I really enjoy these small paintings. Sometimes a small painting can make a really big impression. I included a photo of this one framed because I think this is one of those paintings that feels bigger than it is. The frame completes this little work of art, giving it gravitas.
The view itself is along a new section of the rail trail in Jeffersonville Vermont with great views of Mount Mansfield. On this particular day the mountain was obscured by clouds, all morning, but the hide and seek gave the view a little mystery and brought the eye down to the waning color in the lower hills and fields.
Painting small can be tricky. Finding the right balance of detail and softness was the challenge.
