One of the great things about New England, and Vermont in particular, is the number of moments when you are driving somewhere and just HAVE to pull over to take in the scenery. This painting, "Show Stopper", is one of those moments. Driving along the Winooski River in Middlesex Vermont I had a number of these moment one autumn day.
The challenge with autumn in Vermont is the overwhelm of color. It makes for great viewing but not always great painting since so much is going on to compete for attention. The river adds a nice settled element that keeps the overall painting from being overwhelmed by all the color. It is just great fun to paint.
