This impressionistic study was painted at the Barns at Chip Ridge in Abingdon, VA during the 2024 Abingdon Plein Air Festival. The venue had spectacular 360 degree views and didn't lack for inspiration.
I chose the little red barn for the focal point with the winding road that drew the eyes over to the right where the main house with the red roof was tucked into the trees. I loved how the reds contrasted with the mountains in the distance. I also loved the shadows on those mountains as the clouds floated by.
I started with a brunaille underpainting as usual and then made a pass of color before calling it finished for this type of painting.
