Brandon "BiZY" Botten
Still Life Study by Brandon "BiZY" Botten Image: When you ask the unlearned about what art is, some images may immediately come to mind. A country house, a painting of an old couple, a fruit bowl or a pot of flowers. In this rendition of what still-life means to me, I go all in on a pot of flowers.
This painting is about taking the elements of a still-life painting, and making it my own. BiZY style. The background is testament to that statement.
This painting acts as a bridge connecting two phases. Finally settling back into Montreal, I had the time and freedom to create large scale paintings once again. This transition does not happen over night however, and many half-finished sketches of mine made their way into the background forming my all too familiar collage style.

The following is an aside I wrote down while in the midst of creating this piece:

“My little home studio is in a Solarium, meaning wall-to-wall windows. The lighting in here is brilliant. Due to this amazing exposure to sunlight all day, I share the space with many different and uniquely beautiful flora. I am marvelled all year by plants and how we interact with them in our lives. It is coming more apparent to me as time moves on how important a role they play in my own life.”
