Winter can be long in Vermont. When the sun finally stays out into the evening, and the temperatures start to rise, the fields of Vermont start to show themselves again. Slowly. That transition is a really popular subject to paint. Instead of endless shades of snow the warm grasses expand the palette and ad bright warm tones to the cool winter shadows. Patterns under the snow on the fields get accentuated as they are partially reviewed.
This view, in Monkton Vermont, shows beautifully how cool and warm create a nice dynamic for a painting. The blues in the shadows are almost to saturated to believe, and pairing them with the warm yellow/orange of the sunlit grasses makes the landscape really come alive.
It's just fun to paint.
