Dreaming Patterns in Blue Space

- Kum Ja Lee
Oil painting on canvas
“Dreaming Patterns in Blue Space” engages the interplay of coded cultural motifs with patterns, symbols and letters that act as vessels of universal beauty and reveal the essence of existence. Informed by her Korean heritage and life in Eugene, Kum Ja explores the symbiotic relationship between temporal flow and spatial perception. This dialogue between past and present, embodied in translucent layers, expresses the poetics of continuity. Through subtle shifts in blue hues and traditional patterns, the work conjures nostalgic memories of engraved motifs from Kum Ja’s childhood that evoke a traditional Korean aesthetic submerged in the oceanic expanse of her imagination.
