About the painting:
The Window is one of Big Bend’s most iconic sights, and we were lucky enough to stay just a short walk from its trails at the Chisos Lodge. Over the days we spent exploring the park, we returned to it again and again — in the soft light of morning, beneath the midday sun, at the glow of sunset, and even under a blanket of stars. Each time, it offered something new, and each time, it left us in awe.
When I chose to paint the Window, I captured it in daylight. That’s how I like my own windows at home: bright, open, and unobstructed. While the fiery drama of sunset and the mystery of a starry night are unforgettable, I wanted to honour the formations themselves — strong, steady, and timeless.
To me, those rugged rocks are the very house that holds the Window. And despite their cracks and uneven edges, they make it possible for all of us to look through and glimpse the beauty beyond.
