This piece, which is from a group of four, was inspired by a medallion-like outgrowth on a tree and a moment of 'startled fascination'. This is how I describe the inception point for a new work – seeing something quite simple in a new light and being compelled, almost irresistibly, to work with it. The surface looked to me that day like two heads whispering or kissing. I distilled these down into a single shape to work with, playing with ‘nubbly’ texture and my favourite 'holo lilac' colour palette. This version keeps the woody feel with brown and yellow standing out on a lilac background. I was deeply excited by the chestnut brown that shone out deepening the 3D effect of the image.
