Mount Allison University invites Mi'kmaq basket makers and Mi'kmaq-led artistic teams to submit expressions of interest for a permanent public artwork celebrating Mi'kmaq basketry traditions at the RP Bell Library Centre for Innovation and Learning. The commission honours cultural knowledge, artistic excellence, and intergenerational teachings embodied in basket weaving. Selected artists receive a substantial all-inclusive budget to create a lasting work reflecting their own artistic vision, to be installed in one of the university's most significant public spaces. The initiative reflects the university's commitment to reconciliation and to recognizing Mi'kmaq artists as the appropriate knowledge holders for representing their traditions and contemporary expressions.
