Jovial

“Jovial” is loosely based on a portrait done by illustrator Ralph Steadman. When I made this piece, I was reading a book written by him on his relationship with Journalist and larger than life character Hunter S. Thompson. Steadman played a large role in introducing the world to the “Gonzo” journalism movement.
I did not base this character on any particular drawing of his, and I did not have the book open in front of me at the time. You could call this an impressionist sketch, done in the style of an illustrator I have really come to admire in the last couple of years.
This one is an ode to you Ralph, ya bastard.
“Out with the old, in with the new” - This is my first recorded drawing of the new year, setting the bar for the rest of the year of work ahead.
