Mount Mansfield is painted often, usually from the Cambridge side and usually encompassing the entire mountain and foreground. It offers many views and opportunities to paint it from many angles. For this piece I was struck one day while driving through Underhill by just the ridgeline running up Sunset Ridge with a light coating of snow. The mood it edited was subdued but still showed the power of the mountain. I chose to leave only enough of the mountain to define it for those who are familiar with it, leaving to the imagination of those unfamiliar where this might be. It's the light and the sense of ascent up the ridge that captures my interest as I hope it captures yours.
