the United States

Onishi Project’s Summer Group Show I

What: A group exhibition presented by Onishi Project, art management division through Onishi Gallery since 2012 that collaborates with cultural, educational and governmental organizations and art curators and critics around the globe to successfully execute group exhibitions with international emerging artists.

Who: All artists worldwide

Open Call: POWER

What: The theme for the California Museum of Art Thousand Oaks’ 2nd Annual International Juried Art Open Call is POWER. Artists should approach this theme in a critical way in relation to their own perspective on what's powerful today (social, political, philosophical...).

What: A juried competition for two-dimensional artworks hosted by Cape Fear Studios.

Who: All artists, 18 or older, in the United States working in 2-D painting and drawing media, hand pulled prints, and collage

Viridian Artists’ 29th Annual International Juried Exhibition

What: Viridian Artists presents an exhibition that will consist of two-dimensional and three- dimensional art works in all media.

What: Locust Grove, the Samuel F.B. Morse Estate is partnering with Barrett Art Center to announce four Solo Show opportunities in 2019.

What: A competition for international artists sharing their vision of ceramic art

4 Square: Anniversary Show

What: Celebrate Art on 30th’s 4th anniversary and enter their upcoming show "Four Square." Any work with square dimensions is eligible—any subject matter, any style.

Shenandoah National Park Artist-in-Residence Program

What: This residency program offers professional artists an opportunity to live and work in this exceptional environment for three weeks. The works completed during the program will serve, through the creativity of the selected artists, to deepen the understanding and appreciation of Shenandoah National Park.

Who: Professional artists including writers, composers, craftsmen, painters, photographers, storytellers, and videographers

Solo Art Exhibition Opportunity

What: Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery announces their ninth “Solo Art Series” Online Art Competition. This competition will result in an award of 4 monthly solo art exhibitions and the next 8 juried artists will be featured in the gallery’s Artist Showcase Section.

What: "Works on Paper" 2018 is the 20th Annual National Juried Competition and Exhibition at the Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts & Sciences.

Who: Artists 18 years and older, residing in the continental USA

What: An exhibition hosted by RedLine, a non-profit contemporary art center, to be held in RedLine’s Project Space.

What: The San Diego Watercolor Society’s International Exhibition is recognized globally for the highest standard of excellence in watermedia art.

Who: Open to all watermedia artists, ages 18 and older

Exhibition Dates: September 30 - October 30, 2018

Opening Reception: September 29

“Everything We Do is Music” Juried Exhibition

What: Does your work exude rhythm, melody, lyrics, harmony or dissonance from a social, political or musical perspective? Does it elicit a reaction in sounds, words or movement?  Does it dance or sway? Does it move the viewer like a song or symphony? Does it sing? Gallery 114 invites 2D and 3D artists to respond to the theme.

What: The Painting Center, an artist-run gallery in Chelsea, announces a call for entries to its annual juried summer exhibition JuxtaPositions. We invite all artists to submit work that explores visual elements being placed close together with contrasting effect.

Focus Under Forty Exhibition

What: The Rowayton Arts Center’s Focus Under Forty exhibit, exclusively for artists ages 16-39, puts the spotlight on artists you should get to know. This show enables regional young talent to boldly express themselves without restrictions on theme or media.

Who: Artists ages 16 to 39 years old, all media and themes accepted.

2018 Plein Air Plus - National Juried Competition

What: Juror Valerie Craig will pick 35 artists to participate in the Paint Out on Long Beach Island over a two month period, allowing artists to visit and paint the scenic, seashore environment of New Jersey on their own schedule. The accepted artists will then exhibit the paintings created in the LBI Paint Out in the "Island Life" exhibition.

Who: Plein air artists 18 years and older in the continental U.S.

Paint Out Dates: Any time between July 1 - August 31, 2018

DSA Open Call: 3 Solo Spots

What: Three artists will be selected for the Dayton Society of Artists solo exhibition, where each artist will be assigned one of the DSA three gallery rooms.

Pride and Prejudice: Gender Realities in the 21st Century

What: A juried exhibition at ARC Gallery which will open the same month as the Pride Parade in Chicago. They are looking for artists’ work that reacts to the pride inherent in belonging to any gender (or not), as well as work that explores the pain, struggle or prejudice that can result from embracing one’s identity.

Who: Artists worldwide of all genders, ages, and working in all media

Residencies in Key West

What: The Studios of Key West is currently accepting applications for residencies falling between October 2018 and August 2019, designed to encourage creative, intellectual and personal growth. The program grants nearly 35 artists each year the time and space to imagine new artistic work, engage in valuable dialogue and explore island connections.

Who: Emerging and established artists and writers

Application Deadline: May 15

Residency Dates: Residencies are almost a full month, and run from the 16th of the month through the 14th of the next, between October 2018 and August 2019

Location: Key West, FL

Fee: $40

Fine Print: There is no fee for the residency once an artist has been accepted into the program. However, artists are responsible for their travel to Key West, as well as living expenses and incidentals. Learn more here.

La Maison Neuve Residency: France

What: Annex:art is pleased to offer its annual La Maison Neuve Artist Residency. This residency program, which is being offered in cooperation with Sol 66, is located in the beautiful Ardèche region of south-central France - about 75 miles from Lyon, France.

Who: Open to creative individuals working in any genre, including visual art, music and literature. International artists must be 21 years old to participate and eligible to travel to and stay in France for the period of his/her residency. Priority is given to artists from outside of France.

Application Deadline: May 15

Residency Availability: Two, three, and four week residencies from June 1 - 30 (annually)

Location: France

Fee: The cost of a self-funded residency is $375/week and includes a private room and shared bath with use of the kitchen and other common area facilities. Food and beverages are extra. Monthly rates are available for longer term residencies.

