Driving the back roads of Vermont it is not unusual to find bridges, covered or otherwise, that are very narrow or a single lane. These bridges were no doubt built with only a single hay wagon or horse drawn carriage in mind. It's part of the mystique of Vermont that you can find signs of its heritage everywhere you go. This one-lane bridge in one of 4 bridges very close together in Northfield Vermont. You can see two others in this gallery recently painted going by the titles: Upper Cox Brook Covered Bridge, and Moments of Reflection.
