This was my first painting at this small size. For this first attempt at this size I wanted a scene with a good amount of detail. I was interested in the challenge of not only painting at this size, but of making a painting that really engaged the viewer up close. I chose this stream up in Hazen's Notch Vermont that I had considered painting as a large piece.
The painting took longer than I expected, over 4 separate sessions and didn't come alive until the very last addition of detail, adding highlights and deepening darker areas. It also challenged my eyesight. Working this small meant little tiny brushes and looking closely, which at times was difficult to do without going cross-eyed! I am quite pleased with the end result!
