The Wassaic Project seeks artists to participate in our Haunted Mill on Saturday, October 30, 2021. The Haunted Mill is our annual, one-day-only Halloween event in the hamlet of Wassaic. Artists are invited to transform the hamlet of Wassaic into a PG-13 haunted village. Throughout the event, the Wassaic Project will host family-friendly activities, trick-or-treating, and performances. All work must be considered PG-13. We want artists who are excited to be in Wassaic, participate in the Haunted Mill, and get weird.
The Wassaic Project welcomes artists who are self-directed and independent with their projects and vision. The Wassaic Project offers a modest honorarium to participating artists and artistic teams. Due to the uncertainty of COVID-19 and with the health of our staff, resident artists, and community as our top priority, we unfortunately cannot provide housing for participating artists this year. We offer the option for artists to camp for up to 3 days in the Luther Barn Field while creating their installations/performances. While camping, participating artists will have access to bathrooms and running water. Participating artists will also have access to our wood shop and print shop during the installation period.

How to apply:
We accept two types of proposals for the 2021 Haunted Mill: site-responsive outdoor installations and outdoor performances.
Site-responsive outdoor installations:
We envision a series of site-responsive outdoor installations functioning as unique trick-or-treating stations for kids. Please describe what your haunted hut will look like. Can it be fabricated prior to arriving in Wassaic and be assembled on site?
For performances:
Please explain how the performance piece will look or function. Is there a start and end time? Is it a durational performance? Interactive? If your work is time-based or has video documentation, you may also link to media from YouTube, Vimeo, or SoundCloud in your application.
