Eleventh in the 'Plant 1 Series: Abstract Line Cavendish' based on my pandemic journal sketches of a single plant in different stages of growth. Elegant and exuberant in equal measure, the original sketch and paper show through the stylised shapes placed above them in the layers. One of my favourite palettes, 'holo lilac’, gives the background and the mushroom brown works surprisingly well giving an earthy feel. This picture marked the beginning of stage two in the series, working on the next set of sketches and exploring themes of repetition in more depth and detail some 18 months later. The darker rectangles were the start also of an emerging interest in how the composition is held and framed (or not, in later pieces I have recently made that deal with ideas of entrapment and escape).