Fine Print: The program seeks applications from artists who have a specific purpose or project to be completed during the residency and whose participation in an international program will benefit his/her current career goals and funding opportunities. Learn more here.

 

CERF+ Get Ready Grants

What: CERF+’s Get Ready Grants award up to $500 to individual artists working in craft disciplines to conduct activities that will help safeguard their studios, protect their careers and prepare for emergencies.

Who: Practicing artists (who are legal U.S. residents) with an ongoing history of producing a body of work in a craft discipline.

Application Deadline: May 15

Grant Announcement: June 30, 2018

Fine Print: Craft is the creation of original objects through the skillful manipulation of materials such as clay, fiber, metal, wood, glass, concrete, plastic, synthetic fibers, recycled materials and other non-traditional materials. OpenART Biennale 2019

What: OpenART is a public art biennial and takes place in Örebro, Sweden. During twelve summer weeks contemporary art from all over the world is showcased in the public space.

Who: All professional artists. They see possibilities for a wide range of art mediums and techniques but are particularly looking for artworks for the open space and in particular new ideas on what public art can be.

Application Deadline: May 15

Exhibition Dates: Summer 2019, exact dates TBA

Location: Örebro, Sweden

Fee: 150 SEK (Around $18)

Charlotte Street Foundation Studio Residency 2018-19

What: Charlotte Street Foundation is seeking applications for its year-long Studio Residency Program. Entering its fifteenth year, the Studio Residency Program provides free studio and rehearsal spaces to exceptional young, emerging, and/or already accomplished artists in need of workspace in which to create and to develop their creative processes, professional practices, and peer networks.

Who: Visual artists working in all media

Residency Dates: September 2018 - September 2019

Location: Kansas City, MO

St. Tammany Art Association 53rd Juried Exhibition

What: An annual competition of contemporary art, the St. Tammany Art Association’s summer show is one of the most diverse in the Southeast.

Who: Artists ages 18 and up across the United States

Fee: $35 for up to 3 works

Pushing Paper: Realizing the Potential of the Medium

What: A juried exhibition by Barrett Art Center seeking work that explores and manipulates the materiality of paper, as well as works on paper, including watercolor, oil, photography, prints, digital work, and drawings.

What: As they gear up for another exciting summer of art in the Hamptons, the Lucille Khornak Gallery is looking for artwork that draws from the inspiration of an incredible summer, powerful moments of global history, and the freedom of independence.

Who: Open to all artists including full time students. All media accepted including, sculpture.

What: A juried show with the theme of “Flowers & Gardens.”  Artists may interpret the show title in any way, and in any medium appropriate for a family-friendly art gallery. Style may be realistic or abstracted realism. The setting may be still life or garden.

2018 LA Artcore 4th Annual Juried Exhibition

What: The July 2018 exhibit will kick off the celebration of LA Artcore’s 39 years of supporting contemporary art and developing the careers of visual artists of diverse cultural backgrounds. There is no theme: any subject matter is eligible.

Who: All emerging and professional artists over the age of 18, residing in North America, working in all media except freestanding sculpture

What: For seven years, Center Forward has featured the best images in contemporary photography and photo-based work. All types of photographic processes and subjects are eligible for selection and exhibition.

What: RMNW attracts entrants and jurors from throughout the United States, and is regarded as one of the top watermedia exhibitions in the country.

Integrity: Arts & Culture Association Grants

What: Integrity: Arts & Culture (IACA) sponsors mini-grants for artists focusing on creative endeavors in the literary, performing, and visual arts. Grants are intended to assist with such things as art supplies, recording studio time, exhibits, performances, project-related expenses, etc.

Who: Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or a permanent legal resident, 18 years of age or older. High school or college undergraduate students may not apply. Graduate students may apply, but they do not fund tuition or student projects.

Application Deadline: May 23

Amount: Mini-Grants generally average $250

Fine Print: Within 14 days of the close of the project, they require 1-2 paragraphs describing how their support benefited you. Learn more here.

 

Next on the M.A.P. Artist Residency

What: NEXT Gallery seeks artists to apply for upcoming residency and exhibition opportunity. Accepted applicants will be housed on a mountain property outside of Denver, Colorado with access to a potter's wheel, kild, woodshop, studio space, sewing machines, and 43 acres of wilderness environment.

Who: Artists practicing in all mediums

The Printed Image 7

What: “The Printed Image” is a juried exhibition that supports national artists working in hand-pulled print media, and offers art lovers an opportunity to view the latest trends in printmaking.

Who: Artists 18 years of age or older, currently residing in the United States, working in any hand-pulled print technique, including intaglio, relief, serigraph, lithograph, photogravure, collagraph, monoprint and monotype, and broadsides.

What: An exhibition hosted by BWAC Gallery focusing on the theme of color.

What: Each year up to 12 artists are selected for residencies in the Pottery and/or Foundry areas of the Kohler Arts Center. No experience with clay or cast metal is required, just an interest in pursuing a new body of work and being open to new ideas. Artists-in-residence receive 24-hour access to studio space, materials, use of equipment, technical assistance, photographic services, housing, round-trip transportation, and a modest weekly stipend.

ROOSTERGNN Artist Residency | Havana & Trinidad, Cuba

What: ROOSTERGNN is accepting applications for its Artist Residency program in two of Cuba’s UNESCO World Heritage cities: one week in the capital, Havana, and one week in the colonial town of Trinidad.

Who: Visual artists (and other creatives) of all disciplines, nationalities and languages, though communications are conducted exclusively in English or Spanish.
