QUALIFICATIONS: Required: BFA degree or equivalent. General familiarity with fibers processes, materials, chemicals and strong knowledge of weaving and/or surface design. Selection will consider the candidate’s potential artistic and professional growth within the residency, technical skills in studio and equipment maintenance, and potential for instructional support. Preferred: MFA or equivalent professional experience. Strong competency with fibers processes, materials, chemicals and strong knowledge of weaving and/or surface design, paper, and bookmaking.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The AIR will work 20 hours per week overseeing studio upkeep and providing instructional support. Studio duties include maintenance and repair of equipment such as looms, light table, fabric steamer, paper pulp beater, inventory and ordering of supplies, coordinating studio clean ups and supervising student workers. Instructional assistance includes occasional teaching duties during faculty absence, periodic class demonstrations, participation in class discussions, and/or mid-term and final group reviews. During the Craft Center’s summer workshop season the AIR manages studio operations, facilities and inventory and ordering of supplies under supervision of the program manager. The resident must produce a significant body of studio work while showing a high level of technical expertise and aesthetic merit. The AIR’s studio work will be reviewed periodically with the supervising faculty member. AIR may apply to teach workshops and academic classes in fibers or foundations, and conduct outreach demonstrations for additional compensation at applicable institutional pay scales.

SALARY & BENEFITS: A stipend of $3,240.00 annually is provided, which is paid in monthly increments of $270 by direct deposit. This is a part-time grant funded position; its continuation is contingent upon future funding. Residence in Craft Center housing is a required condition of employment. Single occupancy bedroom with private bath (whether married or single, cooking and lounge facilities are shared with other residents), individual studio space and 24 hour studio access are provided. A stipend of $3,240.00 annually is provided, which is paid in monthly increments of $270 via direct deposit. Benefits include the accumulation of annual and sick leave on a prorated basis equal to the percentage of employment, and thirteen (13) pro-rated University holidays. Other benefits include pro-rated retirement, optional 401k, and educational benefits. Also, opportunities for additional employment through workshop and outreach programs or adjunct teaching may be available.
