Painted during the 2024 Valdese Plein Air Fest at McGalliard Falls in Valdese, NC. Close to the entrance of the park I was drawn toward all the lovely trees that seem to be like a sanctuary. A safe place with a sign that said Every Birdie Welcome and amidst all the trees were many different colored birdhouses hung on the trees. Dozens and dozens of red, blue, grey and unpainted birdhouses were everywhere! I found one that had suddenly been struck with sunlight and I loved the contrast of the blue birdhouse next to that orangey glow of the tree bark that was illuminated by bounced light! It was fun to paint and I hope this piece finds a bird lover to place in their collection.
