This particular late summer afternoon in the Texas mountains quickly moved from the serenely cloudless blue we'd baked under all day to a churning cauldron of cumulonimbus that darkened the sky and teased of much needed rain. I took the hole in the clouds to be a good omen (it's a pilot thing) and recorded it with my trusty iPhone camera. Lightning flashed, thunder boomed and before I could count One One Thousand... precious raindrops veiled that hole in the sky and dampened all below, including me.
That sudden stirring of clouds inspired this painting. But even as I applied energetic strokes of cloudy colors, I imagined flying through that hole into blue sky.
