This is one of the rare paintings inspired from someplace outside of New England. In this particular case this sunset was from atop Clingman's Dome in the Great Smoky Mountains. I ran across my photos taken several years ago and tucked this one away as one I wanted to do a small painting of. Sunsets are a never ending source of inspiration however the colors can be challenging to capture and reproduce on canvas. Usually there is a lot of back and forth, adjusting and blending. In this particular case the painting nearly painted itself and it was one of the fastest pieces I have ever completed. The trick was to not try to fiddle with it thinking I could make it better :-)
